We have studied, by a nonisotopic in situ DNA end-labeling (ISEL) technique, frequency of apoptosis in the external granular layer (EGL) of the cerebellum after whole-body irradiation of newborn mice and intestinal crypt cell of adult mice by gamma-rays from $^{60}Co$. The extent of changes following 2 Gy(10.9 Gy/min) was studied at 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, or 24h after exposure. The maximal frequency was found 4-8h after exposure. The mice that received 0.18, 0.36, 0.54, 1.08, 1.98, or 3.96 Gy were examined 6h after irradiation. Measurements performed after irradiation showed a dose-related increase in apoptotic cells in each of the mice studied. The dose-response curves were analyzed by a linear-quadratic model; frequency(%) of apoptotic cell in the newborn mice cerebellum was ($13.49{\pm}1.175$)D+$(-1.52{\pm}0.334)D^2$+0.048($r^2=0.981$, D = dose in Gy) and frequency(number per crypt) of apoptotic cell in the intestinal crypt of adult mice was ($3.857{\pm}0.420$)D+$(-0.535{\pm}0.120)D^2$+0.155($r^2=0.952$, D = dose in Gy). It provides the basis required for a better understanding of results which will be obtained in any further studies for biological responses of radiation using newborn and adult mice.
In order to revive the ecological function of degraded rivers, a total restoration plan for riverbeds and riparians needs to be developed. Previous evaluations for rivers were mainly focused on the river's physical structures. Therefore, this research has developed indicators to evaluate a riparian restoration considering biodiversity. Through literature and previous cases review, 4 fields and 13 indicators are selected for the evaluation. Four fields are biodiversity, habitat diversity, connectivity and habitat functionality. In the biodiversity field, 4 indicators of the exuberant extent of herbaceous vegetation and their diversity, the exuberant extent of shrub and woody plants and their diversity, the number of plant communities and naturalized plants are included. Habitat diversity are comprised of 4 indicators of the longitudinal continuity of vegetation, the mixture of plant communities, the extent of plant type color fruit abundance and the distribution of vegetation. Connectivity includes 3 indicators of target distribution, the shore slope of low water channels and the extent of artificial embankment materials. Habitat functionality has 2 indicators of the status of food supply plants and the habitat functionality. The value weighting for the fields and indicators has been calculated based on the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. 50 experts were surveyed with quantifiable questionnaire, among them 43 experts have more than 10 yesrs experiences in the nature restoration field. The selected and weighted indicators have been tested to the 12 sections in Gap stream located in Daejeon. In conclusion, the indicators are feasible and the selected indicators could be used to establish the direction and objectives of riparian restoration.

Astrigent persimmon fruit resources have been used traditionally to treat different systemic diseases and acclaimed for various biological activities including hair growth. This study investigates the hair restoration efficacy of astrigent persimmon fruit extracts on genetically predisposed to balding pattern Black mice model. Water extract of astrigent persimmon fruit(10 mg/mouse/day) with standardized vehicle formulation, only vehicle and positive control minoxidil (2%) were applied daily until completion of two full hair growth generations. The changing pattern of hair growth were observed through two hair growth generations of C57BL/6 Black mice. The hair existing area and hair length was increased significantly (P > 0.001) in astrigent persimmon fruit treated mice than vehicle-treated control mice. Furthermore, histological assessment revealed that the number of hair follicles did not remarkably increase after astrigent persimmon fruit treatment in compare to control mice. Thus, our data revealed that the topical application of astrigent persimmon fruit may promote hair growth in nude mice by extend the hair existing area and increase hair length which is an indicator of prolong anagen phase.
Many organochlorine pesticides are persistent in the environment and have a tendency to bioaccumulate significantly through food chains. Aquatic environments are particularly more affected because the pesticides applied to agriculture systems are eventually carried into water bodies, through surface runoff, rivers, and groundwater flow. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of the coexistence of a heavy metal on the solubility enhancement of the two representative organochlorine pesticides, lindane and dieldrin, by humic acids. The solubility enhancement of pesticides by humic acid in a single system was compared with that in a binary system. The extent of solubility enhancement of lindane by humic acids was constant. while that of dieldrin by humic acids increased. Also, the solubility enhancement of dieldrin by humic acid with Pb decreased than that by humic acid without Pb.
