An Analysis of the State Library Services in the United States (미국 주 도서관 서비스의 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the state library services in the United States in order to consider what services are needed for regional libraries in Korea. The data were collected from library statistics and library web pages. The analyses particularly focused on examining the residental service and library service of state libraries. The analyses revealed that the state libraries provide funds, services, and training to local libraries, but the service levels are varied among states. State libraries provide state historical information and genealogy information to residential users, and focus on the information needs for handicapped people. Based upon the analysis of U.S. state libraries, Korea regional libraries would provide services different from local public libraries. Also, regional libraries would be operated based upon the regional characteristics.

A Study on the Relationship between Health Food and Health-Related Factors by Residence and Sex in Tong-Yeong Area (거주지역 및 성에 따른 통영지역주민의 건강식품 이용실태 및 건강관련 제요인과의 관련성)

  • In order to investigate the relationship between intake conditions of health food and health-related factors by residence and sex in Tong-Young area, a survey was carried out from 1,303 adults. Health foods were classified 3 groups including vitamin and mineral supplements, toner foods and manufactured health food supplements. Health-related factors were stress, fatigue, smoking and drinking. The $29.5\%$ of the subjects had taken some health food for health. Especially the male took more toner foods habitually than the female did. In take of vitamin and mineral supplements by residence, there was a significant difference $(p\leq0.01)$ as follows. The subjects in island $(20.0\%)$ who took vitamin/mineral supplements were about two times as compared with the subjects in Dong $(10.8\%)$, or Eub-Myeon $(10.0\%)$. The subjects taking supplementary food replied over fair $(82.8\%)$, the subjects taking toner food replied over fair (90.3$\%$) scored higher than who replied bad or very bad in self-perceived health status. Therefore, the better the subjects felt self-perceived health status, the more they took health foods for health themselves. In self-perceived stress status, the subjects who replied a little $(50.0\%,\;45.3\%)$ or little $(19.9\%,\;26.4\%)$, took vitamin and mineral supplements or manufactured health foods a lot. In toner food there was a significant correlation $(p\leq0.05)$ as follows. The less the subjects felt stress, the more they took dietry supplement. No smoker $(12.9\%)$intake rate of vitamin and mineral supplements was higher than smoker $(8.8\%)$. Smokers $(6.5\%)$ intake rate of toner food was higher than no smoker $(4.0\%)$. It was not significant the relationship between intake condition of health food and drinking. The main motivation for taking health food were by self-decision and invitation of friends or neighbors.

  • 한국사회가 저출산 고령화와 고학력화의 추세, 전지구화, 지식정보화라는 세계적인 흐름을 고려할 때 앞으로도 향후 지속적인 이주인구의 유입은 불가피한 실정이다. 특히 결혼이민자들은 한국사회에서 적응하기 위한 언어와 문화적 적응을 극복하지 못한 상태에서 그들 자녀들을 교육해야 되는 열악한 환경적인 문제에 봉착하게 된다. 더구나 다문화가족 자녀는 2008년 5월을 기준으로 58,007명으로 전체 외국인 주민의 6.5%를 차지하며 다문화가족의 자녀 중 6세 이하가 57.1%로 상당히 높은 비율을 차지함을 고려해볼 때 현재 초 중등학생들을 대상으로 하는 연구는 시사점이 크다고 하겠다. 특히 전남지역의 다문화가족은 전국 최고의 비율을 차지하고 있으며 총 5,919 가족 중 영유아기와 학령기에 포함되어 있는 다문화가족 자녀 재학생수는 1,479명으로 집계되고 있다(행정안전부, 2008). 이렇게 교육대상자로서 점점 증가하고 있는 다문화가족의 학생들이 전남지역에 상당수 집중되어 있다. 이렇게 유입되는 이주자 중 결혼이민으로 인한 그 자녀의 자아존중감과 학교생활적응은 주요한 사회문제로 대두되고 있다. 그간의 연구들의 대부분은 이주여성의 생활실태와 일상에서 겪는 다양한 문제점에 초점을 맞추고 있을 뿐 그들 가정의 자녀들에 대한 연구는 미흡한 편이다. 이 연구는 2차 사회화 과정에 결정적인 영향을 미치는 학교생활에서 다문화가족 학생들의 자아존중감과 학교생활적응에 관하여 전남 동부지역 일부를 초 중등교사들을 대상으로 어떻게 인지하고 있는지를 연구하였다. 연구방법은 교사들을 대상으로 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 인구학적 특성, 다문화가족 학생들의 자아존중감 및 학교생활적응 관련 인식들을 조사하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS Win 12.0을 사용하여 빈도분석, t-test 및 일원배치 분산분석을 실시하였다. 교사의 성별, 학교급 별, 농촌과 도시지역, 학교규모, 학년, 교육경력에 따라 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Research on the Consciousness of Disaster Prevention to Analyze Disaster Characteristics of Gangwon Province (강원도 재난특성 분석을 위한 방재의식 조사)

