Prevalence of Canine Giardiasis in the Daejeon and Chungnam Area (대전·충남지역 개에서 지알디아증 유병률)

  • A total number of 100 fecal samples were examined for the presence of Giardia intestinalis infection in dogs using a Giardia ELISA kit (SNAP$^{(R)}$ test, IDEXX Laboratories, Inc., Westbrook, ME). 49 males and 51 females were examined for a G. intestinalis infection in Daejeon and Chungnam area of South Korea. The overall positive rate of G. intestinalis infection was 12.00%. G. intestinalis infection resulted to be more prevalent in males (12.24%) than in females (11.76%), and in symptomatic dogs (18.18%) than in asymptomatic dogs (11.54%). There were no significant differences between the two groups. 19.60% being found in the < 2-year-old group, 4.08% in the over 2 year-old group. $X^2$ analysis revealed a significantly higher prevalence (p < 0.05) in the < 2-year-old group than in the other, and a significantly higher prevalence in dogs kept in a shared kennel (36.00%, p < 0.001). This study is the first survey of G. intestinalis infection prevalence in South Korea according to life style (particularly between dogs kept in a shared kennel and that of dogs kept separately) using an ELISA kit, and this study is expected to provide a useful reference for clinicians and breeders.

  • 자동차의 발전과 함께 유지 보수를 위한 사용자의 요구는 급증하고 있으나 정비사의 부족으로 인해 경제성 및 신속성 등 이 문제가 되고 있고 이를 해결하기 위해 현재 개발되고 있는 장치들은 대부분 전자 제어 유닛에서 발생시키는 신호를 분석하거나 운전자와의 대화를 통하여 진단하는 방식으로 고장으로 인한 소음이나 진동등 운전자들의 주관적인 평가대상에 대해서는 적절한 해결책으로 제시해 주지 못하고 있다. 그러므로 계측에 의한 소음과 진동 데이터를 이용하여 전문가의 판단을 가지고 고장의 원인을 규명하며 운전자를 위한 오디오적인 표현을 해 줄 수 있는 진단 전문가 시스템이 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 자동차의 여러 단품중 쇼크 옵서버와 에어컨에 대하여 소음 진동 현상의 정상 및 이상 증상과 신호 계측 방법을 연구하였고 계측된 신호에 대해 패턴 화하여 인공 신경 회로망과 퍼지 추론을 통한 진단을 할 수 있는 알고리즘을 개발하였으며 차후 계속되는 연구에 사용될 정상 및 이상신호에 대한 기본적인 데이터 베이스를 구축하였다.

  • 최근 한국인의 주요 사망원인 중 하나로 부정맥이 부각되고 있다. 심방조기수축(PAC:Premature Atrial Contraction)은 심방이 동방결절의 명령이 있기 전에 수축해 버리는 것이다. 심방조기수축은 일시적으로 유발하였다 사라지곤 할 수 있기 때문에 심한 증상이 없다면 생명에 위협을 가하진 않지만 반대의 경우에는 위험할 수 있다. 따라서 비정상적인 심장 박동이 발생하면 이를 검출하여 조기에 부정맥을 진단할 수 있는 방법이 필요하다. 이를 위해 대상의 ECG 신호로부터 QRS패턴에 해당하는 특징들을 추출하였고 특징들을 이용하여 심방조기수축 파형을 분류한다. 오류 역전파 기반으로 특징들을 훈련하며 가중치와 바이어스값을 구한뒤 이를 이용하여 정상파형과 심방조기수축 파형을 분류한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 만성질환을 갖고 있으면서도 일상생활을 하고 있는 만성질환 환자의 응급상황에 대비할 수 있는 u-Health 시스템 구축에 대하여 논한다. USN과 전자청진기, GPS, CDMA 그리고 RFID로 구성된 PHC(Personal Health Care) 장치에 의해 환자의 위급상황이 감지되면 위치정보를 포함한 문자메시지를 병원과 보호자의 모바일 단말기로 전송하여 즉각 대처할 수 있도록 한다. 특히 유비쿼터스 센서로 구성된 기울기/가속도 센서와 진동센서로 부터 수신되는 신호패턴을 분석하여 기절현상 또는 발작 증상과 같은 응급상황 여부를 판단한다. 이 시스템을 항상 주의가 필요한 만성질환자에게 적용시킴으로써 응급 상황에 신속히 대처하여 귀중한 생명을 구할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Trilogy of Fallot in a Dog (개에서 발생한 팔로삼징)

  • A 3 years-old female mixed dog (weighing 5.3 kg) was referred to veterinary teaching hospital of Kangwon National University with primary complaints of syncope, severe exercise intolerance, depression and lethargy. Diagnostic studies revealed polycythemia, right sided cardiac enlargement on thoracic radiography and right-to left atrial septal defect, severe pulmonary stenosis (~5 m/s of peak velocity) and right ventricular hypertrophy. Based on diagnostic findings, the dog was diagnosed as trilogy of Fallot. To improve clinical condition of this dog, diltiazem and enalapril were prescribed with weekly phlebotomy. To author's best knowledge, this is the first case of trilogy of Fallot in Korea.

