Multidisciplinary Design Optimization(MDO) of a Medium-Sized Solar Powered HALE UAV Considering Energy Balancing (에너지 균형조건을 고려한 중형 태양광 추진 고고도 장기체공 무인기의 다분야 통합 최적설계)

  • A MDO study of a midium-sized solar powered High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) UAV has been performed, focused on energy balance. In the MDO process, Vortex Lattice Method(VLM) is employed for the aerodynamic modeling of the vehicle, of which structural weight is estimated with the modeling proposed by Cruz. Tail volume ratios have been set as constants, while the location of tail surfaces is determined from longitudinal static stability criterion. By balancing the available energy from solar cells, battery, and altitude, with the energy-requirement of the vehicle, the possibility of continuous flight over 24-hours has been investigated. The solar radiation level is set as that of summer at the latitude of $36^{\circ}$ north. During the daytime, the aircraft climbs using solar energy, accumulating potential energy, which supplements energy balance during the night. Optimizations have been sought in size of the vehicle, its weight distribution, and flight strategy.

  • Recently, in the space market, there has been a rapid reduction of the launch price. The major reason is that a few commercial companies, especially SpaceX, began to enter into the space market about ten years ago, which has changed the space market from monopolization to competition, and accelerated the adoption of commercial efficiency in the technology and management. Also, the successful landing and recovery of a first stage in 2016 by SpaceX proved to be a prelude to opening a new era of reusable launch vehicles, and SpaceX declared the groundbreaking launch price through using the reusable launch vehicle. This study calculates the total launch cost required to put a certain satellite into the LEO, compares the launch cost in three cases with different payload weights, and reviews the impacts of the payload on the cost effectiveness of a reusable vehicle. The total launch cost is divided into 6 subsections cost, namely development cost, production cost, refurbishment cost, operation cost, fixed-cost of factory and launch site, and insurance cost. The cost estimation relationships used in the calculation are taken from the commonly proven cost models such as TRANSCOST.

Properties of Non-Sintered Cement Pastes Immersed in Sea Waters at Different Temperatures for Binders Mixed with Different Ratios (침지된 해수 온도 및 결합재 혼합비에 따른 비소성 시멘트의 강도 특성)

  • This paper presents an investigation of the mechanical properties on non-sintered cement pastes immersed in sea waters at three different temperatures. The non-sintered cement pastes were synthesized using blended binder(Class F fly ash; FA and ground granulated blast furnace slag; GGBFS) and alkali activator(sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate). Binders were prepared by mixing the FA and GGBFS in different blend weight ratios of 6:4, 7:3 and 8:2. The alkali activators were used 5wt% of blended binder, respectively. Calcium carbonate was used as an chemical additive. The compressive strength, bulk density and absorption of alkali-activated FA-GGBFS blends pastes were measured at 3 and 28 days after immersed in sea waters at three different temperatures($5^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$). The XRD and SEM tests of the pastes were conducted at 28 days. Water-soluble chloride(free chloride) and acid-soluble chloride(total chloride) contents in the pastes were also measured after 28 days immersion in sea water. The experimental results showed that increasing the content of FA in alkali-activated FA-GGBFS blends pastes immersed in sea water increases the absorption, water-soluble chloride content and acid-soluble chloride content, and reduces the compressive strength and bulk density. And it was found that there was a variation of strength change for the alkali-activated FA-GGBFS blends pastes immersed in sea waters at three different temperatures that depends on the blending ratio of FA and GGBFS.

Influence of Specimen Geometries on the Compressive Strength of Lightweight Aggregate Concrete (경량골재 콘크리트의 압축강도에 대한 시험체 기하학적 특성의 영향)

  • The current study prepared 9 laboratorial concrete mixes and 3 ready-mixed concrete batches to examine the size and shape effects in compression failure of lightweight aggregate concrete (LWC). The concrete mixes were classified into three groups: normal-weight, all-lightweight and sand-lightweight concrete groups. For each concrete mix, the aspect ratio of circular or square specimens was 1.0 and 2.0. The lateral dimension of specimens varied between 50 and 150 mm for each laboratorial concrete mix, whereas it ranged from 50 to 400 mm with an incremental variation of 50 mm for each ready-mixed concrete batch. Test observations revealed that the crack propagation and width of the localized failure zone developed in lightweight concrete specimens were considerably different than those of normal-weight concrete (NWC). In LWC specimens, the cracks mainly passed through the coarse aggregate particles and the crack distribution performance was very poor. As a result, a stronger size effect was developed in LWC than in NWC. Especially, this trend was more notable in specimens with aspect ratio of 2.0 than in specimens with that of 1.0. The prediction model derived by Kim et al. overestimated the size effect of LWC when lateral dimension of specimen is above 150 mm. On the other hand, the modification factors specified in ASTM and CEB-FIP provisions, which are used to compensate for the shape effect of specimen on compressive strength, were still conservative in LWC.

Preparation of Feed Glass Materials for Producing a Foamed Borosilicate Glass Body from Waste LCD Panel (폐 LCD판넬로부터 붕규산유리 발포체 제조를 위한 원료 유리 제조)

  • In this article, the foamed body of glass was manufactured from the waste borosilicate glass produced by wet pulverization process without additional pretreatment which can be used as a recycling method for waste LCD panel glass. Each 100 g of pulverized waste borosilicate glass with the size of less than 270 mesh were mixed with 0.3 weight fraction of carbon and 1.5 weight fraction of $Na_2CO_3$, $Na_2SO_4$ and $CaCO_3$ and let them foamed for 20 minutes at $950^{\circ}C$ to manufacture the foamed body having the density of less than $0.3g/cm^3$. Additionally, adding $SiO_2$ or $H_3BO_3$ to the mixture enabled the foamed body to have efficient formation of open pores which showed the possibility for producing the foamed body with new functionalities such as sound absorption.

