교사양성대학에서의 선형대수학 강좌 운영

  • 수학이 자연과학의 기초 또는 기본으로 여겨지듯이, 수학에서도 기초가 되는 강좌들이 있다. 미적분학이나 집합론, 그리고 선형대수학은 그러한 강좌라고 할 수 있다. 대수학의 관점에서 볼 때, 선형대수학은 현대대수학을 이해하기 위한 기본바탕이 되고, 한편 수학 전체적으로 보더라도, 선형대수학은 다른 고등수학을 배우기 위한 필수적인 선수과목을 것이고, 그 자체로서도 많은 응용성을 지니고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 선형대수학은 중등 교육과정과도 밀접한 관련이 있으므로, 교샤양성 대학에서의 선형대수학 강좌를 통해 학생들은 교육과정상의 연계성까지 이해하여야 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 사범대학 학생들로 하여금, 선형대수학 그 자체의 순수한 측면과, 중등교육과의 긴밀한 관련성, 아울러 기하락, 미분방정식, 그리고 부호이론과 관련된 최신 정보수학의 응용적인 측면도 포함하여 선형대수학의 폭넓은 이해를 꾀하는 방안을 제시한다.

A Study on Approaches to Algebra Focusing on Patterns and Generalization (패턴과 일반화를 강조한 대수 접근법 고찰)

  • In this paper, we deal with the teaching of algebra based on patterns and generalization. The past algebra curriculum starts with letters(variables), algebraic expressions, and equations, but these formal approaching method has many difficulties in the school algebra. Therefore we insist the new algebraic approaches should be needed. In order to develop these instructions, we firstly investigate the relationship of patterns and algebra, the relationship of generalization and algebra, the steps of generalization from patterns and levels of difficulties. Next we look into the algebra instructions based arithmetic patterns, visual patterns and functional situations. We expect that these approaches help students learn algebra when they begin school algebra.

Comparative Study in Algebra Education with CAS: Korea and US cases (컴퓨터 대수체계(CAS) 대비 중등대수교육 기초 연구)

  • This study was designed to gain insight to adopt CAS into secondary level algebra education in Korea. Most inactive usage of calculators in math and most negative effects of calculators on their achievements of Korean students were shown in International studies such as TIMSS-R. A comparative study was carried out with consideration of mathematical backgrounds and technological environments. 8 Korean students and 26 US students in Grade 11 were participated in this study. Subjects' Problem solving process and their strategies of CAS usage in classical Box-problem with CAS were analyzed. CAS helped modeling by providing symbolic manipulation commands and graphs with students' mathematical knowledge. Results indicates that CAS requires shifts focus in algebraic contents: recognition of decimal & algebraic presentations of numbers; linking various presentations, etc. The extent of instrumentation effects on the selection of problem solving strategies among Korea and US students.   • The relevance of secondary school algebra focused on paper and pencil manipulation has been reconsidered along with the expansion of universal education and the development of ICT such as computer or calculators. This study was designed to investigate the issues and trends of the recent algebra so as to provide implementations for algebra curriculum in Korea. The focus of algebra education has being shifted from paper pencil manipulation to algebraic thinking. The early algebra or informal algebra is one of the important traits of revolution, and the role of ICT is integrated in newly developed curricula. In Korea, algebra education has been retaining the traditional line even though the national curriculum documents allows ICT for instruction. The reasons of these discrepancies were analyzed and the tasks for the new curriculum in accordance with the current trends were suggested in this paper.

A study on elementary school algebra -focusing on 'early algebra'- (초기대수'를 중심으로 한 초등대수 고찰)

  • In this paper, we deal with the teaching of algebra in the elementary school mathematics, and call this algebra teaching method as ‘early algebra’. Early algebra is appeared in the 1980's with the discussion of ‘algebraic thinking’. And many studies about early algebra is in progress since 1990's. These studies aims at reducing difficulties in the teaching of algebra and the development of algebra curriculum. We investigate the background of early algebra, and justify teaching of early algebra. Also we examine the projects and studies in progress around the world. Finally through these discussions, we compare our elementary textbooks with early algebra, and verify the characters of early algebra from our arithmetic curriculum.

  • 최근 수학교육에서는 네덜란드의 수학교육이론인 현실적 수학교육(Realistic Mathematics Education: 이하 RME) 이론에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. RME 이론의 관점에서 학생들은 만들어져 있는 수학을 수용하는 사람이 아니라 스스로 모든 종류의 수학적 도구와 통찰을 개발하는 활동적 참여자로서 다루어져야 한다. 따라서 수학 학습은 수학화될 수 있는 풍부한 맥락으로부터 시작해야하며, 이러한 수학화를 실제(reality)에 둘 수 있도록 기여할 수 있는 교재로 시작해야 한다. 최근 발간된 'Mathematics In Context(이하 MIC)'는 RME 이론을 반영한 중등학교용 교과서로 맥락 문제가 그 중심이 되고 있으므로 RME 이론의 구체화된 실제를 볼 수 있는 예가 될 수 있다. 지금까지 Freudenthal의 교육철학을 소개하는 문헌 연구를 비롯하여 RME 이론을 기반으로 하는 교수 학습의 효과 분석에 관한 연구가 초등학교를 중심으로 이루어지고 있으나 중등학교 이상의 수준에서 수행된 RME 관련 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 RME 이론이 중등학교 이상에서 수행되는 예를 찾기 위해 MIC 대수 교과서 중 'Comparing Quantities(Kindt, Abels, Meyer, & Pligge, 1998)'를 중심으로 Treffers(1991)의 다섯 가지 교수 학습 원리(구성하기와 구체화하기, 여러 가지 수준과 모델, 반성과 특별한 과제, 사회적 맥락과 상호작용, 구조화와 연결성)가 어떻게 구현되고 있는지 살펴보고자 한다. RME의 수학 학습 이론은 학생들이 맥락과 모델을 사용하면서 다양한 수준의 수학화를 통해서 자신의 수학을 개발할 수 있도록 하는 것이다. MIC 교과서는 맥락 문제와 여러 가지 해결 전략을 제시함으로써 그러한 수학 수업을 할 수 있도록 안내하는 교재가 될 수 있다.

