  • A taxonomic study of the genus Cafius Curtis in Korea is presented. The world-wide genus Cafius containing 45 species is restricted to seacoasts. Five species are recognized, three of which are reported for the first time in Korea [C. algrum (Sharp), C. mimulus (Sharp), C. rufescens Sharp]. A key, descriptions, and drawings of diagnostic characters of known Korean Cafius species are presented.

  • A taxonomic study on the freshwater harpacticoids of the genus Canthocamptus has been accomplished as one of the serial researches on the family Canthocarnptidae in South Korea. As a result of it, a total of seven species of the genus are listed, two of which are new to Korean fauna: C. kitaurensis Kikuchi and C. macrosetifer Ishida. Additional materials of five species belonging to Canthocamptus mirabilis species group are recorded. A key to the seven species of the genus Canthocamptus known from Korea is prepared.

  • The tribe Rhyparini is one of the well-known termitophilous tribes in Aphodiinae. The genus Rhyparus has the largest number of species in the tribe Rhyparini, and only one species, Rhyparus azumai Nakane, 1956 was recorded in Korea. In this study, we report Rhyparus helophoroides Fairmaire, 1893 from Korea for the first time. Diagnosis, photographs of diagnostic characters, key to the Korean Rhyparus, and brief ecological information of the species are provided.

  • The morphological characters were observed in six taxa in the genus Dioscorea of Korea (D. polystachya, D. japonica, D. nipponica, D. quinqueloba, D. tenuipes, and D. dokoro). The underground structure and the formation of bulbil were useful characters for separating sect. Enanatiophyllum from sect. Stenophora. The important characters for discriminating taxonomic entities were as follows: the position of the anther and the shape of the pistil in the microstructural characters, including the protuberance of the base of the petiole, the shape and color of the flower, the shape of the fruit, and the shape of the seed wing. Based on the results, a key to Korean Dioscorea is provided and the distribution of these species in Korea is described.

  • Eight species of the genus Stenus Latreille are documented for the first time in Korea. Among them, three species, Stenus burjaetus Puthz, S. depressus Puthz and S. gibbicollis J. Sahlberg, are recorded for the first time in the Korean peninsula. And five species, S. coronatus coronatus L. Benick, S. decoratus L. Benick, S. koreanus Puthz, S. rugipennis Sharp and S. sharpi Bernhauer and Schubert, are newly recorded in South Korea. The adult photographs, illustrations of aedeagus and male sternite IX of them, and a taxonomic key of Korean Stenus species are presented.

  • The present study on the classified and distribution of Korean marine archeogastropods is mainly based on the materials which were collected by the authors from July, 1979 to August, 1988 to 60 localities in the south Korean continental shelf. In addition to the 52 species and 8 subspecies of archeogastropods that have been reported from Korean waters, 9 species are found to be new to the fauna of Korea ; Diodora sieboldii (Reeve), Montfortula pulchra A. Adams, Colisella langfordi Habe, Notoacmea gloriosa Habe, Mesoclanculus ater (Pilsbry) , Cantharidus hirasei (Pilsbry), Guildfordia triumphans (Pilsbry), Tristichotrochus aculeatus (Sowerby), Homalopoma sangarense(Schrenck). The Korean marine archeogatropod fauna comprises 4 suborders, 5 superfamilies 10 families , 61 species and 8 subspecies. The authors listed the scienfic name of the korean archeogastropods in correct and described the unrcorded species from korea with keys to species and families.

  • The taxa of Dryopteris subg. Erythrovariae are variable in morphology, resulting in taxonomic confusion in delimiting taxon boundaries. We examined the morphological characteristics of the Korean members of subg. Erythrovariae to clarify their taxonomic identities and relationships. The shapes of the blades, pinnae, and pinnule apices, the shapes and colors of the scales, and the positions of sori were useful for delimiting the Korean taxa of the subgenus. Based on the results of this study and evidence from previous studies, 13 taxa comprising 12 species and one variety of Dryopteris subg. Erythrovariae were recognized in Korea. Descriptions of all Korean taxa of the subg. Erythrovariae and a key to the species are provided. The descriptions presented here are based on field observations and the examination of some 1,000 specimens from the major herbaria of the world.

  • The Korean byozoans belonging to the Smittinidae, collected at 15 localities from the South Sea during the period from 1969 to 1991, were studied taxonomically. They are found to consist of eleven species, including one new species, Parasmfttfna contraria sp. nov. Of remaining 10 species, following four are known to be new to the Korean fauna: Smittfna malleolus, Parasmittfna elongata, Parasmittina crosslandf and Smfttofdea t-eticulata. Up to now, it is known that the Korean Smittinidae comprises 21 recorded species, including 19 species found from the South Sea. Eleven species are dealt with in the present report, with presentation of keys to the species of each genus, and photographic illustrations for the new species and tliose new to the Korean fauna.
