  • The demand for cars has been so steadily increasing based on the economic growth that the number of registered cars reached 18,870,000 as of the end of December, 2012. Due to this, the demand for the parking lots also rises continuously. Because of the limited ground space, the buildings ever becoming larger, and the trend of underground parking spaces, recent parking spaces are generally constructed underground. Accordingly, the parking lot ramps slope is limited to less than 17% by relevant laws to ensure the driver safety. However, when a driver enters a parking lot ramps whose slope is slightly steep, he frequently experiences his car body colliding with ramp brackets and often sees the scratches on ramp floor. Thus, this study is intended to prevent any damage to a structure and to contribute to ensuring the riding comfort and safety of drivers and passengers by presenting the details of proper vertical curve to prevent the collision of vehicles with ramp brackets through a vertical analysis of the first and last parts of a parking lot ramps. Because it is necessary to decide the appropriate and suitable vertical slope of a parking lot ramps, this study first identified the problems through site inspection, targeting the parking lot ramps of large buildings frequently that are used by many random people. Next, the possibility of mutual collision was assessed through a theoretical analysis of the first and last parts of a parking lot ramps. Lastly, the vertical curve of a parking ramp was analyzed to estimate its details, which was presented in this study. In conclusion, if the vertical curve presented through this study is used, it will help prevent any damage to the cars and structures, ensure the riding comfort and safety of the drivers, and further reestablish the criteria for vertical installation of a parking lot ramps.

  • Due to the rapid economic growth within the nation, the quality of life of individuals have improved dramatically. The scope of living activities of individuals have also extended, resulting in a rapidly increasing demand for automobiles. The number of vehicles registered in Korea is rapidly increasing and will reach 188.71 million as of December 2012. Compared to the registered residents of 50.94 million provided by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the registered population reflects about 4 people per every automobile. Due to the high demands for vehicles, the demands for parking lots in collective housing and businesses are also increasing. In reality, the current state of expansion of parking lots are underground, due to the limited available space on ground level. Specifically, the slope of a parking lot cannot exceed 17% linear slope and 14% curved slope according to the 'parking lot laws', however studies show that the driver feels at risk for safety when stopped on the parking ramp while driving in the parking lot. This study seeks to examine the suitability of parking lot ramps, concerning the safety aspects of the driver. First, the ramp type was categorized as linear or curved, then test drives were performed based on variations of slopes, slant distances, directions and points. A survey was administered to the driver after the completion of the test drive, in order to element design for an ideal ramp. In the case of curved ramp, the results of the estimate suggests a counterclockwise, slope at a maximum of 12% incline. The maximum slope for a linear ramp was analyzed to be between 13~14%, suggesting that slope greater than 15% need to be eliminated. In conclusion, it is anticipated that the element design parking ramp reported in this study will help to serve as a reference for future parking lot related guidelines, and provide cost effective traffic safety mechanisms in future parking lot businesses to follow.

  • The column gap of underground parking lots of office considering a business background and effective parking divisions is planned. A parking plan by column gap of fixed forms in atypical underground parking lots makes much extra storage rooms. Most of the edge of the parking lots are used for fan room. Part of the edge are located at parking ramps. Also warehouses are located in extra storage rooms. In this study compare study economical efficiency between life cycle costs and leases earnings. Consequently, It is proved that the warehouse rental is efficient because of lease earning guaranted years.

  • The occupancy based O/D is essential for measuring efficiency of various transportation policies like HOV/HOT lane, ramp metering, and public parking station. There has been many studies on occupancy survey methodology and O/D estimation using TCS (Toll Collection System) data separately. The occupancy O/D estimation methodology using TCS data has not been attempted thus far. An overall process from data collection stage to the occupancy O/D estimation stage has been suggested. Field survey was performed at the northbound Seoul toll station of Gyeongbu Expressway by each 2 hours of AM peak, PM non-peak, PM peak, midnight periods on a day. The process of matching the TCS data and field survey data classified by tollbooth ID, car type/mode, and arrival time was also performed. One typical output of the results showed that the ratio of single occupancy vehicles bounding for Seoul during the AM peak amounted to 60%. With the key output of this study and the specific O/D estimation methodology suggested, the whole centroid-to-centroid occupancy O/D of the country could be available, and then various applications in which the occupancy information is required could be possible.
