The Citedness of a Scientific Paper Written/Published in a Scientifically Peripheral Country by Worldwide Science Literature: The Case of Korea

Exploring Middle School Students' Learning Development through Science Magazine Project with Focus on the Perspective of Participation (과학 잡지 프로젝트를 통한 중학생의 학습 변화 탐색: 참여의 관점을 중심으로)

  • This study was designed to explore how learners' participation develop if provided with opportunities for various scientific practices and experiences in writing science magazine articles as an extra-curricular club activity and what factors facilitate these participation development. Data from participant observations, in-depth interviews with students, and documents were used to extract the common characteristics of the practices. The learners' development was categorized into 3 stages in terms of participation in the community of practice: peripheral participation, transitional participation, and full participation. As participation develops, situational interest developed to individual interests and value attachment. Students sought to get ideas from every day life, and finally, in the stage of full participation, advances in writing showed the characteristics of knowledge transformation. Best of all, the participants enjoyed and valued their participation showing identities as journalists. The nature of science magazine article, external scaffolding, and internalization through enjoyment and value attachment appeared to be decisive factors that facilitate the development of participation. Student's enculturation of writing for learning offers a possibility that continue to do so, even after they have left formal schooling and make a basis for lifelong learning.

  • 본고는 ‘인간환경의 탐구’라는 제목으로 일본 산업Design 연구소가 건축 및 환경관계잡지 ‘SD(Space Design)’ 지(72년10월)에 기고한 기사를 역편한 것이다. 최근 태두되고있는 인간환경의 재인식이라는 문제와 관병해 우리주변의 환경과 공간을 미적인식활동의 장병이라는 입장에서 고찰한 것인데, 건축학도는 물론 일반인에게도 새삼 환경이라는 의미를 되씹어 볼 수 있는 유익한 기회가 될 것이다.

핵심 잡지의 결정 요인에 관한 연구

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the factors determining core journals in a field based upon the results of the citation analysis of the journals in the field of Korean History(KH). In order to verify the determinant factors, dividing the articles of the KH journals into their novelty and author's seniority, the following hypotheses were established. Hypothesis 1: When a KH journal publishes more articles on prehistoric and ancient eras than others, the journal will have higher chance to be included in the core journals. Hypothesis 2: When a KH journal publishes more articles by senior researchers than others, the journal will have higher chance to be included in the core journals. To achieve the purpose, the cited articles found in the two sample journals, namely, Backsan Hakbo and Hanguksa Yongu were analysed during the past 20 years from 1962 to 1981. Applying the Hirst's Discipline Impact Factor method to the the study, Historical Science Impact Factor(HSIF) on the samples itself and the historical era dealt with in the articles and the seniority of the authors during every five-year period.   • This paper proposes a new personalized mobile advertising service using a smartphone connected with a digital signage which is increasingly common for out-of-home advertising. The advertising contents can be transferred with their metadata to a digital signage. Then, the signage delivers only metadata to smartphones in close proximity of it. Based on the user's preference, an application on a smartphone stores advertising metadata and publishes a personalized advertising e-catalog automatically. A smartphone user can browse, edit and share it with friends. In the view of extension of the reach of the advertising contents of various N-Screen devices including a digital signage and a smart TV to a smartphone and supplying personalized advertising data, this advertising model will be very beneficial and commercialized in the near future.

  • Nowadays, people get images from various media like TV, magazines, newspaper, internet. Such images directly influence people's thoughts and lives, either consciously or unconsciously. In the past, reproduction devices have been mainly used in reproducing an original scene accurately. Lately, the cognitive preference became a key value in the scene reproduction, and it was affected by the surrounding media. Recently, the most commonly used device in reproducing an original scene is the camera. The core of an image is the light, in other words, the exposure. Most digital cameras are set to adjust exposure automatically in order to reproduce a scene physically as identical as possible. However, physically right exposure does not always give images that people prefers. Numbers of tests were done to find the exposure value that makes an image cognitively more preferred. Skin tones which are highly sensitive to color and changes in density has been used in the tests. A male and a female model have been used to classify changes in cognitive preference due to gender differences.

  • Cue words and phrases of critical sentences, Paradigms knowing the critical information between sentences, Rules extracting the sentences contained critical information and producing the critical sentences were made to construct the critical abstract of scholar journals in the web environment. The ontology aided to accomplish above works were designed, to manage and operate the cue words and phrases in documents and the symptoms related to Purpose, Method, Result, and Conclusion sentences. The results of performance test remarked to improve the advancement of extraction and production rules and the reinforcement of ontology's relationship.

  • The 1920s and 1930s ushered in "the golden age" of Chinese comics when the comics flourished. Satirical cartoons in modern Chinese comics were popular due to emotional instability and war caused by foreign powers. Among many popular comics, this paper analyzes in the 1920s and in the 1930s which were made into films and dramas. Chapter Two shows that China in the Republican era of China expanded its consumer culture into some sectors like films, novels, magazines and fashion in the 1920s and 1930s. However, more than any other things, this chapter considers from the historical perspective "the golden age" of comics including comic magazine in the 1930s and a history of comic magazines that gained popularity with conventional and common story. Chapter Three explains that social satire cartoons were in vogue since the May Fourth Movement and anti-imperialistic and semi-feudalistic stories in the 1920s were realized in life. It also says that comics that describes the negative sides of its society were popular. Ye QianYu, a cartoonist, portrayed many facets of Shanghai through : the daily life of the middle and lower classes, bureaucratic corruption and sympathy for the working class. drawn by Zhang LePing describes the unfair social system between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat and the gap between the rich and poor through the main character, the powerless and poor orphan. and lampooned the reality of its time in an objective, witty and humorous way in terms of ethics and economy respectively. The researcher chooses to study and which are very familiar to us, because good cartoons, animations and movies stimulate the feelings about our surroundings.

The Study of Golf Activities of the King Young Chin (영친왕의 골프활동에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out about unknown golf activities through sociological analysis based on the relationship between King Youngchin's life in Japan and the people around him. The following conclusions were drawn. King Youngchin was influenced by the Japanese imperial family to learn golf for the first time in 1924, and participated in golf tournaments in 1925. In 1927, during a one-year European tour, he participated in golf games in Singapore, Paris, Switzerland, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy, as well as golf course tours, golf lessons, and visiting golf ball manufacturing factories. After returning from Europe, he provided support for the site of Gyeongseong Gunjari Golf Course, construction and operation expenses. However, he did not show any special golf activities during his life as a high class Japanese military officer, and after the Pacific War, he could not find any more golf activities due to social conditions and economic conditions such as wartime restoration. There were no more golf activities due to health problems from 1958.
