Avian research trends in Korea analyzed by text-mining and co-word analysis: based on articles of the Korean Journal of Ornithology (텍스트마이닝과 동시출현단어 분석을 이용한 국내 조류학 연구동향: 한국조류학회지 논문을 대상으로)

  • For balanced development of ornithological research in Korea, it is important to review what birds and what research topics have been studied so far. We quantitatively investigated the trends of domestic ornithological research using text-mining and co-word analysis. As a result of studying 372 articles published in the Korean Journal of Ornithology, which is the most representative ornithological journals, words related to research topics such as population and community monitoring, first record of species and breeding ecology, and heavy metal pollution in birds have been widely used in research articles. Except for subjects such as monitoring and first record of species, studies have not been conducted widely. It was also found that research were concentrated on specific birds such as Anas platyrhynchos, Calidris alpina, and Anas poecilorhyncha. The present study, which analyzed the research topics and avian taxa that were relatively active until now and those which were insufficient, suggests what we should do in the future for the balanced development of ornithological research in Korea.

  • 골프장 건축 시 하부지반 구축을 위해 사용하는 잔석의 산화로 인해 중금속 용출이 발생할 수 있다. 용출된 중금속으로 인근 농업지역이 오염될 경우 인간의 식생활에 직접적인 영향을 미쳐 인체건강에 악영향을 끼칠 수 있다. 특히, 망간의 경우 식품을 통해 과다섭취할 경우 정신착란, 운동실조 등 다양한 신경학적 문제를 발생시키기 때문에 망간 오염에 대한 조사 및 관리는 필수적이다. 따라서, 본 연구는 최근 골프장이 건설된 부산시 일광 회룡리 일대 농업지역에서 망간 오염 평가를 위해 지표수, 퇴적물, 벼 작물을 채취하여 망간 농도 분석을 수행하였다. 골프장 유출조부터 시작되는 관개수로에서 지표수와 퇴적물 시료를 약 20 m 간격으로 채취하였으며, 관개수로의 구조에 따라 논을 4개의 구역(Area 1 - 4)으로 구분하여 논 토양과 벼 작물을 채취하였다. 벼 작물의 경우 뿌리, 줄기, 곡물 부분으로 나누어 채취하였으며, 퇴적물과 논 토양은 시료 내 존재하는 망간의 형태를 확인하기 위해 연속추출법을 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과 지표수의 망간 농도는 골프장 유출조에서 하류로 갈수록 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 하류에서의 망간농도는 상류에 비해 최대 88% 감소하였다. 퇴적물의 망간 농도는 논으로 연결되는 지점에서 20,000 mg/kg 이상의 높은 농도를 보였으며, 농업이 진행 중인 3, 5, 7월은 최대 약 25,000 mg/kg의 농도를 보였으나, 농업이 끝난 9월에는 최대 약 3,500 mg/kg으로 상대적으로 낮은 농도를 보였다. 논 토양의 망간 농도는 관개수로와 첫 번째로 연결되는 Area 1에서 1,600 mg/kg으로 측정되었으며, 이는 EPA에서 권고한 논 토양 망간 기준 1,000 mg/kg을 초과하는 농도로 확인되었다. 또한, 식물이 사용할 수 없는Residual 형태의 망간 농도는 변화가 없었으나, 식물이 사용 가능한 Acid soluble, Reducible, Oxidizable 형태의 망간 농도는 추수기 이후 80% 이상 감소하였다. 벼 작물의 곡물 망간 농도는100 - 200 mg/kg으로 USDA에서 발표한 쌀 곡물 망간 농도의 평균인 5 mg/kg보다 약 20배 이상 높게 검출되었다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 골프장 유출조로부터 발생하는 망간오염을 식별하고 주변 농업지역에 미치는 영향을 확인할 수 있었으며, 추후 골프장 운영으로 인한 환경오염에 대한 관리가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

Monitoring of Heavy Metals in Fruits in Korea (유통 중인 과일류의 중금속 모니터링)

