Estimation of Near Surface Air Temperature Using MODIS Land Surface Temperature Data and Geostatistics (MODIS 지표면 온도 자료와 지구통계기법을 이용한 지상 기온 추정)

  • Near surface air temperature data which are one of the essential factors in hydrology, meteorology and climatology, have drawn a substantial amount of attention from various academic domains and societies. Meteorological observations, however, have high spatio-temporal constraints with the limits in the number and distribution over the earth surface. To overcome such limits, many studies have sought to estimate the near surface air temperature from satellite image data at a regional or continental scale with simple regression methods. Alternatively, we applied various Kriging methods such as ordinary Kriging, universal Kriging, Cokriging, Regression Kriging in search of an optimal estimation method based on near surface air temperature data observed from automatic weather stations (AWS) in South Korea throughout 2010 (365 days) and MODIS land surface temperature (LST) data (MOD11A1, 365 images). Due to high spatial heterogeneity, auxiliary data have been also analyzed such as land cover, DEM (digital elevation model) to consider factors that can affect near surface air temperature. Prior to the main estimation, we calculated root mean square error (RMSE) of temperature differences from the 365-days LST and AWS data by season and landcover. The results show that the coefficient of variation (CV) of RMSE by season is 0.86, but the equivalent value of CV by landcover is 0.00746. Seasonal differences between LST and AWS data were greater than that those by landcover. Seasonal RMSE was the lowest in winter (3.72). The results from a linear regression analysis for examining the relationship among AWS, LST, and auxiliary data show that the coefficient of determination was the highest in winter (0.818) but the lowest in summer (0.078), thereby indicating a significant level of seasonal variation. Based on these results, we utilized a variety of Kriging techniques to estimate the surface temperature. The results of cross-validation in each Kriging model show that the measure of model accuracy was 1.71, 1.71, 1.848, and 1.630 for universal Kriging, ordinary Kriging, cokriging, and regression Kriging, respectively. The estimates from regression Kriging thus proved to be the most accurate among the Kriging methods compared.

  • Land Surface Temperature (LST) retrieved from Landsat 8 measured from 2013 to 2014 and it is corrected by surface temperature observed from ground. LST maps are retrieved from Landsat 8 calculate using the linear regression function between raw Landsat 8 LST and ground surface temperature. Seasonal and annual LST maps developed an average LST from season to annual, respectively. While the higher LSTs distribute on the industrial and commercial area in urban, lower LSTs locate in surrounding rural, sea, river and high altitude mountain area over Seoul and surrounding area. In order to correct the LST, linear regression function calculate between Landsat 8 LST and ground surface temperature observed 3 Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) synoptic stations (Seoul(ID: 108), Incheon(ID: 112) and Suwon(ID: 119)) on the Seoul and surrounding area. The slopes of regression function are 0.78 with all data and 0.88 with clear sky except 5 cloudy pixel data. And the original Landsat 8 LST have a correlation coefficient with 0.88 and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) with $5.33^{\circ}C$. After LST correction, the LST have correlation coefficient with 0.98 and RMSE with $2.34^{\circ}C$ and the slope of regression equation improve the 0.95. Seasonal and annual LST maps represent from urban to rural area and from commercial to industrial region clearly. As a result, the Landsat 8 LST is more similar to the real state when corrected by surface temperature observed ground.

이방성 무기 투과막의 구조 및 투과 특성

  • 무기 분말과 고분자 용액을 함께 습식방사하여 제조된 중공사를 소결하여 이방성 구조를 갖는 Alumina 와 Alumina/Silica 중공사막을 제조 하였다. 중공사 제조 용액의 조성과 소결 온도에 따른 다공성 지지체막의 기공도 및 미세구조를 Mercury Porosimeter와 Surface Analyzer(Autosorb-1)를 이용하여 살펴 보았다. 무기 분말(Alumina, Silica)이 충진된 고분자 용액의 적정한 조성에 따라 소결 후에도 이방성 구조를 유지할 수 있었고 방사 조건에 따라서도 양쪽지상구조, 한쪽지상구조, 또는 망사구조를 가지고 있으며 제조시 소결 온도에 따라 기체 투과도가 감소 하였다. 다공도는 소결 온도가 증가함에 따라 급격히 줄어들고 있으나 평균 기공의 크기는 약간 증가 하였다. 전체적으로 투과 실험 조건하에서 기체 투과가 knudsen flow 특성을 나타내었다.

Comparison of Surface and Air Temperature depending on Cover Materials in Playground (운동장의 피복 유형별 표면 및 대기온도 비교)

  • Playground is frequently used for physical and sports activity by students as well as by common people, which is constructed with various cover materials on the ground. This research surveyed the surface temperature in Kyungpook National University Sangju campus playground which is covered with various cover materials [bare field, zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica) turf field, urethane track, concrete field, epoxy field and artificial turf field] in Sangju, Gyeongsangbukdo, Korea. Temperature was measured 4 times per day at 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00 from May to October 2014 in surface and 1 m height above the ground. Surface temperature was different, depending on cover materials and survey time. Bare field and zoysiagrass turf field was lower surface temperature than other sites. Higher surface temperature site was different depending on survey time. Urethane track and artificial turf field was hotter than other sites at 12 and 15 hours, however concrete and epoxy field was hot at 18 hours. One meter above ground temperature was the highest in artificial turf field except at 18 hours. So natural turf, zoysiagrass playground will increase the athletic performance by reduce the surface and above ground temperature.

