Analysis on Subjective Image Quality Assessments for 4K-UHD Video Viewing Environments (4K-UHD 비디오 시청환경 특성분석을 위한 주관적 화질평가 분석)

  • In this paper, we perform subjective visual quality assessments on UHD video for UHD TV services and analyze the assessment results. Demands for video services have been increased with availabilities of DTV, Internet and personal media equipments. With this trend, the demands for high definition video have also been increasing. Currently, 2K-HD ($1920{\times}1080$) video have been widely consumed over DTV, DVD, digital camcoders, security cameras and other multimedia terminals in various types, and recently digital cinema contents of 4K-UHD($3840{\times}2160$) have been popularly produced and the cameras, beam projects, display panels that support for 4K-UHD video start to come out into multimedia markets. Also it is expected that 4K-UHD service will appear soon in broadcasting and telecommunications environments. Therefore, in this paper, subjective assessments of visual quality on resolutions, color formats, frame rates and compression rates have been carried to provide basis information for standardization of signal specification of UHD video and viewing environments for future UHDTV. As the analysis on the assessments, UHD video exhibits better subjective visual quality than HD by the evaluators. Also, the 4K-UHD test sequences in YUV444 shows better subjective visual quality than the 4K-UHD test sequences in YUV422 and YUV420, but there is little perceptual difference on 4K-UHD test sequences between YUV422 and YUV420 formats. For the comparison between different frame rates, 4K-UHD test sequences of 60fps gives better subjective visual quality than those of 30fps. For bit-depth comparison, HD test sequences in 10-bit depth were little differentiated from those in 8-bit depth in subject visual quality assessment. Lastly, the larger the PSNR values of the reconstructed 4K-UHD test sequences are, the higher the subjective visual quality is. Against the viewing distances, the differences among encoded 4K-UHD test sequences were less distinguished in longer distances from the display.

  • Face Detection can be defined as follows : Given a digitalized arbitrary or image sequence, the goal of face detection is to determine whether or not there is any human face in the image, and if present, return its location, direction, size, and so on. This technique is based on many applications such face recognition facial expression, head gesture and so on, and is one of important qualify factors. But face in an given image is considerably difficult because facial expression, pose, facial size, light conditions and so on change the overall appearance of faces, thereby making it difficult to detect them rapidly and exactly. Therefore, this paper proposes fast and exact face detection which overcomes some restrictions by using neural network. The proposed system can be face detection irrelevant to facial expression, background and pose rapidily. For this. face detection is performed by neural network and detection response time is shortened by reducing search region and decreasing calculation time of neural network. Reduced search region is accomplished by using skin color segment and frame difference. And neural network calculation time is decreased by reducing input vector sire of neural network. Principle Component Analysis (PCA) can reduce the dimension of data. Also, pose estimates in extracted facial image and eye region is located. This result enables to us more informations about face. The experiment measured success rate and process time using the Squared Mahalanobis distance. Both of still images and sequence images was experimented and in case of skin color segment, the result shows different success rate whether or not camera setting. Pose estimation experiments was carried out under same conditions and existence or nonexistence glasses shows different result in eye region detection. The experiment results show satisfactory detection rate and process time for real time system.

Processing Underwater Images for Information Extraction of Deep Seabed Manganese Nodules as New Energy Resource (미래 에너지 자원탐사를 위한 수중카메라 영상처리에 의한 심해저 망간단괴 정보추출)

  • Worldwide exploring and research for manganese nodules, as new energy resource, distributed on the deep seabed have progressed recently. Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute(KORDI) is a central organization to exploit the manganese nodules in the Pacific Ocean with 5,000m depth. Precise exploration is required for estimating amount of recoverable deposit, and this task could be accomplished by processing digital image processing techniques to the images taken by underwater camera system. Image processing and analysis provide information about characteristics of distribution of the manganese nodules. This study proposed effective methods to remove vignetting effect to improve image quality and to extract information. The results show more reliable information could be obtained by removing the vignetting and feasibility of utilizing image processing techniques for exploring the manganese nodules.

