  • The individual production rate of Plecoglossus altivelis was studied from the 18th of June to the 25th of September (99 days) 1973, when the fish grow best at Gangjeong Stream, Jeju Do, as one of the ways to find out the reasons why the size of P. altivelis of Jeju Island is smaller than that of other places. The results obtained are as follows : 1) The indivudual production rate of the fish in the Gangjeong Stream during the summer 1973, was estimated as shown in Table 6. 2) The individual production rate of the fish and standing crop of algae on stones in the Gang-jeon Stream were no more than $7.2\%$ and $6.2\%$ respectively, when compared with those of the Ukawa River (which is located in Japan), thus the individual production rate of the fish at Gang-jeong Stream being very poor. 3) Population density was 5.2 individuals average per square meter during the research period. This is beyond the estimated density limit, i. e., 4.8 individuals per square meter, for the standing crop of algae on stones. 4) The period that the individual production rate of the fish was the most brisk during the summer in this stream was from August to September in 1973. 5) The poor individual production rate is primarily regarded due to insufficient gross ingestion. The reasons seemed to be insufficeient productivity of algae on the bottom stones, over-population density of the fish, and the lowered activity of ingestion due to low water temperature in daytime as compared with other places. Thus, the production rate of Plecoglossus altivelis in the Gangjeong Stream during the summer was greatly influenced by these factors.

  • Three hundred and sixty two specimens of Plecoglossus altivelis were randomly sampled from Chunji Stream in Seogwipo, Cheju-Do, during the period from 25 Aug., 1973 to 14 Feb., 1974 to investigate the relationship between total length and dody weight as well as the condition factor during the spawning period. Results obtained are summarized as follows : The relationships between total length and body weight are calculated as below, respectively : $W=0.008639\;L^{3.1806}$ : Prior to spawning period $W=0.01830\;L^{2.7689}$ : During spawning period The above equations differ each other significantly. Nevertheless, the significant difference is not found between sexes. The mean body length decreased during the spawning season. The fact seems to be caused by the death of large fish after spawning. The condition factor was $13.45\%_{\circ}$ on the average in August. The value decreased continuously from September, giving the minimum mean value of $10.25\%_{\circ}$ on Nobember 29. But the value increased again, showing $11.18\%_{\circ}$ in next February. Majority of the fish survived until next year was small ranging from 11 to 12cm in total length.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the genetic relationship of Pleurotus ferulae, an edible mushroom found on a medicinal plant, Ferula assa-foetida, in central China. The genetic relationships of 15 Pleurotus species strains, including five P. ferulae strains were analyzed. The strains were divided into seven groups at 80% genetic similarity level according to random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Four out of the seven groups consisted of two to four strains, while the other three groups consisted of three strains. In each of the three groups, the three strains were from each of three different Pleurotus species (P. cornucopiae, P. florida and P. sajorcaju). Other strains grouped together for genetic similarity were P. eryngii 26060 and P. fuscus var. ferulae 26065, three strains of P. ostreatus, and four P. ferulae strains (Bakdal, Awi, Cheonsan 1, and Yesan). However, Japanese Seolyi which belongs to P. ferulae and Heukpyung which belongs to P. ostreatus were together in a separate group.

  • Chon-Ashuu copper mining claim area is located, in terms of the geotectonic setting, in the northern part of the suture line which is bounded with the marginal part of Issik-kul micro-continent on the southern part of North Tien-Shan terrane. The geological blocks of Chon-Ashuu districts belong to the southern tip of Kazakhstan orocline. The rock formation of this area are composed of the continental crust or/and arc collage and the paleo-continental fragments-accretionary wedge complex of pre-Altaid orogenic materials. ASI(Alumina Saturation Index) of Paleozoic plutonic rocks in Chon-Ashuu area belong to the peraluminous and metaluminous rocks which were generated from fractional crystallization of Island and volcanic arc crusts in syn-post collisional plate. The geology of the ChonAshuu area consists of upper Proterozoic and Paleozoic rock formations. According to Harker variation diagrams for Chon-Ashuu arenaceous sedimentary rocks, the silty sandstone of Chon-Ashuu area showing the mineralogical immaturity were derived from Island arc or the marginal environments of active continent in Cambro-Carboniferous period. Numerous intrusive rocks of Chon-Ashuu area are distributed along north east trending tectonic structures and are bounded on four sides by the conjugate pattern. The most common type of the plutonic rocks are granodiorite and monzodiorite. According to the molecular normative An-Ab-Or composition (Barker, 1979), the plutonic rocks in Chon-Ashuu area are classified into tonalite - trondhjemite - granodiorite (TTG) series which are an aggregation of rocks which is the country rock of copper mineralization, that are formed by melting of hydrous mafic crust at high pressure.