  • Temperature and velocity controlling of air at inlet position of Ramjet combustor is important under Ramjet engine grounding-test condition since temperature of inlet air increases due to compression process by supersonic flow at inlet position of Ramjet combustor. In this study, Vitiated Air Heater methodology was used to control temperature of air that is inducted into Ramjet combustor. Temperature and velocity of air at Vitiated air heater exit, which is inducted into Ramjet combustor, were measured to evaluate Vitiated air heater system developed in this study. It is shown that temperature and velocity of inducted air can be well controlled using Vitiated air heater system developed in this study, and we could make a Vitiated Air which is almost same with real air.

  • The Mesopause (85km) is the boundary between the Mesosphere and the Thermosphere and is very interesting region because there are active fluid dynamic motions and airglow phenomena due to various chemical reactions. But there have been not many studies due to the difficulties of insitu measurement. However in this study we have obtained the Doppler temperatures and winds through the observing Hydroxyl(OH) emission at 843nm using a ground-based Fabry-Perot interferometer. Due to the 2 years of long term observation, we can confirm the seasonal Mesopause temperature variation, which is the opposite trend against the temperature at the ground level, and reveal annual and biannual variations for meridional and zonal wind respectively. These seasonal variations might be the result of the inter-hemispheric circulation.

  • Ground station in lunar mission is responsible to receive telemetry signal including sensor data from lunar orbiter and/or lander. At preliminary stage of developing this ground station, receiving performance such as antenna size and noise temperature should be designed on the basis of link budget analysis. When the antenna of ground station is pointing to the moon to communicate with lunar orbiter and/or lander, noise level is supposed to be increasing due to the lunar flux density. It means that the moon is working as a noise source to degrade receiving performance when antenna is pointing to the moon. Antenna noise temperature contributed by the moon was firstly calculated and secondary validated by using test configuration in this paper. Consequently, it was shown that antenna noise temperature caused by the moon was quietly matched with measured one and G/T degradation of receiving system in lunar mission can be calculated depending on antenna size and frequency.

  • 최근 복원된 청계천의 야간경간조명은 야간에 도심의 새로운 미관을 창출함으로써, 5.8Km에 이르는 체계적인 야간경관을 시각적으로 체험할 수 있는 공간의 역할을 하고 있다. 그러나 야간에 청계천의 수변산책로를 이용하는 사람에게는 문화유산, 휴식공간, 22개의 교량, 자연환경뿐만 아니라 지상건물이 시야 내에 존재한다. 특히 청계천 지상도로의 남북측면에 위치한 기존의 건물들은 청계천 복원과 관계없이 대부분 기존에 설치된 옥외조명을 사용하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 청계천 수변공간 산책시 사람의 시야내에 나타나는 지상건물의 조명환경특성을 분석하여 청계천변 조명과의 통합된 이미지가 연출되는지의 여부를 분석하는 것이 연구목적이다. 이를 위하여 지상에 위치하고 있는 건물을 대체적인 용도에 따라 오피스지역, 상업지역, 주거지역 등 3개 지역으로 구분하여 이 지역에 쥐치한 대표적인 지상건물 표면의 휘도, 색온도, 색도를 측정하여 분석하였다. 조명학적 물리량을 분석한 결과, 지상에 위치한 건물들이 산책로를 이용하는 사람들의 시각환경에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고 경관조명요소로서 지상건물의 조명환경을 적절히 보완해야 할 필요성이 나타났다.

Comparisons of Collection 5 and 6 Aqua MODIS07_L2 air and Dew Temperature Products with Ground-Based Observation Dataset (Collection 5와 Collection 6 Aqua MODIS07_L2 기온과 이슬점온도 산출물간의 비교 및 지상 관측 자료와의 비교)

  • Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) provides air temperature (Tair) and dew point temperature (Tdew) profiles at a spatial resolution of 5 km. New Collection 6 (C006) MODIS07_L2 atmospheric profile product has been produced since 2012. The Collection 6 algorithm has several modifications from the previous Collection 5 (C005) algorithm. This study evaluated reliabilities of two alternative datasets of surface-level Tair and Tdew derived from C005 and C006 Aqua MODIS07_L2 (MYD07_L2) products using ground measured temperatures from 77 National Weather Stations (NWS). Saturated and actual vapor pressures were calculated using MYD07_L2 Tair and Tdew. The C006 Tair showed lower mean error (ME, -0.76 K) and root mean square error (RMSE, 3.34 K) than the C005 Tair (ME = -1.89 K, RMSE = 4.06 K). In contrasts, ME and RMSE of C006 Tdew were higher than those (ME = -0.39 K, RMSE = 5.65 K) of C005 product. Application of ambient lapse rate for Tair showed appreciable improvements of estimation accuracy for both of C005 and C006, though this modification slightly increased errors in C006 Tdew. The C006 products provided better estimation of vapor pressure datasets than the C005-derived vapor pressure. Our results indicate that, except for Tdew, C006 MYD07_L2 product showed better reliability for the region of South Korea than the C005 products.
