  • This paper examines the day of the week effect focusing on the effect of the settlement procedures on the stock price in seven major international stock markets. Settlement dates or procedures may have an effect on rate of return distributions in international stock markets. Those Settlement procedures are different among various international stock markets. Furthermore, several international stock markets change their systems of settlement procedures. On the New York stock exchanges, stock transactions are settled in five business days after the transaction. However, they changed settlement procedures from five business days to three business days from 1995. Those settlement procedures on the London stock exchanges and the Paris stock exchanges were changes from the fixed settlement date systems to the fixed settlement lag systems. Thus, this paper examines the effect of the changes in settlement procedures on the stock price in several stock markets. I found that changes of settlement dates or procedures have an effect on the rate of return distributions for specific days in some stock markets. This paper also examines the day of the week effect for seven international stock markets. I found that strong weekend effect before the period of 1990. However, the weekend effect has disappeared during the period from 1990 to 2002 in international stock markets.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the Weekend and January effect in the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) using daily closing prices of GSE-All Share Index (ASI) and Composite Index (CI) between the period of January 4th, 2005 and December 31st, 2013. The dataset covers the period of 2005 to 2010 (6 years) for the ASI and 2011 to 2013 (3 years) for the CI. The following results are obtained based on a parametric regression using dummy variables. First, no weekly effect or anomaly is documented for both GSE-ASI and GSE-CI. Second, market abnormalities are captured for both GSE-ASI and GSE-CI over their respective entire periods. However, no consistent April effect is found for ASI when the period was segregated into two periods of three years. The April effect is uncovered for the GSE-ASI at 5% significant level while the January effect is found for the GSE-CI at 1% significant level.

  • This study examines the impact of sleep duration on Korean adolescents' suicidal impulse. A gender-based analysis was conducted using binary logistic regression method. The major findings are as follows. First, weekday sleep duration had a significant effect only on male adolescents. Male adolescents who sleep less than seven hours on a weekday are likely to experience suicidal impulse by 1.9 times higher than the others. This effect remained significant even when other relevant variables were controlled. On the other hand, female adolescents who have less than seven hours of sleep on a weekday have about 1.3 times higher chances to experience suicidal impulse. However, this effect became insignificant when other variables such as stress were controlled. Meanwhile, weekend sleep duration did not have any significant effect on both male and female adolescents. By demonstrating the different effects between weekday/weekend sleep duration and male/female adolescents, this study supports the claim that it is necessary to take a social approach in studying sleep duration.

  • In this study, we sought to confirm the potential of the Chaetomorpha torta extract as a raw material for cosmetics. Accordingly, we sought to find the optimal extraction conditions for Chaetomorpha torta by ethanol concentration and to check whether it has an anti-inflammatory effect by confirming the inhibitory effect of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6). The main contents of the experiment results are as follows. First, when DPPH radical scavenging ability and polyphenol yield were used as the criteria for optimal extraction conditions of Chaetomorpha torta, 70% concentration ethanol extract was most suitable. Second, as a result of cytotoxicity evaluation using Raw 264.7, no cytotoxicity was observed at concentrations below 100 ㎍/mL. Third, as a result of measuring the inhibitory effect of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in LPS-induced Raw 264.7 cells, the production of all cytokines decreased in proportion to the concentration, and 100 ㎍/mL It was confirmed that the concentrations were 73.76±2.6%, 84.8±2.42%, and 91.91±0.47%, respectively, showing excellent anti-inflammatory properties. According to these research results, it appears that the extract of the Chaetomorpha torta can be valuable as a raw material for cosmetics with anti-inflammatory properties, and if research on antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activities related to green algae is conducted more actively, marine resources can be used as useful basic data. It is believed that it will be.

  • This study investigated the effects of influencing factors on the sales volume of apparel products. Based on previous studies, weekend effect, discount rate, and meteorological factors including daily average temperature, rainfall, sea level pressure, and fine dust were selected as independent variables to calculate their effects on sales quantity of apparel products. The daily sales data during 2015 - 2016 were collected from casual brands and outdoor brands which "A" apparel manufacturing company had operated. The actual data of "A" company were analyzed using SAS(R) 9.4 and SAS(R) Enterprise Miner 14.1. The results of this study were as follows: First, the influencing factors on total sales volume of apparel products were proved to be the weekend effect, discount rate, and fine dust. Second, the analysis of influencing factors on sales volume of apparel products according to season showed: 1) In casual brands, the average temperature had a significant influence on the sales volume of spring/summer products, and the sea level pressure affected the sales volume of summer/fall/winter products significantly. 2) In outdoor brands, the average temperature and the fine dust had a significant influence on the sales volume of all season's products. The sea level pressure affected the sales volume of summer/fall/ winter products significantly. The weekend effect and the discount effect affected the sales volume of apparel products partly. Third, the effect of rainfall was not proven significant, which was different from the results of past studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of weekend forest healing programs using urban forest on family cohesion and family relationship improvement and parental satisfaction with programs. 21 families (65 people)participated in the weekend forest healing program in Incheon Grand Park from April to August 2018. The program using family forest experience activity and forest healing therapy was newly constructed and implemented with 4 times 8 hours for 2 hours each week. The results of this study is that weekend forest healing programs for family gave a positive effect on family cohesion and family relationship, and parents' satisfaction showed high satisfaction in most items. Therefore, we concluded that forest healing activities are suitable for effective healing activities in modern society where functions such as family cohesion and emotional bond are recognized as important by improving family cohesion and family relationship. Further research should be extended to different types of families, and the development of diverse and interesting family-experience forest healing programs that reflect family needs should continue.

  • This study examines two hypothesis regarding return generating process of corporate bonds: the trading day hypothesis and calendar day hypothesis. To differentiate two hypothesis ANOVA(analysis of variance) and regression analysis were used. If the statistical result can not reject calendar day hypothesis, it implies that there is weekend effect. The statistical result didn't support any particular hypothesis for the period of September 7th, 1999 through December 31, 2002. However, corporate bonds were supporting calendar day hypothesis for the period of October 9, 2000 through December 31, 2002. The result indicates that the Korean corporate bond market got through the impact of IMF.

  • This study investigated the effects of spousal intervention in housework on female depression. To achieve this, an empirical 10-day field survey of 119 mothers of children after school age was conducted in Suwon, Incheon, Yeoju and Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do through structured questionnaires. The findings were as follows. Spousal intervention in housework had a significant effect on female depression, but there were different prevalence rates of female depression according to the status of spousal childcare on weekdays and weekends. In other words, there was a difference in the effects of spousal intervention in housework on female depression according to weekday childcare and weekend childcare. These findings indicate that reducing housework burdens by spousal intervention in housework helps to lower and prevent female depression. Consequently, because there is a difference in the effects of spousal intervention in housework on female depression according to the level of simple weekday or weekend childcare and the degree of intervention, spousal intervention and sharing all family management duties, including housework and childcare, can maximize the effect.