In this research, analysis of UDP-glucose a precursor of ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) was established using a reversed phase system. One of key metabolite UDP-glucose was selected and its concentration changes was measured with the change of fermentation conditions. The effects of fermentation conditions with/without nitrogen source for cell growth on ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan production were dependent on the UDP-glucose concentration. The UDP-glucose was synthesized rapidly during cell exponential growth period and maintained high during ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan production period. The UDP-glucose concentration was higher for ${\beta}$-1.3-glucan production fermentor than that for cell growth fermentor. The ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan production was optimal at pH 5.5 and synthesis of ${\beta}$-1,3-glucan was greatest at pH 5.5.
Attenuated varicella-zoster virus (VZV) was propagated in human lung fibroblast (HLF) cells Among media tested in this work, DMEM was the best medium for the growth of HLF cells. Because HLF was a normal finite cell line, cell growth late was dependent on the age of HLF cells. When the population doubling level (PDL) was higher than 46, apoptosis of HLF cells started and cell growth rate decreased. The optimum temperature for the cell growth and virus propagation in the T-flask culture was $37^{\circ}C$. In a microcarrier culture system in which Cytodex-3 was used for the VZV propagation in spinner vessels, the yield of plaque forming cells was lower than that in the T-flask culture. The relatively high shear environment near microcarriers was thought to cause the low yield of VZV in the microcarrier culture system.
One of recent topics in the case of hepatits B virus(HVB) is the value of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) concentration as a prognostic maker. We developed uantitative method of rapid immunochromatographic assay(ICA) kit for HBsAg using computer image analysis (CIA) for the purpose of home diagnosis. uantitative ICA using CIA demonstrated integrated optical density(IOD) values proportional to log of reference HBsAg concentrations in the range of 2-200 ng/mL and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) demonstrated the same in the range of 0.1-100 ng/mL however the test results with sample sear showed the same concentration on both kits. Furthermore repeated tests with the same samples revealed that this quantitative ICA using CIA would be reproducible and coefficient of variation(CV) of the results was 1.38~6.30%.
Mushrooms growing spontaneously in the Juwangsan National Park were surveyed from April to October 2017 for supporting management of higher fungi and creating a bio-diversity database of the park. In total, two divisions, eight classes, 21 orders, 85 families, 225 genera, and 503 species were detected. Among them, 247 species belonged to order Agaricales, which occupied 48.8% of the population, followed by members of orders Polyporales and Russulales. The mushrooms were abundant in August, and an altitude of 300-400 m above sea level was optimal for their growth, such as those found at Sanguijigu, Deajeonsa, and Geodaeri semgoal areas. Furthermore, Macrolepiota procera and Sarcodon aspratus, which belong to criteria of climate change, were detected in this survey.
As the quality of life is being upgraded, the public complaints about noise and vibration from construction sites are growing. Despite the disputes over the blasting damage on aquatic lives in river, ocean, and aquarium near construction sites tend to increase, most of existing solutions or regulations on the damages caused by blasting are established for the damages on land. Although the estimated amount of damage is up to several millions of USD, there is no guideline for resolving the dispute related to the underwater vibration. This paper presents an example where the public grievance about the underwater noise was successfully resolved by elucidating the characteristics of underwater sound, deducing the correlations between ground vibration and underwater sound during blast, and predicting the underwater sound level during blasting from the ground vibration measured on the ground near an aquarium basin.

Cambodia is a typical country that a very famous tourist destination in South Asian regions, but water has some serious problems. As a public hygiene point of view, water problems in Cambodia can be roughly classified into two categories. A numbers of the report revealed that thermotolerant coliform(TTC) bacteria and arsenic(As) pollution representative species as a representative pollutant for surface water and ground water problems, respectively. In recent years, home water purifier systems for various filter systems including BSF(Bio-Sand Filter), MF and RO have been spread and adopted in rural areas. However, BSF and composite membrane processes are recognized as an undesirable and representative method due to unreliable efficiency, high cost and maintenance issues. In order to develop a small-scale ceramic filter as a home water purifier, the applicability of two types of gravity ceramic filter using clay and red soil in the part of the Northwest was made and compared in this research.
