Development of Traffic Accident Rate to Improve the Reliability of the Valuation of Accident Costs Savings on National Highways (국도 사고비용 산정의 신뢰도 향상을 위한 사고원단위 개선)

  • The accident rate in South Korea is simply classified according to the road type and the number of lanes, but other countries apply various factors affect accidents. In this study, national highways where accidents occurred were divided into urban, rural, older, and modern roads using TAAS(Traffic Accident Analysis System) data, and a model of accident costs savings is suggested. As a result of analyzing 1,416.2 km, the fatality rate(person/100mil-vehicle·km) was 4.21 for urban-older, 1.37 for urban-modern, 2.18 for rural-older, and 0.99 for rural-modern roads. The rates of urban roads had a higher result than rural. The injury rate(person/100mil-vehicle·km) for urban-older was 182.63, that for urban-modern was 103.42, that for rural-older was 67.44, and that for rural-modern road was 42.96, which showed a similar pattern to fatality rates. Accident rates of a modern road were much lower than the KDI Guideline. The benefit of applying the result of this study was calculated and the valuation of accident costs savings is increased from 0.6% to 14.1%, while B/C is improved from 0.626 to 0.724.

  • 도시부 교차로의 설계는 지방부 교차로와 근본적으로 달라야 하나, 현행 도시부 교차로 설계는 지방부 교차로 설계기준을 준용하고 있다. 본 연구는 도시부 및 지방부 교차로의 차이점을 비교 분석하고, 국내외 교차로 종단경사 설계기준을 검토한 후 적정 설계기준(안)을 적용한 후, 이를 통계적 분석기법을 활용하여 검증하여 설계기준을 정립하는 순으로 진행 하였다. 분석결과 정면충돌사고율과 차대차추돌사고율이 종단경사와 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구를 통해 적정 교차로 종단경사를 적용한 설계가 이루어져야 함을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Red Light Violations Analysis Using Statistical Methods - in case of Chungbuk 4-Legged Signalized Intersections - (통계적기법을 이용한 신호위반 분석(충청북도 4지 신호교차로를 중심으로))

  • This case study investigated red light violations at CBD, suburban and rural signalized intersections in chungbuk. The goal of this study is to understanding the collection between red light violations and various driver, vehicles and environmental factors. This study uses descriptive statistics analysis and logistics analysis with SPSS 12.0 software. The major results of this study are as follows. First, red light violations occurred at rural and CBD more than suburban area. Second, About 81.1% of the violators were traveling at or below the posted speed limit. Moreover, 77.3% of the violations occurred within 2 seconds after the on set of red light. Finally, the logistic regression model, which is statistically significant(chisquare=0.000, McFadde=0.265)was developed, and includes the local type(CBD/suburban/rural), violators' gender, season, vehicle type, time of day, vehicle speed as the independent variables. In this study did not find significant relationship between red light violators' age and their driving behavior approaching signalized intersections.

  • The purposes of this study are to analyze the characteristics and to develop the models of traffic accidents. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attentions to developing the models(multiple linear, poisson and negative binomial regression) using the data of Cheongju and Cheongwon signalized intersections. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, the accident characteristics of rural area were defined by factor. Second, 4 accident models which are all statistically significant were developed. Finally, such the variables as $X_2$ and $X_{11}$ were evaluated to be specific variables which reflect the characteristics of rural area.

  • Generally, traffic accidents can be influenced by variables driving conditions including geometric, roadside design, and traffic conditions. Under the circumstance, homogeneous roadway segments were firstly identified using typical geometric variables obtained from field data collections in this study. These field data collections were conducted at highways located in several areas having various regional conditions for examples, outside metropolitan city; level and rolling rural areas. Due to many zero cells in crash database, a Zero Inflated Poisson model was used to develop crash prediction model to overestimated results in this study. It was found that EXPO, radius, grade, guardrail, mountainous terrain, crosswalk and bus-stop have statistically significant influence on vehicle to vehicle crashes at rural multi-lane roadway segments.

