  • In this study, we propose an approach of building a portal site that can offer integrated services for textbook through special libraries For this purpose, we analyzed previous related studies and investigated textbook portal construction sites domestically and abroad. Based on this research, we developed survey questions and conducted a survey targeting users of textbook libraries. As a result, the following projects are required for creating a textbook library: a comprehensive list of textbooks and other content construction, digitization projects of library holdings, collection and delivery of various textbook-related reference books, building a textbook database by topic, collecting and providing textbook-related research publications, a cooperation network with textbook-related organizations, and active promotion of portal sites.

  • Resently as ubiquitous environment rapidly emerges due to the development of network and information communication technology, ubiquitous computing is being noticed as a technology that will take the lead in information technology industry of the future. For the realization of this Ubiquitous Service requires some technique such as situations of environment and recognition of locations by the Sensor Network, then sensor data have to be transferred to an application service after processes. Also the creation rule of registration and search of the event is necessary because the USN sensor data must be possible to specific the multi condition of event which relates on using time. And for using a numerous sensor data provision service, service provider can publish its service in standardized registry for users to search and use the service registry. Currently there is the web service for a WS-Eventing and a UDDI with standard, but the event and the service registry is unnecessary or there is a portion which is insufficient. In this paper, I design and implementated standardzation of event definition for USN application service and service registry structure, standard API.

  • Urbanization and industrialization have led to a severe deterioration in urban air qualities. As an air pollution is closely associated with human health, citizen has a growing concern about the air quality policy to improve their residential environment. Due to the recently advance in web- and mobile computing technologies, citizens can easily access various air quality information and public authorities utilize the social media service to communicate citizens with air quality issues. Also citizens' participation and role has been increased to improve urban air qualities. Thus, to meet the technical and societal changes, a GIS-based air quality information system is developed based upon the Ubiquitous Public Access (UPA) model in ISO19154. The proposed system employs the context information model to provide air quality information depending on citizens' health conditions and locations. Also, citizens can present their perceptions of an air quality at their current location Public authorities can thus utilize the citizens' perceptions when establishing new air quality policies.

  • This study has Investigated (1) how to develop a specialized research information infrastructure for universities and (2) how to organize Specialized Research Information Center(SRIC). For these, it has discussed problems of the specialized research Information and cases of the management of SRIC in Korea and the other countries. The structure. function and information access methods of the SRIC, are presented. Also, the designation and management issues of the SRIC, with a classification scheme of specialized research Information, are presented. The results can be used as a reference for the related policies, and a fundamental material for the management of other Information service centers.

  • This article intends to discuss about the strategies and methods that the Korean library community should follow to make the ongoing experiment of 'bibliotherapy program' be successful, and eventually, settle up as a regular library service program. The main focus of discussion was on figuring out both theoretical foundations and historical roots that can justify such an experiment in Korean libraries. To the end, a comparative analysis to Readers' Advisory Services was conducted, and also done for comparing the special features in Korean libraries with those of American libraries, especially as related to library services to readers. The final suggestion includes the tasks that Korean LIS scholars should undertake to make the ongoing bibliotherapy experiment become an indigenous Korean model for library services.

  • There are many famous, well-known special collections built with unique and valuable materials in the libraries all around the world. These special collections are very important for the public and especially for the researchers. Digital access and the Web have altered the landscape of special collections and allowed increasing numbers of users to locate and access rare and valuable materials of special collections. This change has also affected libraries with the responsibility of building and managing special collections. The goal of this paper is to provide readers with insight into the culture of the special collection and to suggest good ideas for public libraries to build their special collections by introducing the special collection building cases in USA and Korea through investigating the public library websites.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a model of a liaison training program for academic librarians in Korea. The liaison training program model has been developed based upon the literature review and surveys about liaison training practices in foreign countries Expert interviews and case analyses were conducted to demonstrated its feasibility and applicability. This study found that this model identifies core competencies of academic liaison librarians and it helped developing guidelines by the level of each task: basic and advanced exercises, references, and worksheets.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the detailed elements of each RDM function that can be applied to the development of research data management system in Geoscience field in Korea. Eight institutions related to RDM services were analyzed to achieve the research purpose. As a result of the analysis, 80 detailed elements of Geoscience RDM function were derived, and a survey was conducted to domestic experts to verify the derived details. As a result, 80 RDM functional details for Geoscience are presented in order of importance. The elements presented can be presented as functional details in the establishment and operation of RDM services in the field of Geoscience in research institutes or university libraries in Korea.

  • In order for companies to survive rapidly changing business environment, it is expected that the activities in an enterprise must be reorganized around business processes; the information infrastructures are based on Web Services; and information systems are re-built around the BPMS (Business Process Management System). In this research we suggest major directions of e-business enhancement especially based on SOA(Service Oriented Architecture). Then we investigate the correlation between BPM functionalities and e-business technologies, and suggest priorities among the evolving directions of BPM functionalities via an intensive expert survey. The results of this study can be used by BPM solution vendors, prospective buyers and IT policy makers.

  • Citation analysis studies have reported many problems associated with data coverage problems common to popular citation databases such as Web of Science(WoS). In addition, the studies that analyzed citation patterns of Korean publications found that up to 75% of references in Korean publications were to international publications. As a first step in investigating the international coverage of WoS database, the study investigated the effect of adding citation data from Korea Science Citation Database(KSCD) to the impact factors and journal rankings of the journals listed in Journal Citation Reports. Specifically, the study mined the reference data from top 5 Korean Library and Information Science(KLIS) journals to recompute the impact factors reported in JCR 2009. Since the resulting journal rankings did not significantly differ from JCR 2009 rankings except for minor ranking changes, we analyzed additional citation data from 45 computer science and electrical engineering journals. Although the overall ranking difference was not statistically significant, one of the ranking partitions showed significant change. Such study findings despite its limited data sample suggest the potential impact of non-Western citation databases such as KSCD to bibliometric indicators provided by popular citation databases like WoS.