Super Resolution using Dictionary Data Mapping Method based on Loss Area Analysis (손실 영역 분석 기반의 학습데이터 매핑 기법을 이용한 초해상도 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a method to analyze the loss region of the dictionary-based super resolution result learned for image quality improvement and to map the learning data according to the analyzed loss region. In the conventional learned dictionary-based method, a result different from the feature configuration of the input image may be generated according to the learning image, and an unintended artifact may occur. The proposed method estimate loss information of low resolution images by analyzing the reconstructed contents to reduce inconsistent feature composition and unintended artifacts in the example-based super resolution process. By mapping the training data according to the final interpolation feature map, which improves the noise and pixel imbalance of the estimated loss information using a Gaussian-based kernel, it generates super resolution with improved noise, artifacts, and staircase compared to the existing super resolution. For the evaluation, the results of the existing super resolution generation algorithms and the proposed method are compared with the high-definition image, which is 4% better in the PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) and 3% in the SSIM (Structural SIMilarity Index).

Vanishing point-based 3D object detection method for improving traffic object recognition accuracy

  • In this paper, we propose a method of creating a 3D bounding box for an object using a vanishing point to increase the accuracy of object recognition in an image when recognizing an traffic object using a video camera. Recently, when vehicles captured by a traffic video camera is to be detected using artificial intelligence, this 3D bounding box generation algorithm is applied. The vertical vanishing point (VP1) and horizontal vanishing point (VP2) are derived by analyzing the camera installation angle and the direction of the image captured by the camera, and based on this, the moving object in the video subject to analysis is specified. If this algorithm is applied, it is easy to detect object information such as the location, type, and size of the detected object, and when applied to a moving type such as a car, it is tracked to determine the location, coordinates, movement speed, and direction of each object by tracking it. Able to know. As a result of application to actual roads, tracking improved by 10%, in particular, the recognition rate and tracking of shaded areas (extremely small vehicle parts hidden by large cars) improved by 100%, and traffic data analysis accuracy was improved.

  • ATM망은 차세대 초고속 정보 통신망 구축에서 핵심적인 역할을 담당할 것이다. ATM망은 53Byte단위의 셀을 전송단위로 망의 효율을 높이고 초고속망을 지원하기 위해 하드웨어적 스위치 시스템을 가지게 될 것으로 예측한다. 이러한 망을 최적으로 관리하고 이용하기 위해서 망에 대한 모델링과 망에 입력되는 트래픽, 즉 소스에 대한 모델링이 주요한 이슈로 대두되었다. 또한 초고속 ATM망을 이용하여 차세대 영상서비스를 제공하는 것과 관련된 연구분야가 현재 활발히 진행중이다. 본 연구에서는 ATM망을 이용한 비디오 서비스에 핵심적인 역할을 담당하고 있는 비디오 신호원의 VBR 및 CBR 특성에 대한 분석과 그에 따른 새로운 모델을 제시하고자 한다.

차세대 3차원 실사 그래픽스 기술의 국제특허 동향 및 전망 분석

  • 최근 차세대 온라인 및 오프라인 실시간 3차원 실사 및 애니메이션 서비스를 위한 시스템 및 요소 기술 분야의 기술 개발 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 정부 차원의 다양한 기초/원천 R&D로부터 서비스, 사업화 및 상용화를 추진 중에 있다. 여기에는 게임, 체험, 테마파크, 플랫폼, 다면영상, 유통 등의 넓은 분야로 확장이 진행 중이다. 특히, 초실감의 혼합현실 구현을 위해, 실사로 처리 가능한 3D 컨텐츠 제작 및 통신 기술이 핵심 기술로 대두되고 있으며, 국내 환경을 살펴보면 삼성전자, SK텔레콤 등이 관련 서비스를 준비 중에 있으나, 미국의 경우는 MICROSOFT, Google 등이 홀로 렌즈 등을 이용한 혼합현실 기술을 일부 상용화하고 있는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 따라서 본 고에서는 3D 실사 그래픽스 기반의 컨텐츠 제작을 위한 객체인식 기술(AA), 동적 애니메이션 생성 및 처리 기술(AB), 동적 애니메이션 압축 및 전송 기술(AC) 관련 국제적 특허 동향을 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 향후 관련 분야의 시장을 전망하고자 한다.