  • SpaceX shows various strategies such as constructing various payload portfolio through the reuse of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy, constructing the launch vehicles using one type of engine, the transition from kerosene engine to methane engine, and the use of 3D printing. In this study, launch vehicle proposals that can cover a variety of payloads and trajectories from KOMPSAT to GEO-KOMPSAT were constructed, and ten launch vehicles using kerosene gas generator cycle engine, kerosene staged-combustion cycle engine, and methane staged-combustion cycle engine were reviewed. Of the ten launch vehicles, the reusable launch vehicle using a 35-ton methane engine was rated as the best in terms of development potential.

Mycelial growth and wood decaying enzymatic activity analysis by various addition rates of oak powder in the liquid spawn of Lentinula edodes (참나무분 첨가에 따른 표고 액체종균의 균체생산 및 효소 활성)

  • This study was carried out to establish a suitable method for liquid spawn production from Lentinula edodes. The optimum production of liquid spawn (OLS) was achieved using soybean meal medium (SMM) with 0.3% of 850 um oak powder and 10-day incubation period and 0.6 vvm aeration volume. OLS showed activities of laccase on ABTS agar plate and carboxymethyl cellulase (CM-cellulase) on CMC agar plate. In case of liquid spawn, fruiting-body development period was delayed approximately 1 day compared to that of sawdust spawn, however, the yield of 153 g per 1.2 kg polypropylene bag was similar to that of sawdust spawn.

Correlation Between Physical and Compaction Characteristics of Various Soils (다양한 지반의 물리적 특성과 다짐특성 상관성)

  • This study, to provide quantitative data related to compaction characteristics, identifies the compaction characteristics of various types of soil samplers, in relation to their particle-size distribution and plasticity degree, and the compaction characteristics of artificially created granular materials, in relation to their A & D compaction. The results of the experiments show as follows. $r_{dmax}$ of clay is less than those of both sand and gravel approximately by 10%. O.M.C of clay has turned out to be greater than sand and gravel approximately by 20% and 30%, respectively. Changes in the compaction characteristics can be observed clearly around 30~60% of sand and 30~50% of passing No.200 sieve. It has also been shown that the compaction characteristics related to LL and PL are similar to each other in changes, and that the compaction characteristics become less clear with higher percent of fine grained soil. The compaction characteristics of the artificially created granular materials and field materials have appeared almost similar to each other. $r_{dmax}$ is less approximately by 30% and O.M.C greater approximately by 20% in A compaction than in D compaction. As $r_{dmax}$ and O.M.C become greater, its rate increases.

  • PDP용 형광체는 소성 후 입자간 결합부족으로 인한 탈락현상 및 셀 결함 불량과 Red, Green, Blue 간 유전율 불일치로 인한 방전불량 현상 등의 문제점을 안고 있다. PDP용 형광체의 소성 후 입자간의 결합력을 증진시키기 위하여 frit을 조제로 첨가하였고, 이에 따른 기계적, 전기적, 광학적 특성의 변화를 조사하였다. 사용된 frit은 자체 소결시 무색의 투명하고 ZnO-$B_2O_3-SiO_2-Al_2O_3$계 비정질 세라믹 재료이며, 연화점은 $499.78^{\circ}C$이다. 형광체 중량의 3${\sim}$20wt% 범위에서 frit의 첨가량 변화에 따른 영향을 조사하였다. Frit의 첨가량이 증가할수록 경도가 증진 되었고, 5wt% 미만 함유될 경우 Red, Green, Blue 형광체 모두 유전율 조절 효과가 미약하였다. Red 형광체는 frit함량이 3wt% 이상 함유되면 휘도가 90% 미만으로 감소하였고, Green과 Blue는 frit 함량이 10wt%이상 함유되면 확연하게 휘도가 감소 하였다.

추진계 방식에 따른 정지궤도 복합위성의 구조설계 비교연구

  • 정지궤도 복합위성 2호는 현재 기상 및 해양관련 관측임무를 수행중인 천리안위성의 임무승계를 위해 현재 개발이 진행 중이다. 천리안위성에 비해 수명이 확대되고, 임무 탑재체의 중량도 증가하여 추진제량의 대폭 증가가 필요한 것으로 분석되고 있다. 이로 인해 추진제 탱크의 확장이 불가피하여 현재 가용한 탱크를 기반으로 구조체 설계에 대한 비교 연구가 수행되었다. 정지궤도위성의 추진제 탱크 수용은 크게 측면 고정식 구형 탱크의 수직 배치방식과 극 고정식 실런더형 탱크의 수평 배치방식으로 구분된다. 추진제량 확대에 따라 두가지 방식 모두 구조체 내부에 충분한 강성확보와 하중전달을 목적으로 튜브형 구조물이 적용되며, 이를 토대로 구조체 설계가 이루어 진다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 추진계 탱크 수용 방식을 기반으로 정지궤도 복합위성에 적용될 구조체 설계 개념을 제시하고, 비교 연구를 통해 각 방식이 갖는 구조체 설계의 장단점을 기술하고자 한다.
