Sexual Counseling for People with Spinal Cord Injuries: The Application of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (척수장애인 성 상담을 위한 인지행동치료 적용에 관한 기초연구)

  • The number of individuals with spinal cord injuries in the most countries is rising each year. However, it is reported that most of them have sexual problem, however lack of research on deal with the issues related to sex identity and maladjustment in rehabilitation counseling setting. The purpose of this article: (a) to possess an adequate knowledge of the sexual problems facing individuals with spinal cord injuries; (b) to review past research on sexuality counseling with people who have spinal cord injuries; and (c) to present for some strategies for people with spinal cord injuries in order to sexuality adjustment, through Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Some suggestions are presented.

Developing physical activity smart wheelchair treadmill for Spinal cord disorder (척수장애인들을 위한 휠체어 전용 신체활동 스마트 트레드밀 개발)

  • 본 논문은 현대에 신체활동(Physical activity)를 하지 않으면 심혈관계질환, 당뇨, 암, 골다공증 등과 같은 질환의 위험성을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 공간부족, 시간부족, 날씨 등으로 제약을 받아 신체활동이 부족한 척수장애인의 들을 위한 스마트 휠체어 트레드밀을 개발함이다. 기존의 휠체어 트레드밀은 휠체어를 생활할 때 사용하는 대상자들에게 신체활동을 제공하였다. 스마트 휠체어 트레드밀은 경사(Slope-Incline, Decline)를 조절하여 개별마다 다른 건강체력능력에 운동강도(Exercise intensity)를 다르게 할 수 있다. 또한 스마트 휠체어 트레드밀은 거리측정, 속도측정이 가능한 센서를 부착하여 대상자의 운동량을 알 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 체중측정도 가능하여 대상자의 운동량에 대한 칼로리소모량을 얻을 수 있다. 이러한 스마트 휠체어 트레드밀과 VR(Virtual reality) 프로그램, 게임을 접목시켜 척수장애인들의 신체활동에 흥미를 증진 시킬 수 있다.

  • 최근 장애인에 대한 사회적 배려 및 관심이 높아지면서 장애인을 위한 각종 보조기구가 많이 개발되고 있다. 대부분의 청각, 시각, 정아 장애인들은 정자, 수화 등을 통해 타인과의 의사소통이 가능하며, 또한 이들을 위한 많은 보조기구가 개발되어 큰 도움을 받고 있지만 척수 손상 환자들을 위한 보조기구는 전무한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 척수 손상 환자를 위해 들숨, 날숨 기반으로 각종 기기(컴퓨터, 휠체어, 콘센트 등)들을 작동시키며, 또한 입력된 분자를 음성으로 출력할 수 있는 시스템을 설계하고 구현하여 척수 손상 환자들이 최소한의 도움으로 독립적인 활동이 가능하도록 하였다.

A Study on Influence of Social Integration of People with Spinal Cord Injury - Centered on Effect Parameters of Life Satisfaction - (척수장애인의 사회통합에 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 -삶의 만족도의 매개효과를 중심으로-)

  • This study tired to provide the fundamental data for the alternative of social integration of people with spinal cord injury in the field of social welfare practice as researching on the factors of integrating. With the assist of 13 local association under Korea Association of people with spinal cord injury, we used 304 answers counted by 335 responses subtracted by 21 untruthful responses among total 390 questionnaire. Based on significance test and path effect analysis of final structural equation model about the integrating factors of people with spinal cord injury, data shows after comparing how these factors physical and psychological factors, economic factors, and social support are affecting social integration of people with spinal cord injury. the satisfaction of life has partly parametric relation. Also it is perfectly parametric related with economic factors and social integration.

  • The aim of this study is to suggest the fitness Avatar model for increasing physical activities in individuals with SCI(spinal cord injury). With the increasing of the disable, the ratio of individuals with SCI is also increasing. Avatar is a movable image that represents a person in a virtual reality environment or in cyberspace. With the expansion of new technology, such as video games and virtual reality, there has been an increase in the interest of using virtual reality in therapy. It is not easy for individuals with SCI to access tho sports facilities due to paraplegia. The increasing physical activities based on virtual reality will be the most innovative and future-oriented approach. First, building a system and establishing a comprehensive support system is essential to activate and spread variety of physical activities for individuals with SCI. Second, providing a appropriate feedback and identifying the effect of intervention will be considered.

Development and Effects of Sexuality Education Program for Men with Spinal Cord Injury (남성 척수손상 장애인을 위한 성교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • This is nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study to develop a sexual education program for improving sexual confidence of men with spinal cord injury disabled and assess the effect of the program. The program was based on Dick & Carey's systematic design of instruction, literature review, focus group, in-depth interview, expert meeting, and preliminary study and formative evaluation. Subjects were conveniently assigned to experimental group of 30 and control group of 29, and the program was provided to experimental group once a week for 90~120 minutes, 3 sessions total. Sexual knowledge, attitude, and marriage intention were measured before, after, and after 4 weeks of intervention, and there was a significant difference in sexual knowledge(p<.001) and attitude(p=.020). The program positively changed sexual knowledge and attitude of men with spinal cord injury, and was useful nursing intervention. This study is considered to be significant as a basic data for social awareness ventilation and health education for the disabled.

Electromyographic features of upper body during wheelchair cycle ramps ascent for disabled with spinal cord injury (휠체어 사이클 경사로 주행 시 척수손상 장애인의 상체 근전도 특성 분석)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate difference of the muscle activation patterns of the upper body during wheelchair cycle ramps ascent of different slopes for disabled with spinal cord injury. Three subjects who is disabled with spinal cord injury participated in this study. Surface electromyography (EMG) data (reaction time [RT], onset-offset time, and peak value of muscle activation) were collected biceps, triceps, upper trapezius, anterior deltoid, latissimus dorsi, and upper rectus abdominal muscles during wheelchair cycle ramps ascent ($0^{\circ}$, $3^{\circ}$, and $6^{\circ}$). For latissimus dorsi muscle, RT and peak value of muscle activation was were increased and offset time was delayed as the slope increased (p < 0.05). These results indicate that wheelchair cycle ramps ascent might cause excessive overuse of latissimus dorsi muscle.