Quality Characteristics of White Pan Bread with Haenaru Rice Flour (해나루쌀을 첨가한 식빵의 품질특성)

  • This study investigated the quality characteristics of white pan bread with Haenaru rice flour which is regional product of Dangjin. Haenaru rice flour was substituted 10%, 30% and 50% for each bread sample. The overall effects of Haenaru rice flour substitution on pan bread were examined by investigating fermentation rates, pH, volume, specific volume, TPA, crumbScan and colorimeter and using sensory evaluation. A control showed the highest fermentation rate by 60 min, but there was no differences among all samples except HNR50 after 60 min. The higher Haenaru rice flour content, the higher pH value of bread loaf and bread and the lower volume and specific volume of rice breads. According to TPA and crumbscan, high amounts of Haenaru rice flour substitution increased the hardness of bread and decreased fineness and elongation of bread cells. In sensory evaluation, though a control got the best texture, flavor and overall acceptance, HRF30 and HRF10 showed the best preference of appearance and taste respectively, But most of all, there were no significant differences among those samples. Consequently, the results indicate that a substitution of Haenaru rice flour for wheat flour by 30 percent will not show any decisive difference in consumer's acceptance.

Implementation of MPEG4-CELP Vocoder for Speech Codec of Internet Video Phone (인터넷 화상 전화용 음성 코텍을 위한 MPEG4-CELP 부호화기의 구현)

  • 인터넷이 일상생활에 다양하게 활용되면서 인터넷 채널을 통한 정보의 형태는 문자와 이미지 외에 음성, 오디오 신호 및 동영상 부분까지 확대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG4-CELP를 인터넷 화상 통신의 음성 코덱용으로 사용하기 위한 최적화 기법 및 알고리듬의 개선을, DSP칩이 내장된 보드가 아닌 인터넷의 터미널로 사용되고 있는 펜티엄 프로세서를 장착한 PC에 초점을 맞추어 수행하였다. MPEG4-CELP VM C소스를 분석 및 프로파일(Profile)한 결과를 토대로 패라미터 추출을 위해 많은 연산을 수행하는 부호화기에 대해서 CPU상에 부하를 많이 주는 함수들을 제 1차 최적화 대상 함수들로 선정하고, CPU에 부하를 많이 주지는 않으나 호출되는 회수가 많은 함수를 2차 최적화 대상 함수로 선정해, C소스 레벨의 소프트웨어 파이프 라이닝(Software Pipelinging) 기법들을 적용하여 최적화를 수행하였다. 또한 1차 최적화 대상 함수의 경우에는 소프트웨어 파이프라이닝의 적용과 함께 연산량 감소를 위한 알고리듬 변형까지 수행하였다. 위의 과정을 거쳐 최적화 된 MPEG4-CELP는 펜티엄Ⅲ 450㎒ PC에서 음성을 부호화 하는데 원 VM소스에 비해 약 2배정도의 시간이 단축되는 것을 확인하였다.

차세대 SAR 활용을 위한 이중 채널 항공기 SAR 시스템 구축 및 간섭기법 연구

  • 지금까지 대부분의 인공위성 또는 항공기 SAR 시스템은 하나의 위상 배열 안테나를 이용하며, 단 영상을 생성하고 판독하는데 주로 사용되었지만, 차세대 SAR 시스템은 다중 편파 관측이 가능하거나 이중 채널 또는 위상 배열 안테나의 분리 모드(split-antenna mode)를 통해 간섭기법의 적용이 가능한 시스템으로 발전이 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 측면에서 이 논문은 차세대 SAR 인공위성의 새로운 분석 기법 연구와 활용 증진을 위해, 유사한 기능을 보일 수 있는 이중 채널 항공기 SAR 시스템을 구축하고, 이로부터 단일 패스 간섭기법(single-pass interferometry)을 연구한 논문이다. 공간적으로 서로 다른 위치에 있는 두 개의 SAR 채널에서 동시에 수신된 레이다 신호를 간섭적으로 처리하여, 지형의 고도 정보를 추출하거나 이동하는 물체의 속도를 탐지할 수 있도록 알고리즘을 구현하였고, 새로운 활용 분야를 모색하고자 하였다.