  • According to the Codex committee, the maximum allowable level for lead in fruits is 0.1 mg/kg. This survey was conducted as a surveillance program following the establishment of safety guideline for fruits in Korea. Concentrations of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) were measured in 927 samples using a ICP-MS and a mercury analyzer. The recoveries of microwave digestion method were 86.0-110.4% for Pb, 81.0-104.0% for Cd and 82.0-104.7% for As by standard addition method. The recovery of direct mercury analyzer was 106.5% for Hg. The average levels of Pb in ${\mu}g/kg$ were $10.0{\pm}12.8$ for apple, $8.8{\pm}10.9$ for pear, $4.1{\pm}4.4$ for persimmons, $14.9{\pm}12.3$ for mandarin, $7.1{\pm}6.5$ for orange, $3.1{\pm}3.3$ for banana, $8.8{\pm}8.9$ for kiwi, and $9.3{\pm}9.7$ for mango. The average levels of Cd in ${\mu}g/kg$ were $0.4{\pm}0.3$ for apple, $2.0{\pm}1.6$ for pear, $0.3{\pm}0.3$ for persimmon, $0.1{\pm}0.1$ for mandarin, $0.1{\pm}0.1$ for orange, $1.3{\pm}1.8$ for banana, $0.5{\pm}0.5$ for kiwi, and $0.7{\pm}0.6$ for mango. The average levels of As in ${\mu}g/kg$ were $2.0{\pm}2.1$ for apple, $1.2{\pm}1.3$ for pear, $1.5{\pm}1.2$ for persimmon, $0.8{\pm}0.3$ for mandarin, $1.5{\pm}0.5$ for orange, $1.8{\pm}1.2$ for banana, $1.6{\pm}1.5$ for kiwi, and $1.2{\pm}1.5$ for mango. The average levels of Hg in ${\mu}g/kg$ were $0.5{\pm}0.4$ for apple, $0.3{\pm}0.2$ for pear, $0.2{\pm}0.1$ for persimmon, $0.2{\pm}0.1$ for mandarin, $0.2{\pm}0.1$ for orange, $0.2{\pm}0.0$ for banana, $0.2{\pm}0.2$ for kiwi, and $0.6{\pm}0.2$ for mango. Based on the Korean public nutrition report 2005, these levels (or amounts) are calculated only at 0.17% for Pb, 0.013% for Cd and 0.006% for Hg of those presented in provisional tolerable weekly Intake (PTWI) which has been established by FAO/WHO. Therefore, the levels presented here are presumed to be adequately safe.

Development of Method for Possibility Assessment on Organic Resources for Using Raw Material of Compost (유기성자원의 퇴비원료로 활용 가능성 평가방법 개발)

  • This study was conducted to find a system for screening organic resources with 16 species, 62 samples which were selected to randomizing point from city, province and industrial areas in the whole country. Content of organic matters were $65.3%{\sim}98.0%$ in all samples so that they were largely over than 60%, raw material regulation of compost. Concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus were $0.7{\sim}4.8%\;and\;0.8{\sim}5.0$, they could look for effect of the nitrogen and phosphorus supply as a raw material of compost. In case of 8 elements concentrations of heavy metal, they were too high to use as raw materials of compost which were over to regulation limit in Cu, Cr, Ni, and As from fiber industry, Ni from food company and leather industry, and the others are adapt to limit levels. HEM contents fro the highest to $113mg\;kg^{-1}$ from liber industry and PAHs content were the highest to $3,462ug\;kg^{-1}$ from paper-mill manufacture. Distribution of PAHs concentiations were naphthalene>phenanthrene>pyrene>fluoroanthene>acenaphthene. $Microtox{(R)}\;EC_{50}$ values for bioassay were pharmaceutical company>paper-mill manufacture>industrial area sewage sludge>fiber industry>urban sewage sludge>metropolitan sewage sludge. HEM between Zn, Cu, and Ni was significant at the 99% and between Cd was significant at the 95%, Microtox between Hg and BEM significant at the 95%.

Pollutant Contents with Particle Size Distribution in Bridge Road Drainage Sediment (교량도로 배수받이 퇴적물질의 입경별 오염물질 함량)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the basic data for nonpoint pollutant loads from bridge road drainage sediments using the results to analyze organic matter and heavy metals from the four bridge drainage sampling sites with sediments of different particle size ranges. The sediment sample was collected from the bridge road drainage and the masses of nine sediments fractions were obtained after drying the separated sediment in an over at $85^{\circ}C:>2,000{\mu}m$, $1,000\sim2,000{\mu}m$, $850\sim1,000{\mu}m$, $425\sim850{\mu}m$, $212\sim425{\mu}m$, $125\sim212{\mu}m$, $90\sim125{\mu}m$, $75\sim90{\mu}m$, $<75{\mu}m$. The sediment extract was analyzed water quality constituents, including chemical oxygen demand(COD), total nitrogen(T-N), total phosphorus(T-P), heavy metals and particle size distribution. The results indicate that most of particle size ranges of the bridge road sediments was $125\sim425{\mu}m$, and portion of $<75{\mu}m$ was low. But most of the pollutants are associated with the finer fractions of the load sediments. As the results of analysis, the range and average values of COD, T-N, T-P, Fe, Cu, Cr, and Pb were $177\sim198.8$ mg/kg(77.6 mg/kg), $23\sim200$ mg/kg(83 mg/kg), T-P $18\sim215$ mg/kg(129 mg/kg), and $1,508\sim5,612$ mg/kg(3,835 mg/kg), $9.2\sim69.3$ mg/kg(49 mg/kg), $19.1\sim662.2$ mg/kg(214 mg/kg), and $28.4\sim251.4$ mg/kg(114 mg/kg), respectively. The relationship between sediment size and pollutants concentration have an inverse proportion. The removal of road sediments with frequently could be reduced the significant nonpoint pollutant load, because of the bridge road sediment contains considerable micro-particles and heavy metals.