  • The present study surveyed 750 graduate and undergraduate students who were living or not living in Gangwon province concerning the characteristics of disasters in Gangwon province, people's consciousness of disaster prevention, etc. According to the results of analysis, all the respondents thought that the possibility of disasters is higher in Gangwon province(74.0%) than in any other province. Compared to non-residents, Gangwon province residents tended to perceive that the possibility of storm and flood disasters and forest fires is high in Gangwon province. As to reasons for frequent disasters in Gangwon province, the respondents mentioned disadvantageous natural conditions, the shortage of disaster prevention facilities and local residents' low consciousness of disaster prevention. As to methods for enhancing people's consciousness of disaster prevention in Gangwon province, they considered essential the expansion of disaster prevention facilities and education on disaster prevention. In particular, 62.1% of the respondents did not have experiences in disaster education. This suggests the necessity for extending disaster education.

  • 우리나라의 비만아동의 문제는 이미 그 규모와 분포 면에서 미국이나 유럽아동에 못지 않은 심각한 수준에 이르고 있다. 아동비만은 청소년기 비만, 장년기 비만으로 이어지며, 이는 곧 만성퇴행성 질환으로 이어지는 보건영양문제로서 그대로 방치할 것이 아니라 교육이나 건강행위실천을 통해 미리 적극적으로 예방해야 하는 문제이다. 또한 비만아동에게는 자신감 상실, 우울증, 부정적 자기 신체상 등과 같은 사회 정서적 문제들이 나타날 수 있으므로 몸과 마음이 모두 건강한 국민 체력향상 차원과 국가 경제의 안정을 도모하는 차원에서 비만 아동을 적극적으로 관리해야 할 필요가 있다. A Study on the Differences in Environmental Perceptions of the Interest Groups in the Protected Areas: Focused on Seoraksan National Park (보호지역 이해집단간 환경의식 차이에 관한 연구 -설악산 국립공원을 중심으로-)

  • This study, as a case where the environmental conflict and dispute arose between the use and the conservation as in the other protected areas in Korea, took the first step to build ecological citizenship to solve various and complicated issues in a fundamental level by providing a basic information on differentiated environmental perceptions of the locality and the visitors of Seoraksan National Park. The questionnaire survey was employed on September 6th and 7th with 150 residents of the park area and 200 visitors of Osaek-Daechungbong trail. Total number of 13 survey questions was introduced using Dunlap and Liere's NEP index. The result shows that the perception of 'balance of nature' was more dominant to the perception of 'humans over nature' and the perception to the 'limits to growth' was also somewhat positive in both groups. The differences in environmental perceptions between the groups exist; the visitor group tended to have more positive level of acceptance of NEP views. Such differences in perceptions suggest that a different normative approach should be taken to the residents of the national park with less pro-environment in their perceptions when policy making. It thus seemed possible that ecological citizenship could be realized since the younger and the higher education level are, the more pro-environment. The findings of the research may cause some concerns however, because the study has been confined as a case study with basic understanding of environmental perceptions and its differences between the interest groups. More extensive research is required to confirm if this is generalized.

