레일을 중심으로 한 철도의 기원 및 발전 과정( I )

  • 철도(鐵道)의 역사는 레일(rail)의 발달로부터 시작되었다고 한다. 철도(鐵道)는 그 발상지인 영국에서 railway(미국 : railroad, 프랑스 : Chemins do for, 독일 : Eisenbahn, 네덜란드 : Spoorweg, 이탈리아 : Ferrovia, 스페인 : Ferrocarril, 중국 : 鐵路)라고 불려지고 있다. 이것을 직역하면 "레일 길(rail 道)"로 된다. 이 단어가 나타내는 것처럼 간단하게 말하면, 철도란 레일의 위를 달리는 교통기관이며, 철도에 있어 레일은 가장 중요하고 불가결·기본적인 부재이다. 따라서, 레일은 철도의 심볼이라고 할 수 있다.   • 1899년 경인철도 합작회사에 의한 서울-제물포간 33.12km를 시작으로 출발한 한국 철도의 역사는 이제 일백년을 기록하게 되었다. 철도는 1960년까지 수송수단으로서 독점적인 지위를 점하였으나, 이후 도로위주의 수송정책으로 인해 철도의 위상이 저하되기 시작하였다. 1996년 철도의 수송분담율은 여객은 15.8%(인, 킬로 기준)이고, 화물은 11.4%(톤, 킬로 기준) 이 되어 1970년에 비해 여객은 16.5%, 회물은 46.2%나 감소하고 있다. 이제 철도산업의 경쟁력 제고를 위해 새로운 지평을 열어야 할 시기이다.(중략)

A Study on the Location Determinants for the Sales of Railroad Convenience Stores - With Focus on the Convenience Store "Storyway" - (철도역사 편의점 매출에 영향을 미치는 입지요인에 관한 연구 : 스토리웨이(Storyway)를 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to determine the location determinants that influence the sales of the "Storyway" convenience stores built at the country's railway stations. The preceding studies were about the convenience stores located in the residence-business areas or along the roadsides. This study, on the other hand, focused on the characteristics of the stations, based on a theory that is different from the existing theories. The targets of this study were the 301 "Storyway" convenience stores doing business in the 198 railway stations in the country, and the dummy parameter and hedonic-price model function were used for multiple regression analysis. For the study results, it was found that the number of people using the railway and the size of the store have a positive effect on the sales whereas the other brand competitors have a negative effect thereon. Second, the subway stations holding 89% of the total passengers in the country have unexpectedly no positive influence on the sales. Third, depending on the transfer, it was found that no transfer station had smaller sales than the transfer stations. Finally, as for the location of the stores in the station, the stores located on the platforms or passageways have a smaller turnover rate than the stores in the welcoming spaces and squares. This research result shows that when starting a convenience store business, the number of people using the railway, the size of the store, the transfer possibility, and the location of the store inside the station have to be considered under the circumstance of recession on the part of the convenience stores due to excessive competition.

  • 철도 선진국을 중심으로 신재생에너지의 철도 시스템 적용이 가속화 되고 있고, 국내에서도 철도 시스템에 신재생에너지를 적용하려는 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 이미 상당수의 신규 역사가 BIPV(building integrated photovoltaic) 시스템을 적용하고 있고, 단순히 유휴지를 이용한 풍력 발전 시스템을 넘어서 차량의 주행풍을 이용하거나 차량 외부에 풍력 발전기를 설치하는 등의 다양한 시도들이 이루어지고 있다. 수소 에너지를 연료로 하는 연로전지의 경우 기존 전기철도의 대체 연료로서 주목을 받으며 많은 연구가 이루어졌고 현재는 시험 운전 단계에 이르러 있다. 지열의 경우에는 벌써 오래전부터 승강장 또는 선로의 해빙장치의 에너지원으로 사용 되고 있다. 이밖에 수력 및 해양 에너지의 경우 전철전력의 청정 에너지 공급원으로 보고되고 있으며, 차량이나 역사 내에서 발생하는 운동 에너지를 수확하여 전기 에너지로 변환하는 에너지 하베스팅 기술이 새로운 신재생에너지 기술로서 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 에너지 문제와 온실가스 감축 의무 부담이 날로 가중되는 현 시점에서 신재생에너지의 전기철도 시스템 적용은 이 같은 문제를 해결할 수 있는 확실한 대안이 될 것이다. 본 논문에서는 국내외 전기철도 시스템의 신재생에너지 적용 기술과 적용 방안에 대해 고찰한다.