Monitoring of hazardous heavy metals in circulated collagen products in Korea (유통 콜라겐 제품 중 유해중금속 함량 모니터링)

  • This study was conducted to estimate hazardous heavy metal content, including lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) in 120 collagen products currently marketed in Korea. Hg concentration was analyzed by a gold amalgamation method using a mercury analyzer, while concentrations of Pb, Cd, and As were analyzed by ICP-OES. The average Pb concentration was 0.097 mg/kg. For comparison, respective average concentrations were 0.108 mg/kg, 0.084 mg/kg, 0.131 mg/kg, and 0.149 mg/kg in functional health foods, other processed products, beverages, and fruit/vegetable processed products. The average concentration of Cd was 0.026 mg/kg. All products in which Cd was detected were functional health foods. The average concentration of As was 0.097 mg/kg, with respective average concentrations of 0.091 mg/kg, 0.133 mg/kg, and 0.086 mg/kg in functional health foods, other processed products, and fruit/vegetable processed products. The average Hg concentration was 0.0025 mg/kg, with respective average concentrations of 0.0012 mg/kg, 0.0028 mg/kg, 0.0013 mg/kg, and 0.0031 mg/kg in functional health foods, other processed products, fruit/vegetable processed products, and candies respectively. Heavy metal levels in beverages and candy products with set heavy metal standards were below the set standards. Even products without regulatory standards were found to be relatively safe compared with heavy metal standards set for domestic and foreign foods.

Electrokinetic Extraction of Heavy Metal from Clayey Soil : Desorption Characteristics During Electrical Treatment (중금속으로 오염된 점성토에서 동전기프로세스에 의한 탈착 특성)

  • A number of batch isotherm and electrokinetic experiments were conducted in order to investigate the migration of zinc and its removal efficiency during electrokinetic soil processing. Sorption and desorption characteristics of zinc spiked kaolin clay have been examined by comparison with electrically induced desorption and precipitation occurring in the anode and cathode regions, respectively. The removal efficiency of zinc under the applied voltage gradient of 300 V/m was found to be up to approximately 80 % within 4 hours of the electrokinetic treatment. The study is significant with respect to the remediation of contaminated areas.

Chemical Speciation and Potential Mobility of Heavy Metals in Tailings and Contaminated Soils (광미 및 오염된 토양에서 중금속의 존재형태 및 잠재적인 이동도)

  • Tailings and contaminated soils from Cheongyang mine and Seobo mine have been analysed by ICP-AES from 5-step sequential extraction method of multielement determination on extraction solutions at each step. As and Co within tailings and contaminated soils from Cheongyang mine and Seobo mine are mainly in the residual phase. In case of Cd, Cu and Zn, the most dominant fraction for tailings of Cheongyang mine is the oxidizable phase, while tailings of Seobo mine is dominated by the residual phase. In contaminated soils from Seobo mine, the predominant fraction for Cd, Cu and Zn is the Fe-Mn oxide phase. The exchangeable fraction of Pb in tailings from Cheongyang mine and Seobo mine is relatively high compared with those of other metals; whereas Pb fraction in contaminated soils from Seobo mine is largely associated with the residual fraction.

Basic Studies on the Recovery of Zinc Metal from Wastewater by Cyclic Voltammetry (循環走査법에 의한 廢水로부터 亞鉛 回收에 관한 基礎 硏究)

  • Cyclic voltammetry has been applied in the basic studies for the treatment and recovery of heavy metal component contained in wastewater by electrochemical reduction. The electrochemical behaviors of zinc ion for zinc metal electrode and carbon elec-trode were characterized by voltammograms and it was showed that zinc ions were reduced to metallic form below -0.76 V vs SHE. The change in the features of crystalline form of metallic zinc upon oxidation and reduction reaction was observed by X-ray diffraction method and the Am analysis verified that zinc ions were reduced to metal on copper plate. The results of this study were regarded to be important and meaningful in the treatment of heavy metal containing wastewater and, as a result, in the obtainment of metallic product by electrochemical method.

  • 고형연료(RDF)는 가연성 폐기물을 성형된 형태로 만드는 것으로 화석연료의 대체 에너지로 이용되어질 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 일반 소각설비에 비해 수송성, 저장성이 뛰어나며 발열량이 거의 일정하여 연소 안정성이 우수하고 액체연료나 기체연료의 비해 경제성과 안정성이 높다는 장점이 있다. 하지만 고형연료의 미량 포함되어 있는 중금속 물질에 의해 연소장치의 부식이나 시설 노후 촉진화와 같은 원인을 제공하며, 심각한 환경오염원의 전구물질이 생성될 수 있어 실용화에는 큰 장해 요인이 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에는 고형연료의 재료가 되는 폐기물을 분석하여, 중금속성분이 미치는 영향을 조사하고 부존자원의 최적 이용 방안을 도출하며, 이를 바탕으로 부존자원 액상/고상 연료화 기술, 부존자원 복합이용시스템, 폐열활용 시스템과 같은 기술에 적용하여 부존자원 재활용 및 에너지를 최적 활용할 수 있는 D/B 구축을 하는 것이 최종 목표이다.
