  • STSAT-2 (Science & Technology SATellite-2) is a Korea micro-satellite which will be launched at NARO Space center in Koheung, Korea. Launch vehicle for STSAT-2 is KSLV-1 (Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1) which is the first development in Korea space launch vehicle program. Starting development in 2002 EM(Engineering Model), PFM(Proto-Flight Model), and FM(Flight Model) were developed completely. Electrical functional test, space environmental test, and launch vehicle environmental test on system level are performed for testing those development models. In this paper we report the results of STSAT-2 PFM space environmental test and launch vehicle environmental test which is successfully completed.

  • This paper compares the performance of Mass Memory Unit(MMU) between Science and Technology Satellite 1(STSAT-1) and STSAT-2 from developed Proto Flight Model(PFM) for Miniaturization, lightweight and low power consumption. MMU receives the payload data at 200Kbps and transmits them to XTX at 10Mbps in the STSAT-2. The performance of PFM MMU in the Functional and space environments test satisfies the requirements of STSAT-2.

  • KARI Electrical Test Team performed the SOH (State Of Health) test and Thermal Cycling test for small satellite of KOMPSAT-1 PFM at KARI SITC Highbay as per Storage plan every year, and verified that the system/subsystem units function installed on PFM were good without significant degradation causing from long-term storage. This paper describes the test items, test method, test procedure and selected test result data.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of PFM(Proto Flight Model, PFM) of DRE(Data Receiving Equipment, DRE) for Science and Technology Satellite 2(STSAT-2) and the results of integration performance test. DRE components are X-band receiver, DCE(Data Combine Equipment, DCE) and RAC(Receiving and Archiving Computer, RAC). DCE consists of I&Q data combiner and ECL signal distributor. RAC consists of DRC(Data Receiving Card) and ST2RAS(STSAT-2 Receiving and Archinving Software). X-band receiver receives 10Mbps QPSK I, Q satellite data and sends the data to DCE. DRC stores the I&Q combine data from DCE to RAID. The pre-processing program sorts and stores to satellite status data and payload data. The performance of DRE in the functional and space environments test satisfies the requirements of STSAT-2.

  • Space Test Department at KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) plans to carry out the GVT(Ground Vibration Test) for the KSR(Korea Sounding Rocket)-III FM(Flight Model) which is being developed by Space Technology R&D Division. KSR-III will be an intermediate to the launch vehicle capable of carrying satellites to their orbits. GVT offers very important information to predict the behavior of KSR in its operation, and to develop the flight control and aerodynamic analysis. For development of test facilities, testing and analysis methods which can be used for the future test, Space Test Department has performed the GVT with KSR-II PFM(Proto-Flight Model) at Satellite Integration & Test Center of KARl This paper discusses the procedures, techniques and the results of it. In this test, to simulate free-free condition, test object hung in the air by 4 bungee cords specially devised. The GVT was carried out using pure random excitation technique with MIMO(Multi-Input-Multi-Output) method with three electromagnetic shakers, and poly-reference parameter estimation was used to identify the modal parameters. As the result of the test, 11 mode shapes and modal parameters below 200㎐ were identified and compared with analytical results.

  • The space qualification has to be conducted by a high level of screening to ensure the design margin of devices, materials, manufacturing processes, units, modules, and subsystem or system. The space qualification according to traditional test standards proposed by US military, NASA and ESA involve high cost and tight schedule due to their conservative requirements. It is necessary to develop a space qualification guideline that is cost-efficient and schedule-optimized for the development of domestic satellites. In this study, as a basic research to develop the space qualification guideline, the articles related to space qualification in test standards document released from military and space agency have been investigated. We are planning to utilize the results as a basic database for establishing the independent tailored space qualification guideline.
