  • In this paper, we propose a lunar landing scenario of a robotic lunar landing mission and implements an optimal landing trajectory at the powered descent phase based on the proposed scenario. The change of attitude of the lunar lander in the power descent phase affects not only the amount of fuel used but also sensor operation of image based navigation. Therefore, the attitude angular velocity is included in the cost function of the optimal control problem to minimize the unnecessary attitude change when the optimal landing trajectory generates at powered descent phase of the lunar landing. The influence of the change of attitude angular velocity on the optimal landing trajectory are analyzed by adjusting the weight of the attitude angular velocity. Based on the results, we suggest the proper weight to generate the optimal landing trajectory in order to minimize the influence of the attitude angular velocity.

  • Among the phases of flight operations pilots feel much pressure in landing segment. There is a number of factors affecting landing safety while pilots reduce aircraft speeds and make a touchdown and stop completely. If runway length is sufficient for landing, there maybe is no problem. But it is not the case all the time. So it is necessary to confirm whether landing performance is within limits or not. Required landing distance is actual landing distance demonstrated by flight test pilot plus allowances for average airline pilots. FAR(Federal Aviation Regulations) AFM certification is based upon manual landing for dry and wet runway. Other runway conditions are not the certification basis. JAR dictates even contaminated/slippery runway is included by prescribed allowances. Automatic landing is not certification basis, so actual landing distances are provided. In this paper I would like to analyze distance allowances included in each type of runway condition. In addition there is no regulation about allowances for specific runway condition, I would suggest adequate allowances for that case.

  • In case of unmanned aerial vehicles used in modern society, there has been a problem where a human operator should be still needed to control the UAV because of a lower level of autonomy. In this paper, genetic algorithm is selected as a methodology for the autonomy accomplishment and then we verify a possibility of UAV autonomy by applying the GA. The landing is one of the important classical tasks on aerial vehicle and the lunar Landing is one of the most historical events. Autonomy possibility of computer-simulated UAV is verified by landing autonomy method of a falling body equipped with a propulsion system similar to the lunar Lander. When applying the GA, the genom is encoded only with 4 actions (left-turn, right-turn, thrust, and free-fall) and applied onto the falling body, Then we applied the major operations of GA and achieved a success experiment. A major contribution is to construct a simulated UAV where an autonomy of UAV can be accomplished while minimizing the sensor dependency. Also we implemented a test-bed where the possibility of autonomy accomplishment by applying the GA can be verified.

  • Two types of thrusters(Descent Control Thruster (DCT) for reducing landing speed and Attitude Control Thruster (ACT) for attitude control) are mounted on the propulsion system of Ground test model lunar lander. In this paper, plume impingement effect and ground effect between DCT Modules are analyzed using numerical method when the impact occurred close to the ground.

  • To improve performance of the main landing gear for helicopters, a semi-active control landing gear is introduced in this paper. An MR damper based on commercial finite element electromagnetic field analysis of an electromagnet has been adapted the shock absorber. Force control algorithm (which maintains constantly the sum of air spring force and damping force as internal forces) which keep the sum of air spring force and damping force constant during landing, has been used for the controller, applied to control the semi-active landing gear. A series of drop simulations using ADAMS has been done with the passive, sky-hook control type, and force control type landing gears. The result of each simulation has been compared to evaluate the landing performance of the proposed force control type landing gear.

  • Most of studies for the ground load and ground behavior of landing gear have been conducted with an assumption that the structure of landing gear was rigid body. The assumption of rigid body during design process results in many errors or discrepancy. High ground load occurs in 3 directions on the shock absorbing strut during landing. This ground load initiated high structural deformation. In this study, the flex-multi-body dynamics is applied to adapt flexible bodies, so the results of analysis can be described close to landing gears real behaviour.

  • The moon landing is composed of the de-orbit descent phase, powered descent phase, and the powered descent phase is divide into 3-sub phase of the braking, approach, final landing phase. In this paper, the lunar lander perform landing control using 3-sub phase of optimal trajectory. First, generate the reference trajectory using gauss pseudo-spectral method. Thereafter generate PID controller using altitude and velocity error in each direction. Finally the lunar lander landing system constitute using the Simulink of Matlab, and perform simulation.

  • The optimal solution of minimum cost for aircraft landing problem(ALP) is very difficult problem because the approached aircraft are random time interval. Therefore this problem has been applied by various meta heuristic methods. This paper suggests O(nlog n) polynomial time heuristic algorithm to obtain the optimal solution for ALP. This algorithm sorts the target time of aircraft into ascending order. Then we apply the optimization of change the landing sequence take account of separation time and the cost of landing. For the Airland1 through Airland8 of benchmark data of ALP, we choose 25 data until the number of runway m that the total landing cost is 0. We can be obtain the optimal solution for all of the 25 data. Especially we can be improve the known optimal solution for m = 1of Airland8.

  • The operational characteristics of the landing gear retraction/extension depend on the complexity of design variables operational/environmental conditions. In order to meet the requirements of minimum stow area and performance, the integration of the landing gear system requires operational kinematic and dynamic analysis considering an effect of its related system. This study investigates operational dynamic behaviors of the T-50 landing gear system using ADAMS. Taking into account for various operational/environmental conditions, an analysis of dynamic behavior on the landing gear operational characteristics is performed with experience derived from a wide range of proprietary designs. Analytical results are presented for discussing the effects of temperature, aerodynamic and maneuver load on normal/emergency operation of the landing gears and doors. This analysis leads us to the conclusion that the proposed program is shown to be a better quantitative one that apply to a new development and troubleshooting of the landing gear system.