  • Kerala, a southern-west state of India, has been vigorously studied due to its unique development status. Indeed, Kerala shows such a high level of social development as Human Development Index indicates, yet it is suffering from the low level of economic. As a result, scholars have examined a broad range of rationales to understand the 'Kerala Development Model' as discussing historical contexts, social welfare policies, land reforms by Communist Party of India, and so on. Among them, scholars agree that education is one of the most critical factors that led to social development of Kerala. Despite the consensus, there has been lack of research that deeply look into how education has been delivered, what impacts it has on people, and why it contributes to social development in Kerala. This research, thus, would discuss the meanings, values and impacts of education with the capability approach that is originally termed by Amartya Sen. The approach criticize the dominant paradigm of 'development' that is materialistic oriented, instead it emphasizes expanding a range of capabilities of people to reach 'development' that people can act upon what they value and cherish. Based on Sen's perspective, we believe that dimensions of education can be re-defined and expanded in a relation to development.

A Study on the Establishment of Basic Policy for the Operation of Sejong City Library (세종시립도서관의 운영 기본 정책 수립에 관한 연구)

  • This study was a basic study for the establishment of basic policies for the operation of Sejong City Library. It was intended to establish and operate the functions and roles of Sejong City Library by conducting a general survey on the current status, user demand, expert opinion, and librarian opinion survey. As a result, the Sejong City Library is the representative library of Sejong Special Self-Governing City, which oversees all public and small libraries in Sejong Special Self-Governing City and carries out support and cooperation projects, and should improve the development of the local community and the quality of life of local residents by providing more convenient and equal access to provide information services and cultural programs. Second, apart from providing library services to local residents in Sejong Special Self-Governing City, the functions of the Sejong Special Self-Governing City's representative library and hub library, knowledge and information center, lifelong education center, social and cultural center, leisure culture center, leisure and convenience center, and furthermore, it should function as a policy information support center. Finally, in order to enhance the brand value of Sejong City Library, the Sejong City Library as a landmark in Sejong area, the Sejong City Library as an art and cultural hub in Sejong area, the Sejong City Library as a complex cultural space in Sejong area, and the Sejong City Library as a center for Sejong Studies were proposed.

A Study about Assessment on Operation Program of Local Festivals (향토지역축제 운영프로그램 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims at assessment of local festivals focused on analysis of operation program for local festivals held in Jeonbuk province. The subjects were 65 local festivals held in Jeonbuk in 2010 excluding festivals held in province, county, and town level, and those held with single purpose. Type of festivals were classified to type for residents' unity, tourism, industry, and special purpose type. The portion was industry type 36.9%, type for residents' unity 23.1% in the order. By theme, animal, plant, nature phenomenon, history, culture and tradition, special product, regional industry were classified - the portion was special product 36.9%, culture and tradition 24.6%, history 13.8%. Assessment of operation program was conducted with assessment indexes such as compliance with theme, uniqueness, diversity, effect of experience, size, educational effect, and entertainment. As a result, it appeared that because local festivals of Jeonbuk had high uniqueness, duplication of program between local festivals was very low and educational effect was comparatively high. On the other hand, because entertainment and effect of experience was very low, considerations of entertainment and effect of experience are necessary in planning of program.

  • Regional central library have to reflect the characteristics of the each region. And it must to set priority the various tasks. The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the librarian's recognition about roles of regional central library for support to the local libraries. As a result, librarians was recognized the direction of library policy and cooperation between the local libraries as the most urgent task. Also, librarians was considered the educational and cultural programs and interlibrary loan as the top task to perform in the future. The results is very useful in deciding contents of library cooperation and establishing of the Library Policy.
