The meaning of the characteristics of formative expression in contemporary residential architecture is flowing elements as important means to inbreathe emotional feeling of movement and as automatic and positive wats of expression. So the purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of formative expression in contemporary residential architecture, and to plan residential design linked with this kind of concept. For this study, analysis of case studies were used and the cases were selected in contemporary residential architecture which were represented having formative expressions since 2005. The major results found that the characteristics of formative expression were ex-center, reiteration, dispersibility, diagonality, plasticity, non-linearity, and deconstruction. In addition to that, we derived various methods expressing the formative characteristics, which were mass transformation, plan variation and composition element transformation. Summing these results up, the various characteristics of formative expression in contemporary residential architecture are understood as the results of the free modeling will of architects fulfilled with the spirit of inquiry and experiment to escape from the standard architecture in order to differentiate themselves.

The purpose of this study was to analyze aesthetic characteristics of Korean traditional architecture so that it resolve severance problems in modern housing. The main method adopted this study was literature analysis and case study on traditional architecture. This study did the followings; First, it reviewed literature about aesthetic characteristics of Korean traditional architecture and severance problems in modern housing. Second, it identified the main aesthetic characteristics of Korean traditional architecture to lessen severance problems in modern housing in the context of severance among people, architecture and nature. Third, it applied the analyzed aesthetic characteristics of Korean traditional architecture to modern housing and showed the housing design example.

Recent decreased number of family members have caused at least one spare room which is not used as a bedroom in an apartment house. In addition, people who need an apartment house cannot be satisfied with the typical unit plan any more, and rather request more various types of living space. Based on this kind of housing needs trend, we would like to analyze and classify dwelling unit planning methods which may create particular purpose extra rooms to satisfy their unique needs and to give characteristics and individualities by means of study on various cases. As a result of this study, we could find the following planning methods which can produce extra rooms : 1) Utilization of optional plan between living room and adjacent bedrooms, 2) Utilization of optional plan on master bedroom zone, 3) Insertion of transitional space and Utilization of spare space, 4) Insertion of a space for housewives near a kitchen, 5) Positive utilization of a balcony space. This study is also trying to show many unit plan cases of which planning methods can be applied in other cases.

It was investigated to apply the information of the satellite imagery to the field of urban planning. Built-up area and road area are very important factors in the field of urban planning. To extract these information from the satellite imagery, landcover classes were categorized into the 4 classes, exterior space, built-up area, vegetation and shadow. And it was discussed what is needed for landcover classifications and essential factors on the information extraction.

The demand for residential space is encompassing diverse ranges to keep pace with the times. Due to the Increase in wealth, people today want more functional and physical well being as well as giving more weight to the emotional aspect in spatial planning. This study paid special attention on the psychological effect of color--especially difference of warm/cold temperature--and the individual variation on favorable colors. 1. For a communal space (e.g. living rooms), subjects showed high preference of YR range of colors and warm colors. 2. For an individual space (e.g. bedrooms), subjects showed high preference of GY range of colors and neutral colors. 3. For a sanitary space (e.g. bathrooms), subjects showed high preference of PB and B ranges of colors, and cold colors. 4. For all of the above spaces, subjects showed high preference of warm colors.

This study aims to analyze the current status and characteristics of apartment house unit plans towards spatial differentiation. The 172 house units from 32 housing complexes were selected for this analysis. In this study, factors of residential space plan especially in an apartment house are categorized into general characteristics on floor plan and factors for spatial floor plan. The Primary findings are as follows: (1) General characteristics on floor plan are analyzed based on space organization, area and number of bays. Among apartment houses over 40 pyeong, it seems that differentiation is well applied with various space plans available. (2) A result of an analysis on the factors for spatial floor plan shows that planning a living room with two-open-sides seems to be more common in the tower-shaped apartment blocks which are now on the increase. Moreover, many of them are adopting movable partitions to reflect resident's various demands on space plan. Among all, the extra kitchen in the balcony is planned high portion of 80.4%. And diningroom is positioned on the front side of the residential space along with a livingroom(19.2%). More frequently, dining area tends to face the living room(30.2%) according to the result. Besides dress rooms begin to be placed in each of the bedroom, once planned in one bedroom only while 18.6% of the apartment houses are placing new storages in the entrance to solve lack of storage space due to balcony extension.

The purpose of this study is to find out the leisure activity for middle-aged from 45-65 living in the house. The survey had been conducted in 135 respondents with Questionnaire during September 25th to October 7th, 2006. Frequency, Cluster Analysis and Cross tabulation were obtained from the data using SPSS program. The Questionnaire consists of leisure activity and leisure location based on 3 properties of leisure. The results of this study are as follows. First, frequency the respondents is differed by demographic characteristics. Those who have higher level of education, subjective economic power and are younger were more active. Second, the leisure activity in the house is higher in passive on 1st, intellectual and emotional on 2nd, mass media and social activity on 3rd property. Respondents regard home as not a active space but a relax space. Third, the most preferred location in the house for leisure is living-room. Next, master-room and dinning-kichen are. Because of women who spend time more than men in living. Therefore, designing living space for elderly is considered various leisure type of residents.
