  • Persistent instability following an acute lateral ankle sprain eventually require ligamentous reconstruction in some cases. Over 50 surgical procedures have been described to reestablish lateral ankle stability varying from direct in situ repair of the anterior talofibular ligament and the calcaneofibular ligament to augmented reconstructions with either autograft or allograft tissue. The author describes the rationale and the technique of anatomic ankle ligament reconstruction with the 4th extensor digitorum longus tendon.

  • Purpose: To investigate the effects of an 8 weeks of plyometric training on the total work of knee and ankles Joint. Methods: Nine university man aged 20$\~$22 years was divided in 2 group. Exercisers (N=5) performing plyometrics (pike jump, double leg hop, double leg bound, single leg hop, stride jump cross over, alternate leg bound, box jump) for 8 weeks. Controls (N=4) maintained their usual activities. The total work of knee and ankle joint were tested prior to and after the training. Results: Plyometric training resulted in significantly greater in the total work of high speed of knee and ankle motion(p<0.05). Conclusions: The plyometric training were partially improved the total work of flexion and extension on the ankle joint. Also plyometric training could influence athletic performance.

  • Ultrasonographic diagnosis and treatment in Orthopaedic fields had been widely used. Sonographic diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle is convenient because of anatomical characteristics. The knowledge of the anatomy and biomechanics in foot and ankle area can help to diagnose and treat the disease around foot and ankle. 28 bone and many tendons, ligaments and muscles are consist of ankle and foot joint and the coordinative relation among these structures can allow the dual function, weight bearing and locomotion of ankle and foot during gait cycle. Foot and ankle have small room for many structures, so systemically physical examination is essential for diagnosis. Accurate understanding of foot and ankle anatomy and biomechanics could be helpful to using ultrasonograph.
