  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency characteristics of forced vibration considering the vehicle progress. And the vibration characteristics in frequency domain that occur, when vehicle passes the bump, were analyzed. The responses such as displacement, velocity and acceleration were obtained through numerical analysis, and FFT processing was performed to analyze the frequency response function(FRF) characteristics. In particular, the location of vehicle eigenmodes and external excitation modes was clearly shown and analyzed. In the forced vibration model by external force, the behavior of the eigenmode in power spectrum and real and imaginary parts were also analyzed. The mode characteristics were also analyzed in each FRF. It was approximated by assuming total excitation force by considering the exciting frequency using impulse and sine wave forces, which can give the amplitude and frequencies. The response characteristics of forced oscillations having different mass, damping and stiffness have been systematically discussed.

  • Wheel reprofiling is frequently conducted to remove faults such as flange wear, flat areas, and cracks that occur in railway vehicle operation. We analyzed the dynamic performances of a vehicle before and after wheel reprofiling to grasp the influence of reprofiling on the dynamic behavior of the vehicle. We measured the wheel profile of the test vehicle and conducted a running test to analyze the vibration and comfort characteristics of the test vehicle. The result of the test indicated that vibration of the test vehicle after wheel reprofiling was reduced compared to that before wheel reprofiling. And, comfort level of the test vehicle after wheel reprofiling was improved by about 3dB laterally and vertically. Consequently, the positive effect of wheel reprofiling on the dynamic performance of vehicle was verified.

  • Vibration velocity induced by earthquakes or external vibration sources is one of the integrity assessment indexes, and is also a representative value used to describe the amount of vibration because it is based on a proportional relationship with the damage scale. In this study, the vibration velocity criterion for structures is first examined. Then, based on the velocity criterion, an integrity assessment is performed. Burial condition is set up based on the "Highway and Local Road Design Criteria" with API 5L Gr. X65 pipeline(D=762 mm). The FE model considers DB-24 vehicle load as a time function with a varying velocity in the range of $20{\sim}160\;km/h$. Maximum vibration velocity occurs at v=80 km/h and decreases after v=80 km/h. The maximum vibration velocity of buried pipeline by DB-24 loads is about 0.034 cm/s. The velocity that occurs is in the range of allowable values for each vibration velocity criterion. The wave propagation velocity was identified based on attenuation law and the minimum value appears at vehicle velocity 80 km/h that has maximum vibration velocity.

  • This paper deals with the Filtered-x Least Mean Square algorithm for a active vibration control in vehicle vibration reduction. Before applying the proposed FxLMS algorithm to automobile, the performance of the FxLMS algorithm is simulated using sensor data of a vehicle. The FxLMS algorithm requires that reference signal be a representation of disturbance signal and the plant model be incorporated into the computation path. To this end, The system identification is carried out to obtain the plant model based on the measurement results. A tachometer signal is used as reference signal. The FxLMS control algorithm is first tested using simulation and applied to a vehicle. Experimental results show that the proposed control algorithm can reduce vibration level in a short period of time.

  • Short-time Fourier transforms (STFT) are useful for analyzing signals with harmonics that vary with time. If the variation of the harmonics with time is smooth, such as in kinematic vibrations in vehicles, then it is possible to improve the STFT using order spectra and correlation analysis. In this paper, it is shown how correlation analysis can be performed when the speed signal is noisy or unknown and then it is shown how order spectra become simple to compute after this analysis. The results are illustrated by an analysis of axle and car body vibrations in the prototype high-speed train, HSR-350x.

  • The vehicle loading test under the strict traffic control is generally carried out as a present practice in an evaluation process of the bearing capacity of a bridge. The quasi-static load test is recently proposed to mitigate the traffic condition of test, and analyze the disturbed acceleration time-history data of free vibration due to the ambient traffic on the bridge by Fourier transform to calculate only the natural frequencies of the bridge. The calculated frequencies have some errors due to the analysis technique as well as the influence of ambient traffic loads, and in addition to it is cumbersome to obtain the free vibration data during a quasi-static load test. In this study, the wavelet transform technique using Morlet wavelet is used to analyze the acceleration data recorded during a quasi-static load test on a bridge and calculate the natural frequencies and the modal damping ratios of the bridge. The study results show that the wavelet transform technique is a reliable and reasonable method to analyze test data and obtain the natural frequencies and the modal damping ratios of a bridge regardless of the data types i.e. free or forced vibrations.