A Distributed Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) Access Scheme for Efficient WLAN Communication in Busy Train Stations (혼잡 철도 역사에서 효율적인 무선랜 통신을 위한 무선랜 분산 접속 방법)

  • Wireless local area network (WLAN) is a widely used wireless access method due to its easy usability and excellent performance. However, its performance degrades significantly as the number of users increases. In busy train stations, where the number of WLAN users are large and, more importantly the number of simultaneous packet transmission attempts is extremely large due to the time synchronization upon train arrival, the packet transmission delay problem is very severe and almost impossible for WLAN stations to initiate communication with WLAN networks. In this paper, a novel distributed WLAN access scheme for efficient WLAN communication in busy train stations is proposed. Using the proposed scheme, WLAN access delay can be significantly reduced under highly congested traffic environments. Therefore, a significant performance enhancement for the WLAN performance used in the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) can be achieved.

  • With the increase in discomfort of living by serious traffic noise pollution, the desire of relieving from discomfort is boosted up more than ever. For this reason, the researches on environmental impact assessmient and noise pollution control are highly required. This research was aimed to analyze the physical characteristics of noise caused by high-speed train in foreign countries by literature survey and field data. And with the attained results, the exterior noise level around Chon-An station, the first station planned for the high-speed train in this country, was estimated. The results of this study might be used as a tool for predicting the unavoidable noise, lessening the noise impact caused by the high-speed train, and preparing the noise prevention measures for the interior space and the exterior around stations.

  • There are a lot of curved subway stations in Seoul metropolitan area. These must be straightly constructed as many as possible. But some of stations are roundly designed and built in order to avoid pre-existed underground obstacle such as basement of high rise building, underground gas or water pipe line and subway stations from another line. As shown fig 1, one of the biggest problem occurring curved subway station is considered large gap between platform and vehicle when vehicle completely stop at the station. The gap potentially is in existence to subway passenger as very dangerous factors in rush hours. If passenger accidentally drop their food or leg between this gap when they get on the train and train leaves station, the passenger will be seriously injured by vehicle. In this paper, various design and instruments are introduced and best solution for this matter will be presented. In order to eliminate any possibility of accident happened gap between platform and vehicle, KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) have been developed new safety instrument. These technologies were applied for patent by KRRI. These mechanisms will provide confidence as well as safety to Korean subway passenger

Sliding Ceiling Panel Structure (미닫이 천정판 구조)

  • Subway stations have a characteristic that the facilities in the ceiling should be checked, replaced or expanded frequently. The frequent opening and closing of ceiling panels result in the damage of panels which makes them easily disengaged. In order to resolve this issue, which is giving difficulty in the maintenance of the stations, this study suggest a sliding ceiling panel structure which can be opened and closed with sliding mechanism, instead of current fixed type ceiling panels. The sliding ceiling panel will prevent the damage of ceiling panels due to frequent disengagement and engagement. It will increase the durability of ceiling panel and extend the cycle of panel replacement. Accordingly, the maintenance cost will be also reduced.

  • The railroad that represents modern industry began appearing in 1899. However, after the steam locomotive that provided water stopped the service, the water towers within the railroad station were useless. Suggestions presented in this study for activating the environment around the water towers that are designated as the cultural properties results are as followed: 1) The place where people can experience the vestiges of Korean War and the region that different novels accommodated. 2) A plaza 3) A facility for exhibition of industry inheritance and local products 4) A local landmark 5) Reproduction of the historical steam locomotive and water tower Local residents should participate in the activation process. And the designer should consider the environmental context. In addition, the activation of water towers should be designed under an urban plan.
