Electrochemical Properties of Current Collector in the All-vanadium Redox Flow Battery (바나듐 레독스-흐름 전지에서 집전체의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Two commercial carbon plates were evaluated as a current collector (bipolar plate) in the all vanadium redox-flow battery (V-RFB). The performance properties of V-RFB were test in the current density of $60mA/cm^2$. The electromotive forces (OCV at SOC 100%) of V-RFB using A and B current collector were 1.47 V and 1.54 V. The cell resistance of V-RFB using A current collector was $4.44{\sim}5.00{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ and $3.28{\sim}3.75{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ for charge and discharge, respectively. The cell resistance of V-RFB using B current collector was $4.19{\sim}4.42{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ and $4.71{\sim}5.49{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ for charge and discharge, respectively. The performance of V-RFB using each current collector was evaluated. The performance of V-RFB using A current collector was 93.1%, 76.8% and 71.4% for average current efficiency, average voltage efficiency and average energy efficiency, respectively. The performance of V-RFB using B current collector was 96.4%, 73.6% and 71.0% for average current efficiency, average voltage efficiency and average energy efficiency, respectively.

  • Electrochemical properties of the Al current collector being used in lithium ion batteries have been studied in the 4 different aprotic electrolytes(1 M $LiBF_4$ EC : DMC, 1 M $LiBF_4$ EC : EMC. 1 M $LiPF_6$ EC : DMC. 1 M $LiPF_6$ EC : EMC) employing cyclic voltammetry and impedance measurement. Al electrode showed a wide range of the electrochemical window(0.5~4.1 V vs. $Li/Li^{+}$). However, solid interfacial materials has been formed on the Al surface due to reduction of impurities($H_2O$, $O_2$, etc), lithium salts, and electrolytes at low applied potentials, and aluminum oxides in the highly oxidizing potential as well. Especially, Al current collector was susceptible to localized in consequence of impurities in electrolytes.

Improving the Electrochemical Properties of Lithium Terephthalate-based Lithium-Organic Battery with A Graphite Coated Current Collector (흑연 코팅 집전체를 이용한 Lithium Terephthalate 기반 리튬-유기 이차전지의 전기화학적 특성 개선)

  • In this study, we investigate the electrochemical performance of lithium terephthalate (LTA) battery using graphite coated metal current collector to overcome the disadvantages of organic batteries which is high interfacial resistance between current collector and electrode. The LTA anode material is synthesized by acid-based ion exchange reaction without impurities. The contact properties between stick-type LTA-based electrode and graphite coated current collector are estimated by the cross-section SEM and EIS. The graphite coated current collector significantly reduced the interfacial resistance of the LTA battery. The second discharge capacities of bare current collector LTA and graphite coated current collector LTA batteries are 107.6 mAh/g and 148.8 mAh/g at 0.1C, respectively. The graphite coated current collector LTA batteries show higher cycle life, higher discharge capacity, and higher rate-capability than bare LTA batteries.

Stretchable Current Collector Composing of DMSO-dopped Nano PEDOT:PSS Fibers for Stretchable Li-ion Batteries (신축성 리튬이온전지를 위한 DMSO 도핑 PEDOT:PSS 나노 섬유 집전체)

  • In order to decrease the weight of stretchable energy storage devices, interest in developing lightweight materials to replace metal current collectors is increasing. In this study, nanofibers prepared by electrospinning a conductive polymer, PEDOT:PSS, were used as current collectors for lithium ion batteries. The nanofiber showed improved electrical conductivity by using DMSO, a dopant, and indicated a stretch rate of 30% or more from the elasticity evaluation result. In addition, the use of the nanofiber current collector facilitates penetration of the liquid electrolyte and exhibits the effect of increasing the electronic conductivity through the nanofiber network. The lithium-ion battery using the DMSO-doped PEDOT:PSS@PAM nanofiber current collector indicated a high discharge capacity of 135mAh g-1, and indicated a high capacity retention rate of 73.5% after 1000 cycles. Thus, the excellent electrochemical stability and mechanical properties of conductive nanofibers showed that they can be used as lightweight current collectors for stretchable energy storage devices.

  • 최근 철도시스템 분야에서도 기존의 접촉식 가공 전차선 급전 방식을 벗어나 새로운 개념의 에너지 전송시스템으로써 무선급전시스템의 다양한 응용 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전자기 유도방식의 일종인 무선급전시스템을 철도차량에 적용시키기 위해 운전조건에 따른 특성 연구를 수행 하였다. 전력 전송의 효율을 높이기 위해 유도급집전체(IPT, Inductive Power Transformer)의 누설 자속(Leakage Flux)을 보상할 수 있는 6-kW 60-kHz 시제품(Laboratory Prototype)을 제작하여 급전체와 집전체간 위치 변화에 따른 무선급전시스템의 전력전송량 변화를 알아보았다. 또한. 급전체와 집전체간 위치 변화에 따라 변하는 누설 자속을 측정하고 운전주파수를 변경하여 무선급전시스템의 전력전송량의 변화를 알아보았다.

  • Graphite sheet electro-deposited with lead was evaluated as a possible candidate for current collectors of lead acid batteries. Cyclic voltammetry was performed on the materials to evaluate the electrochemical properties. The graphite sheet electro-deposited with lead is electrochemically stable in the cathodic potential sweep. However, in the anodic potential sweep, the graphite sheet electro-deposited with lead is electrochemically unstable due to the oxygen evolution and the intercalation of sulfuric acid. Lead acid batteries were prepared by using a graphite sheet and a cast grid as current collectors for anode and performance test using those batteries was carried out. A lead acid battery with graphite sheets showed higher capacity and energy density than a conventional lead acid battery with cast grid.

  • 본고에서는 전해동박의 개발 연혁, 제조 공정 및 주요 적용 사례에 대해 소개한다. 전해동박이 전자 소재에 적용되는 대표적인 사례는 Li 이차전지의 음극 집전체 및 인쇄회로기판의 회로이다. Mobile Device의 슬림화 및 다기능화에 따라 Li 이차전지의 용량 증대 및 인쇄회로기판의 협피치화가 필요하다. 따라서 Li 이차전지의 단위 부피당 용량 증대를 위해서는 음극 집전체로 적용되는 동박은 극박화 및 고강도 특성이 요구되고 있다. 인쇄회로기판의 협피치화에 따라 이들 제품에 적용되고 있는 동박은 두께 및 조도를 저감시키는 방향으로 기술이 전개되고 있다. 본고에서는 전자 소재용으로 적용되고 있는 전해 동박의 최근 제품 및 기술 동향과 향후 제품 전개 방향에 대해 논의하고자 한다.
