A Study on a Ranging Protocol for the ATM-PON Based ell ITU-T G.983.1 (G.983.1 기반의 ATM-PON을 위한 Ranging 프로토콜에 관한 연구)

  • ATM PON system is regarded as a solution of the next generation access network because it can cover various types of subscribers in a single platform. In this paper, we describe the merit of the ATM PON and the key protocols for its operation. Above all, the ranging is the most important protocol providing a mean of the time-division multiple access in the system. A problem in the protocol is that the window size, the time interval that ranging cell arrives, is too long. During the interval, user traffics cannot be send to the upstream, which makes the quality of service degraded. In this paper, we suggest a method to minimize the window size when the length of the optic fiber is known with some deviation. The window size can be reduced as 7 % of the conventional method when the deviation of the length is 1 Km.

  • As a variety of wireless network services, such as WLAN, WiBro, cdma2000, and HSDPA, are provided and the range of users' choices for the wireless services are broaden, MCoA (Multiple Car-of Address) concepts that enable users to use wireless interfaces simultaneously have been presented in IETF MONAMI6 WG. Through this scheme, users can access several networks simultaneously by using multiple wireless interfaces. Such various wireless connection technologies continue to advance as they are connected and integrated to All-IP-based core network, and at the same time, heterogeneous networks are being managed overlaid according to the coverage of the wireless connection technologies. Under such circumstances, needs for an integrated architecture have arisen, and thus Wireless service framework is required that effectively manages heterogeneous networks which coexist with next generation's networks for 4G. In this paper, a wireless service framework is suggested in the consideration of current wireless service environment, and the framework covers the schemes to minimize the packet loss caused by handover, and also modified Multiple Care-of Address that helps to select most effective network by considering characteristics of various interfaces as well as users' preferences.

  • Power distribution management system is essential for the efficient management and operation of power distribution networks. The power distribution system is a system that manages the distribution network based on IT, and has been evolving along with the development of the power industry. The current power distribution system is designed to operate at a relatively low network transmission speed based on the independent operation of the main equipment. However, due to distributed resources such as photovoltaic or energy storage devices, which are rapidly increasing in popularity in recent years, the operation of future distribution environments is becoming more complex, and various information needs to be collected in real time. In this study, the requirements of the next-generation power distribution system were derived to overcome the limitations of the existing power distribution system, and based on this, the communication network system and performance requirements for the distribution system were defined. In order to verify the performance of the designed system, a software-based terminal device simulator was developed because it takes excessive time and cost to introduce a large-scale system such as a power distribution system. Using the simulator, a test environment similar to the actual operation was established, and the number of terminal devices was increased up to 1,000. The proposed system was shown to satisfy the requirements to support the functions of the next-generation power distribution system, recording less than 10 % of the communication network bandwidth.

  • This paper proposes a mobility prediction algorithm for the effective handover among hybrid networks. The proposed algorithm is consisted of two mechanisms to predict a mobile terminal's path. First, the mobile terminal will be checking its received signal power level. Then the mobile terminal will judge its path in some network. Second, if the mobile terminal change its path suddenly, it will be dealing with this situation appropriately using the mobile terminal's speed. This paper introduces existing researches and the proposed algorithm. Finally, our algorithm is compared with existing approaches in terms of the handover delay by using the network simulator OPNet version 10.0.

A Cooperative Security Gateway cooperating with 5G+ network for next generation mBcN (차세대 mBcN을 위한 5G+ 연동보안게이트웨이)

  • The next generation mBcN should be built to cooperate with the wireless network to support hyper-speed and hyper-connectivity. In this paper, we propose a network architecture for the cooperation mBcN and 5G commercial network and architecture of the cooperative security gateway required for the cooperation. The proposed cooperative security gateway is between gNB and UPF to support LBO, SFC, and security. Our analysis shows that the proposed architecture has several advantages. First of all, user equipment connected with the mBcN can be easily connected through the 5G commercial radio network to the mBcN. Second, the military application traffic can be transmitted to mBcN without going through the 5G core network, reducing the end-to-end transmission delay without causing the traffic load on the 5G core network. In addition, the security level of the military application can effectively be maintained because the user equipment can be connected to the cooperative security gateway, and the traffic generated by the user equipment is transmitted to the mBcN without going through the 5G core network. Finally, we demonstrate that LBO, SFC, and security modules are essential functions of the proposed gateway in the 5G test-bed environment.

  • In this paper, we propose video quality control system(VQCS) which can control video service quality through the monitoring of end-to-end available bandwidth for video streaming service like IPTV in NGN convergence network. Various multimedia services such as video, voice and gaming service can be provided by IPTV, and these services require large amounts of bandwidth. At this time, video quality degradation like video jerkiness, block distortion and blurring is caused when network available bandwidth is insufficient. Available bandwidth monitoring method is need to stably control video streaming quality. So, we periodically calculate the amount of the packets in link and measure available bandwidth by using total length field in IP header at terminal. Scalability extractor in network selects suitable video streaming data rate based on available bandwidth and transports video streaming with adaptive data rate to prevent video quality deterioration.