  • Modern industrial society demands socially-prescribed perfectionism from office workers and causes self-discrepancy. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to propose a counseling strategy that integrates the divided self based on Fairbairn's psychological structure and reduces self-discrepancy by changing interpersonal relation patterns. 14 sessions were conducted once a week from March 2022 to July 2022. T-test was used as a research method to compare the level of self discrepancy by conducting the Self Questionnaire before and after. During the initial stage, the client was in conflict with his boss and showed anger, depression, somatic symptoms such as gastrointestinal disorder, strict judgement on himself and others, and high self-discrepancy. This research showed that the client's libidinal ego and anti-libidinal ego were de-repressed and integrated into his central ego, and his self-discrepancy level was decreased, which was confirmed through the pre-post test. This research, as a case study applying Fairbairn's psychological structure, has a meaning that it confirmed a change in the interpersonal relation patterns of a socially-prescribed perfectionistic client.

Rotating Shift and Daytime Fixed Work Schedules as a Risk Factor for Depression in Korean Police Officers (순환교대근무와 주간고정근무 경찰공무원의 우울감에 미치는 요인에 대한 연구)

  • Objectives: Working at other times than the regular day shift has been reported to be a stressor associated with health consequences and mental disorders as well as disturbance of sleep. In current study, we aimed at investigating the relationship between work schedule, sleep quality and depression among police officers. Methods: Eleven hundreds and forty five police officers (male: 1040, female: 105) completed questionnaires of basic socio-demographic data, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Korean Scale of Occupational Stress (KOSS), Impact of Event Scale - Revised (IES-R) and Center for Epidemiologic Study-Depression (CES-D). Results: After controlling for age, sex and educational level, score of CES-D was correlated positively with the score of KOSS, PSQI and IES-R on partial correlation analysis (r=-0.077; p=0.009, r=0.262; p<0.000 and r=0.421, p<0.000, respectively). Logistic regression analysis revealed that female sex, age, the score of KOSS and IES-R and schedule of rotating shift work predicted higher score than 16 score of CES-D significantly in total subjects (p=0.023, p=0.015, p=0.000, p=0.000 and p=0.022, respectively). Conclusion: Current result suggested that not only female sex, age, higher occupational stress and impact of event scale but also rotating shift work schedule might be related to depression among police officers.

  • Histopathologic evidence of "full-house" immune complex deposits is a pathognomonic feature of lupus nephritis. This report presents the case of a 12-year-old boy with persistent microscopic hematuria and proteinuria. He was diagnosed with "full-house" nephropathy based on a renal biopsy. However, there was no other clinical or biological evidence of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Although the potential for isolated "full-house" nephropathy preceding SLE is unclear, such patients should be followed for clinical signs and autoantibodies of SLE. In most cases, microscopic hematuria has a good prognosis, and follow-up usually requires only regular urinalysis. However, we should be aware of isolated "full-house" nephropathy that remains asymptomatic for a long time, as few patients with no clinical signs and negative serology ultimately develop SLE.

  • We propose a novel method to detect abnormal data of specific symptoms using deep learning in air pollution measurement system. Existing methods generally detect abnomal data by classifying data showing unusual patterns different from the existing time series data. However, these approaches have limitations in detecting specific symptoms. In this paper, we use DeepLab V3+ model mainly used for foreground segmentation of images, whose structure has been changed to handle one-dimensional data. Instead of images, the model receives time-series data from multiple sensors and can detect data showing specific symptoms. In addition, we improve model's performance by reducing the complexity of noisy form time series data by using 'piecewise aggregation approximation'. Through the experimental results, it can be confirmed that anomaly data detection can be performed successfully.

  • The aim of this study is to determine the effect of motion sickness on pupil rhythm. Sixteen volunteers of both genders (8 male, 8 female, mean age $25.67{\pm}2.43$ years) experienced VR contents in both 2D and HMD versions for 15 minutes, and their pupillary rhythms were compared. The irregular pattern of the pupillary rhythms, as demonstrated by increasing mean pupil diameter (mPD) and standard deviation of the pupil diameter (sPD), revealed motion sickness after experiencing HMD condition. The pupillary response is strongly related to the cognitive load, and the motion sickness can be interpreted as a change in the cognitive load caused by the increasing volume of visual information that must be processed and the conflict or inconsistency between different sensory modalities. The method proposed in this study could be a non-contact measurement method for the monitoring of motion sickness using a web-camera rather than previous sensor-based methods.