  • Although they are interested in Linear Algebra not only in science and engineering but also in humanities and sociology recently, a study of teaching linear algebra is not relatively abundant because linear algebra was taken as basic course in colleges just for 20-30 years. However, after establishing The Linear Algebra Curriculum Study Group in January, 1990, a variety of attempts to improve teaching linear algebra have been emerging. This article looks into series of studies related with teaching matrix. For this the method for teaching the concepts of matrix in relation to historico-genetic principle looking through the process of the conceptual development of matrix-determinants, matrix-systems of linear equations and linear transformation.

Gifted Middle School Students' Covariational Reasoning Emerging through the Process of Algebra Word Problem Solving (대수 문장제의 해결에서 드러나는 중등 영재 학생간의 공변 추론 수준 비교 및 분석)

  • The purpose of this qualitative case study is to investigate differences among two gifted middle school students emerging through the process of algebra word problem solving from the covariational perspective. We collected the data from four middle school students participating in the mentorship program for gifted students of mathematics and found out differences between Junghee and Donghee in solving problems involving varying rates of change. This study focuses on their actions to solve and to generalize the problems situations involving constant and varying rates of change. The results indicate that their covariational reasoning played a significant role in their algebra word problem solving.

Analysis of the Algebraic Thinking Factors and Search for the Direction of Its Learning and Teaching (대수의 사고 요소 분석 및 학습-지도 방안의 탐색)

  • School algebra starts with introducing algebraic expressions which have been one of the cognitive obstacles to the students in the transfer from arithmetic to algebra. In the recent studies on the teaching school algebra, algebraic thinking is getting much more attention together with algebraic expressions. In this paper, we examined the processes of the transfer from arithmetic to algebra and ways for teaching early algebra through algebraic thinking factors. Issues about algebraic thinking have continued since 1980's. But the theoretic foundations for algebraic thinking have not been founded in the previous studies. In this paper, we analyzed the algebraic thinking in school algebra from historico-genetic, epistemological, and symbolic-linguistic points of view, and identified algebraic thinking factors, i.e. the principle of permanence of formal laws, the concept of variable, quantitative reasoning, algebraic interpretation - constructing algebraic expressions, trans formational reasoning - changing algebraic expressions, operational senses - operating algebraic expressions, substitution, etc. We also identified these algebraic thinking factors through analyzing mathematics textbooks of elementary and middle school, and showed the middle school students' low achievement relating to these factors through the algebraic thinking ability test. Based upon these analyses, we argued that the readiness for algebra learning should be made through the processes including algebraic thinking factors in the elementary school and that the transfer from arithmetic to algebra should be accomplished naturally through the pre-algebra course. And we searched for alternative ways to improve algebra curriculums, emphasizing algebraic thinking factors. In summary, we identified the problems of school algebra relating to the transfer from arithmetic to algebra with the problem of teaching algebraic thinking and analyzed the algebraic thinking factors of school algebra, and searched for alternative ways for improving the transfer from arithmetic to algebra and the teaching of early algebra.

A Traffic Analysis When Using Motion Images In The Secondary School Network (중등학교 학내망에서 동영상 활용시 트래픽 분석)

  • 최근에 중등학교 학내 전산망에서 동영상 위주의 멀티미디어 학습 자료를 이용한 학습이 많아짐에 따라, 실제 수업 시간이나 자율 학습 시간에 동영상 학습 자료를 활용했을 때 트래픽 특성이 구체적으로 어떻게 나타나는 지를 정량적으로 규명하는 것이 요구된다. 이에 본 논문에서는 고등학교 1개교와 중학교 1개교에 대해 동영상 학습 자료를 이용한 학습 시 학내 전산망에서 나타나는 트래픽 특성을 트래픽 분석 도구를 이용하여 분석하였다. 특히, 학교 내에 자체 웹 서버의 유무, 컴퓨터 접속 대수 등을 주요 변인으로 하여 동영상 실행 시 나타나는 현상들에 대한 측정 결과들을 제시하였다. 측정 결과로부터 다음과 같은 특성들을 얻어낼 수 있었다. 첫째, 학교 내에 자체 웹 서버의 유무가 전송 트래픽 량에 상당한 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 동시 컴퓨터 접속 대수의 증가가 끊김 현상과 같은 트래픽 특성에 영향을 주었다. 이러한 측정 및 분석 결과를 볼 때, 적게는 수십 명 많게는 수백 명의 학생이 동시에 인터넷을 통해 학습을 한다면 학내 전산망의 구성 형태나 동시 접속자 수에 따라 원활한 학습을 가져오지 못하고 많은 문제를 가져 올 것으로 예상되었다.