동북아 과학기술 허브로 육성을 위한 과학기술 정보인프라 구축 방안 : 유럽연합(TTU)의 과학기술 협력 및 정보인프라 정책의 벤치마킹

  • 참여정부의 출범과 한께 과학기술계에서는 동북아 과학기술 허브 구축방안 논의가 활발히 진행되고 있으나, 현재까지 이러한 논의는 법제도의 정비 및 과학기술특구 건설 등의 이슈에 한정되고 있는 실정이며, 더욱이 이를 뒷받침할 실증적 연구는 미미하다. 허브란 개념이 네트워크에서의 중심성(centrality)을 의미 하며, 현재 및 미래의 과학학기술협력 네트워크 발전에 정보통신기술이 중요한 역할을 수행함을 고려할 때, 우리나라의 초고속통신망 인프라를 십분 활용한 차세대 과학기술 정보인프라의 구축을 통한 동북아 사이버 연구네트워크상의 허브화(궁극적으로는 e-Science의 허브화를 지향)는 지역 클러스터 건설을 통한 물리적 허브화 못지 않게 중요하다 하겠다. 본 연구는 먼저 네트워크 분석기법을 동아시아의 과학기술협력 네트워크에 적용하여 주요 네트워크 지수를 실증적으로 진단하고, 특히 이를 유럽연합의 과학기술협력 네트워크의 패턴과 비교 분석하였다. 유럽 연합은 1984년부터 과학기술 협력 프로그램인 Framework Program을 시작하여 일찍부터 역내 과학기술협력 프로그램을 운영해 온 경험을 가지고 있고, 2000년부터는 자발적 협력과 네트워킹을 통해 유럽의 연구 개발 활동을 통합·조정하기 위해 새롭게 제안된 유럽 연구개발권 (European Research Area) 형성이 구체화되고 있어, 동북아 과학기술협력 네트워크를 건설하는데 좋은 벤치마킹 대상이라 할 수 있다. 이 보고서에서는 유럽 연구개발귄이라는 우산 아래서 유럽의 과학기술 활동이 조정 및 통합되는 과정을 살펴보고, 이를 위한 과학기술 정보인프라의 주요 기능을 컨텐트 (연구정보서비스와 메타데이터 표준), 시스템 (슈퍼 컴퓨팅, 광대역 네트워크, GRID), e-Science 응용연구 별로 살펴보았다. 끝으로 유럽의 경험을: 교훈삼아 동북아 e-Science 네트워크의 건설을 위한 정책적 시사점과 동북아 연구개발정보 Portal 및 APEC APGrid 연구망 등의 구체적인 정보인프라 구축방안을 도출하였다.

Design of Interworking Control System between QoS Parameters and QoE Items to Control Multimedia Services Quality (멀티미디어 서비스 품질 제어를 위한 QoS 파라미터와 QoE 요소간의 연동 제어 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a quality interworking control system to enhance user's quality satisfaction in NGN environment by controling QoS parameters related with QoE in network layer when service user's QoE using variance multimedia service is poor. The proposed system gathers QoS parameter information in network layer through control packet such as RTCP, and evaluates QoE of multimedia service using these QoS parameter information. Comparing the evaluated QoE with the measured QoE in application layer, QCS judges quality degradation, deduces related QoS parameters and decides relative importance of each parameter when QoE is lower than threshold value. QCS generates QoS control values which is based on routing and switching policy in service quality control system(SCS) and forwards them to SCS. Through this proposed system, service and network providers can provide multimedia services of enhanced quality to service users taking account of service characteristic and network performance.

  • An important features of next-generation wireless networks will be heterogeneous environment in which a mobile terminal will be able to connect to multiple radio access networks and network selection mechanisms play an important role in ensuring QoS for users in this environment. In this paper, our study is concerned with an extension of the well known AHP to the group decision making methods. The users requested specific QoS divide into a group and the access networks with similar characteristics split into a group. Between each group, the one group is selected and within that group, the best access networks will be assigned according to priority order by network selection algorithm. The experimental results of MATLAB simulation show that the every user in each services can select the same network with decision value as large as 0.9. Consequently, the proposed network selection mechanism is more effective than conventional one in integrated UMTS and WLAN networks.

Wireless Access Network Virtualization Based on Distributed Antenna Systems (분산 안테나 시스템에 기반한 무선 액세스망 가상화)

  • In this paper, we propose a wireless access network virtualization algorithm based on a digital unit (DU)-radio unit (RU) separated network structure in a cellular network with multiple radio access technologies (RATs). The proposed wireless access network virtualization algorithm consists of a baseline access network virtualization, RAT virtualization, and access path migration algorithms. Final wireless access network virtualization is performed by sequentially performing these procedures. Through system-level simulations which assume 3GPP LTE and WiMAX systems, the performance of the proposed wireless access network virtualization is evaluated in terms of system throughput for two scenarios according to asymmetry of network traffic load. Numerical results show that our proposed wireless access network virtualization algorithm achieves significant system throughput gain even in asymmetric traffic load and user distribution situations.
