A Study on Statistical Parameters for the Evaluation of Regional Air Quality Modeling Results - Focused on Fine Dust Modeling - (지역규모 대기질 모델 결과 평가를 위한 통계 검증지표 활용 - 미세먼지 모델링을 중심으로 -)

  • We investigated statistical evaluation parameters for 3D meteorological and air quality models and selected several quantitative indicator references, and summarized the reference values of the statistical parameters for domestic air quality modeling researcher. The finally selected 9 statistical parameters are MB (Mean Bias), ME (Mean Error), MNB (Mean Normalized Bias Error), MNE (Mean Absolute Gross Error), RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), IOA (Index of Agreement), R (Correlation Coefficient), FE (Fractional Error), FB (Fractional Bias), and the associated reference values are summarized. The results showed that MB and ME have been widely used in evaluating the meteorological model output, and NMB and NME are most frequently used for air quality model results. In addition, discussed are the presentation diagrams such as Soccer Plot, Taylor diagram, and Q-Q (Quantile-Quantile) diagram. The current results from our study is expected to be effectively used as the statistical evaluation parameters suitable for situation in Korea considering various characteristics such as including the mountainous surface areas.

A Study on the Construction of Consulting Supervision Model and the Development of Evaluation Indicators in School Libraries (학교도서관컨설팅 장학 모형 구안 및 평가지표 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to construct the school library consulting supervision model and to develop the evaluation indicators of school libraries in Korea. Individual School library should contribute from school educational objectives to national level educational objectives. When school libraries have accountability, consulting supervision and evaluation for the school library education is needed. School library consulting supervision model was developed with seven components. School library evaluation index is proposed with seventy-two indicators in six categories. Results of the evaluation will be able to take advantage consulting supervision.

  • Modern agriculture depending on chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides gave rise to questions about long-term sustainability of agriculture in relation to degradation of soil quality. Improving soil quality is prerequisite to sustain biological productivity, maintain environmental quality, and promote plant and animal health. Assessment and monitoring of the health and quality of soil is necessary to provide opportunity to evaluate and redesign soil management system for sustainability. To develop the soil quality assessment method, we collected national data on soil properties of paddy and upland and attempted to evaluate the data in aspect of soil quality by the process of selecting a minimum data set (MDS), scoring the soil properties and calculating soil quality index (SQI) integrating the score of each soil property. This approximation indicated that soil quality index was in the order of paddy soil, upland soil and plastic film house soil.

  • The interest in performance evaluation of public R&D has been dramatically increased. Many tries have been made to measure and to evaluate the quality of research performance. Quantitative indicators are considered increasingly important for this purpose. The most widely used are the number of research articles, citations and Impact Factors. However, such indicators are strongly discipline-dependent, and hence they should be used with careful attention. In this study we tried to provide quantitative evidence on the latent problems of discipline-dependent indicators. We also tried to provide a set of quantitative indicators for evaluating publications as a result of research activities. We put our focus on the quantitative indicators reflecting the characteristics on disciplines and provided several indicators with guideline on their usage.

A Study on Development of Evaluation Indicators for Measuring Educational Value of Libraries (도서관의 교육적 가치 측정을 위한 평가지표 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to develop evaluation indicators for evaluating the educational value of libraries and, for this, frist of all, preliminary evaluation indicators were derived by analyzing comprehensively about 60 domestic and overseas papers which researched on the value of libraries. On the basis of the derived preliminary evaluation indicators, 10 experts were selected and the final evaluation indicators were developed by conducting Delphi survey three times. The final evaluation indicators are composed of five evaluation areas, which are the divided areas of the educational value of libraries, such as the literacy improvement, supporting of learning and education, research supporting and provision of information resources, improvement of educational environment and quality of education, strengthen competence, 13 evaluation items, and 62 evaluation indicators. In the future, it seems that researches to measure the educational value of libraries based on this will have to be conducted.

Research on Development of Social Value Evaluation Indicators for Public Libraries (공공도서관의 사회적 가치 평가지표 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to develop evaluation indicators for evaluating the social value of libraries and, for this, first of all, preliminary evaluation indicators were derived by analyzing comprehensively about 60 domestic and overseas papers which researched on the value of libraries. On the basis of the derived preliminary evaluation indicators, 11 experts were selected and the final evaluation indicators were developed by conducting Delphi survey three times. The final evaluation indicators are composed of five evaluation areas, which are the divided areas of the social value of libraries, such as the development of local communities, the linkage of local communities, the improvement of local residents' life quality, the equalization of local residents, and the information services necessary for local communities, 13 evaluation items, and 64 evaluation indicators. In the future, it seems that researches to measure the social value of libraries based on this will have to be conducted.

Quality Indicators of End-of-Life Cancer Care from the Family Members' Perspective in Korea (호스피스 임상 질 지표에 대한 보호자의 동의정도와 이와 관련된 인자)

  • Purpose: The Assessing Care Of Vulnerable Elders project has developed indicators for the quality of the end-of-life (EOL) care. However, family members of cancer patients may have a different view on the quality indicators (QIs) established by health care experts. We evaluated the QIs from the family members' perspective. Methods: The information used in this study was gathered by surveying family members of cancer patients who were admitted to the inpatient hospice ward in Korea. A cross-sectional anonymous questionnaire was distributed to 120 potential respondents from July to October 2009. We included 69 responses in this study (effective response rate, 57.5%). Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS for Win ver. 14.0, with independent t-test and Pearson's chi-square test. Results: Among QIs for good hospice care, families agreed the most on "Medical examination by the palliative care team or specialist" (88.4%) and "Dying in the family's presence" (88.4%). They agreed the least on "Discussing cardiopulmonary resuscitation with patients" (15.9%). Among QIs for bad hospice care, "Occurrence of fall or pressure ulcer are undesirable" showed the highest agreement rate (94.2%). The lowest agreement rate was 11.6% on "Dying in the hospital is undesirable." In addition, women, patients who were aware of their prognoses, and people with a high socioeconomic status tended to agree more on the QIs. Conclusion: Patients' families did not agree on some of the QIs recommended by previous studies. Family members' characteristics were related to their opinions on QIs.