Lipomatous Tumors in Hand (수부에 발생한 지방종성 종양)

  • Purpose: Lipomatous tumor occurred in hand is very rare. There is a broad spectrum of lipomatous tumors including lipomas, variants of lipomas, lipomatosis, liposarcomas and so on. We report the clinical features of 11 cases of lipomatous tumor which occurred in hand. Materials and Methods: Between 1992 and 2008, 11 cases were histologically diagnosed as lipomatous tumor in hand. We reviewed all medical records and clinical photographs retrospectively and ascertained recurrence by telephone interview. Results: Eight cases were ordinary lipomas. Three cases were angiolipoma, fibrolipoma and atypical lipoma respectively. Four cases occurred in finger, two cases in thenar area, two cases in hypothenar area, one case in palm, two cases in wrist. All cases were situated on volar surface. All patients complained of palpable masses. One patient with subungal angiolipoma felt pain. There was no neurologic sign or vascular symptom preoperatively. In one case, postoperative complication (hypoesthesia in $5^{th}$ finger) was developed. There was no local recurrence. Conclusion: In our study, lipomatous tumors occurred in hand did not recur. Patients mainly complained of feeling of lump. Pain was uncommon symptom. Postoperative complication was rare if operation was performed carefully.

Determining Priority of the Bikeway Construction in Rural National Highway (지방부 자전거도로 사업우선순위 선정 방법론에 관한 연구)

  • Because people are gradually interested in bicycles, central and local governments provide many efforts for expanding bikeway plans and utilization. However, most domestic bicycle plans have been established for the urban and leisure. This research is focused on developing the evaluation method to give the priority order for the investment of rural community bicycle roads. For the methodology development, the planning hierarchy and indicator framework are proposed in this paper. In order to decide the weighting value for indicators, a questionnaire survey to transportation experts was conducted. Moreover, the coefficient for social and spatial equity was applied to consider the balance of regional development. The evaluation was applied to a pilot corridor comprised of a 160km section of national highway in korea. This methodology provides a new tool to decide priority order for the investment of bicycle facilities.

Analysis of Provincial road in National Highway Average Speed Variation According to Rainfall Intensity (강우 강도에 따른 일반국도 지방부 도로의 평균속도 변화 분석)

  • Weather condition has effect on traffic condition, but there is a lack of research between weather and traffic condition. So, in this study analyzes speed variation according to rainfall intensity in national highway provincial road. The results of the analysis, average speed is reduced about 3.2%. But average speed decrease by maximum 8.8% when traffic volume is below 200vph per direction. Because relatively, free flow traffic speed has greatly deceased according to rainfall intensity in provincial road. Also in this study estimates of speed reduction model according to rainfall and performs the statistical verification. Estimated speed reduction model's slops are gradual when rainfall increased, because average speed is reduced by rainfall when free flow.

  • Crude fiber, ash and crude fat in various parts of root had highly significant correlation each other. In shoot, crude fiber showed highly significant negative correlation with crude fat or crude protein which were in highly significant positive correlation each other. In whole plant, crude fiber and ash, crude fat and crude protein, Mn and Cu, ash and Ca, and ash and B showed positive correlation respectively and negative between crude protein and crude fiber. Ash, crude fat and curde fiber showed highly significant positive correlation with all mineral nutrients in root while in shoot pairs haying significant correlation were less and most of these were in negative correlation. Ash with Mg, K or Cu, crude fat with B, crude fiber with Cu, K, Mg in root and crude fat with Mn in shoot were specially high significant pairs. Ash with B and crude fat with Mn were significant in root, shoot and whole plant. Saponin contents in root showed highly significant positive correlation with crude fiber, crude fat, ash and with all other mineral nutrients except N, P, Mg while, in shoot, it showed, negative correlation with K and crude fiber, ana positive with N, Mn, Cu, and crude fat. Saponin showed positive correlation with crude fat, Mn, Cu, in root, shoot and whole plant.
