We have developed an inversion algorithm for loop-loop electromagnetic (EM) data, based on the localised non-linear or extended Born approximation to the solution of the 2.5D integral equation describing an EM scattering problem. Source and receiver configuration may be horizontal co-planar (HCP) or vertical co-planar (VCP). Both multi-frequency and multi-separation data can be incorporated. Our inversion code runs on a PC platform without heavy computational load. For the sake of stable and high-resolution performance of the inversion, we implemented an algorithm determining an optimum spatially varying Lagrangian multiplier as a function of sensitivity distribution, through parameter resolution matrix and Backus-Gilbert spread function analysis. Considering that the different source-receiver orientation characteristics cause inconsistent sensitivities to the resistivity structure in simultaneous inversion of HCP and VCP data, which affects the stability and resolution of the inversion result, we adapted a weighting scheme based on the variances of misfits between the measured and calculated datasets. The accuracy of the modelling code that we have developed has been proven over the frequency, conductivity, and geometric ranges typically used in a loop-loop EM system through comparison with 2.5D finite-element modelling results. We first applied the inversion to synthetic data, from a model with resistive as well as conductive inhomogeneities embedded in a homogeneous half-space, to validate its performance. Applying the inversion to field data and comparing the result with that of dc resistivity data, we conclude that the newly developed algorithm provides a reasonable image of the subsurface.
The present study was carried out to examine flow properties in linear drainage channels such as road surface drainage facilities. The finite difference formulation for the varied flow analysis was solved for flow profiles in the channels. Starting the first step at the control section, the Newton-Raphson method was applied for producing numerical solutions of the equation. We considered two types of linear drainage channels, a channel with one outlet at downstream end and a channel with two outlets at both ends. Moreover, the flow analysis for various channel slopes was performed. However, we considered channels with the two outlets of slopes satisfying the condition that the both ends are the control section. The maximum of those slopes was decided from the relation between the channel slope and the location of control section. The flow of a channel with one outlet was calculated upward and downward from the control section existing in channel or upward from the control section at downstream end. The flow of a channel with two outlets at both ends were calculated for upstream and downstream channel segments divided by the water dividend, respectively and the flow analysis was completed when the water depth at the water dividend calculated from upstream end was equal to that calculated from downstream end. If the slope was larger than the critical slope, the channel with two outlets was likely to behave like the channel with one outlet. The maximum water depth was investigated and compared with that calculated additionally from the uniform flow analysis. The uniform flow analysis was likely to lead a excessive design of a drainage channel with mild slope.

Curved beam structures are generally used as components in structures such as railroad bridges and vehicles. The stability analysis of curved beams has been studied by a large number of researchers. Due to the complexities of structural components, it is difficult to obtain an analytical solution for any boundary conditions. In order to overcome these difficulties, the differential quadrature method (DQM) has been applied for a large number of cases. In this study, DQM was used to solve the complicated partial differential equations for buckling analysis of curved beams. The governing differential equation was deduced and solved for beams subjected to uniformly distributed radial loads. Critical loads were calculated with various opening angles, boundary conditions, and parameters. The results of the DQM were compared with exact solutions for available cases, and the DQM gave outstanding accuracy even when only a small number of grid points was used. Critical loads were also calculated for the in-plane inextensional buckling of the asymmetric curved beams, and two theories were compared. The study of a beam with extensibility of the arch axis shows that the effects on the critical loads are significant.
Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Day/Night Band (DNB) data help to enable rapid emergency responses through detection of the artificial and natural disasters occurring at night. The DNB data without correction of lunar irradiance effect distributed by Korea Ocean Science Center (KOSC) has advantage for rapid change detection because of direct receiving. In this study, radiance differences according to the phase of the moon was analyzed for urban and mountain areas in Korean Peninsula using the DNB data directly receiving to KOSC. Lunar irradiance correction algorithm was proposed for the change detection. Relative correction was performed by regression analysis between the selected pixels considering the land cover classification in the reference DNB image during the new moon and the input DNB image. As a result of daily difference image analysis, the brightness value change in urban area and mountain area was ${\pm}30$ radiance and below ${\pm}1$ radiance respectively. The object based change detection was performed after the extraction of the main object of interest based on the average image of time series data in order to reduce the matching and geometric error between DNB images. The changes in brightness occurring in mountainous areas were effectively detected after the calibration of lunar irradiance effect, and it showed that the developed technology could be used for real time change detection.

Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation on the thermal boundary resistance(TBR) of an aluminum(Al)/silicon(Si) interface was performed in the present study. The constant heat flux across the Si/Al interface was simulated by adding the kinetic energy in hot Si region and removing the same amount of the energy from the cold Al region. The TBR estimated from the sharp temperature drop at the interface was independent of heat flux and equal to $5.13{\pm}0.17K{\cdot}m^2/GW$ at 300K. The simulation result was experimentally confirmed by the time-domain thermoreflectance technique. A 90nm thick Al film was deposited on a Si(100) wafer using an e-beam evaporator and the TBR on the film/substrate interface was measured using the time-domain thermoreflectance technique based on a femtosecond laser system. A numerical solution of the transient heat conduction equation was obtained using the finite difference method to estimate the TBR value. Experimental results were compared to the prediction and discussions on the nanoscale thermal transport phenomena were made.
Water curtain cultivation (WCC) systems in Korea have depleted water resources in shallow aquifers through massive pumping of groundwater. The goal of this study is to simulate the groundwater variations observed from massive groundwater pumping at a site in Cheongweon. MODFLOW was used to simulate three-dimensional regional groundwater flow, and the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) watershed hydrologic model was employed to introduce temporal changes in groundwater recharge into the MODFLOW model input. Additionally, the estimation method for groundwater discharge in WCC areas (Moon et al., 2012) was incorporated into a groundwater pumping schedule as a MODFLOW input. We compared simulated data and field measurements to determine the degree to which winter season groundwater drawdown is effectively modeled. A simulation time of 107 days was selected to match the observed groundwater drawdown from November, 2012 to March, 2013. We obtained good agreement between the simulated drawdown and observed groundwater levels. Thus, the estimation method using daily minimum temperatures, may be applicable to other cultivation areas and can serve as a guideline in simulating the regional flow of riverside groundwater aquifers.

A research of image-based articulated pose estimation has some problems such as detection of human feature, precise pose estimation, and real-time performance. In particular, various methods are currently presented for recovering many joints of human body. We propose the novel numerical inverse kinematics improved with the UKF(unscented Kalman filter) in order to estimate the human pose in real-time. An existing numerical inverse kinematics is required many iterations for solving the optimal estimation and has some problems such as the singularity of jacobian matrix and a local minima. To solve these problems, we combine the UKF as a tool for optimal state estimation with the numerical inverse kinematics. Combining the solution of the numerical inverse kinematics with the sampling based UKF provides the stability and rapid convergence to optimal estimate. In order to estimate the human pose, we extract the interesting human body using both background subtraction and skin color detection algorithm. We localize its 3D position with the camera geometry. Next, through we use the UKF based numerical inverse kinematics, we generate the intermediate joints that are not detect from the images. Proposed method complements the defect of numerical inverse kinematics such as a computational complexity and an accuracy of estimation.
The prediction of near field behavior around an underground high-level radioactive waste repository is important for the repository design as well as the safety assessment. In this study, a sensitivity analysis for seven parameters consisted of design parameters and material properties was carried out using a three-dimensional finite difference code. From the sensitivity analysis, it was found that the effects of borehole spacing, tunnel spacing, cooling time and rock thermal conductivity were more significant than the other parameters. For getting a statistical distribution of buffer and rock temperatures around the repository, an artificial neural network, backpropagation, was applied. The reliability of the trained neural network was tested with the cases with randomly chosen input parameters. When the parameter variation is within ${\pm}10%$, the prediction from the network was found to be reliable with about a 1% error. It was possible to calculate the temperature distribution for many cases quickly with the trained neural network. The buffer and rock temperatures showed a normal distribution with means of $98^{\circ}C$ and $83.9^{\circ}C$ standard deviations of $3.82^{\circ}C$ and $3.67^{\circ}C$, respectively. Using the neural network, it was also possible to estimate the required change in design parameters for reducing the buffer and rock temperatures for $1^{\circ}C$.

A new numerical method using solution-adaptive grids (SAG) is developed to solve the Richards' equation (RE) for unsaturated flow in porous media. Using a grid generation technique, the SAG method automatically redistributes a fixed number of grid points during the flow process, so that more grid points are clustered in regions of large solution gradients. The method uses the coordinate transformation technique to employ a new transformed RE, which is solved with the standard finite difference method. The movement of grid points is incorporated into the transformed RE, and therefore all computation is performed on fixed grid points of the transformed domain without using any interpolation techniques. Thus, numerical difficulties arising from the movement of the wetting front during the infiltration process have been substantially overcome by the new method. Numerical experiments for an one-dimensional infiltration problem are presented to compare the SAG method to the modified Picard method using a fixed grid. Results show that accuracy of a SAG solution using 41 nodes is comparable with the solution of the fixed grid method using 201 nodes, while it requires only 50% of the CPU time. The global mass balance and the convergence of SAG solutions are strongly affected by the time step size (Δt) and the weighting parameter (${\gamma}$) used for generating solution-adaptive grids. Thus, the method requires automated readjustment of Δt and ${\gamma}$ to yield mass-conservative and convergent solutions, although it may increase computational costs. The method can be effective especially for simulating unsaturated flow and other transport problems involving the propagation of a sharp-front.

Binary scalar multiplication which is the main operation of elliptic curve cryptography is vulnerable to the side-channel analysis. Especially, it is vulnerable to the side-channel analysis which uses power consumption and electromagnetic emission patterns. Thus, various countermeasures have been studied. However, they have focused on eliminating patterns of data dependent branches, statistical characteristic according to intermediate values, or the interrelationships between data. No countermeasure have been taken into account for the secure design of the key bit check phase, although the secret scalar bits are directly loaded during that phase. Therefore, in this paper, we demonstrate that we can extract secret scalar bits with 100% success rate using a single power or a single electromagnetic trace by performing key bit-dependent attack on hardware implementation of binary scalar multiplication algorithm. Experiments are focused on the $Montgomery-L{\acute{o}}pez-Dahab$ ladder algorithm protected by scalar randomization. Our attack does not require sophisticated pre-processing and can defeat existing countermeasures using a single-trace. As a result, we propose a countermeasure and suggest that it should be applied.
