  • In the modem power distribution systems, there are lots of zero-phase current harmonics in the neutral power line due to much usages of the controlled switching devices, various semiconductor power converting systems, OA(Office Automation) equipments, PC etc. In order to minimize the current harmonics a zero-phase neutral line current eliminating reactor (NHER) is designed and analyzed its performance using the finite element program. For the design of NHER a program is developed using C++ program. To verify the program a case model(380/220[V], 200[A]) is designed and analyzed by the developed program. As the results of the optimal design, the core loss is reduced by 26[%] with eliminating of the current harmonics. Especially the ninth harmonics is much reduced as compared with the others. When the design of NHER is adapted to the load of the power system, the eliminating effect and efficiency of the device will be much better

  • In this paper, we designed a reconfigurable mixer for microwave broadband receiver. The proposed mixer using a anti-parallel diode is operated as a fundamental mixer or sub-harmonic mixer with respect to a control voltage. A fundamental mixer with a control voltage show a conversion loss of -10 dB, 1 dB compression point of 2.0 dBm at X-band/ Ku-band. On the other hand, it is performed as a sub-harmonic mixer with a conversion loss of -17 dB, 1 dB compression point of 2.0 dBm at Ka-band.

  • A potential-based panel method has been developed for numerical computation of wave resistance on a hybrid hydrofoil. Hybrid hydrofoil is composed of a main body, two struts and two hydrofoils. The main body, which is assumed to be an axisymmetric body for the present analysis, is normally used to support displacement of a body with its buoyancy. Normal dipoles and the sources are distributed on the body(main body, struts, hydrofoils) and the sources are distributed on the free surface. Linearized free surface and the radiation conditions are satisfied using the fourth order finite difference operator and the semi-linear pressure Kutta condition is used for the numerical computation of the hydrofoils. Poisson type free surface condition has been used for the numerical computation and hyperboloidal panel method has been used for better numerical accuracy. To verify this numeric method, model tests are performed in circulation water channel. From the comparison of experimental results with numeric ones, the present method can be used as a useful tool for the design of high speed vessels.

  • By introducing a body potential, the high-oder spectal method of Dommermuth and Yue(1987) is extended to treat the nonlinear interactions between the free surface and the submerged cylinder. A 2-dimensional numerical wave tank is developed based on this numerical scheme, and applied to the wave resistance problem and the wave maker problem. In the simulations, it is shown that the transient waves due to the impulsive start of the body motion make a practical obstacle to the acquisition of useful data from the numerical experiments. Gradual starting procedures are devised, and successful result of the quasi-steady state or the uniform regular wave group was obtained. Within the author's present knowledge, the present numerical scheme is one of the most efficient numerical schemes which can treat the nonlinear interactions between the free surface and the body motion in time-domain.

  • Performance of direct seeded upland field Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briquet in Southern areas of Korea was evaluated at different seeding methods (drilling and broadcasting) and seeding rates (1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5$\ell$/10a). There were no differences in the yield components such as length of stem and ear diameter of stem number of branch, internode and ear, and yield of fresh and dry stem between the seeding methods with drilling and broadcasting, but yield components such as length of stem and ear, diameter of stem, number of brench, internode and ear, and yield of fresh and dry stem increased with seeding rates of from 2.5$\ell$/10a to 3.5$\ell$/10a. Therefore optimum rates and methods of sowing were from 2.5$\ell$/10a to 3.5$\ell$/10a with seeding at the drilling and broadcasting.

  • Breaking waves were generated in a 2-D flume. A piston-type wavemaker was operated in accordance with signals which consist of elementary harmonics with appropriate phase differences. These phase differences were estimated by using a linear wave theory so that wave crests were to be concentrated at the same position. The stroke of wavemaker was controlled to create plunging-type breaking waves. The signal with small amplitude could not generate breaking waves. In the case of moderate amplitudes, various breaking waves could be obtained. Most of breaking waves were spilling type. Only when the wavemaker was operated with appropriate amplitude, plunging-type breaking waves were generated. The parameters of breaking waves are the wave steepness and the frequency bandwidth. If the central frequency was low, breaking waves were not generated. Based on experimental data, we found that the wave height of breaking inception was H = 0.0113 gT$^2$. We also made computations by using a mixed Euler-Lagrangian scheme under the assumption of potential flow. The numerical results show good agreements with tank measurements.

  • When conducting movable bed tests in a narrow wave tank, the hydrodynamics and morphology are assumed to be two-dimensional; hence, any three-dimensional patterns such as cross-tank variations of the profiles are neglected or averaged to represent the mean profiles at the measuring time. In this paper, six movable bed tests were carried out with a fairly fine sand to investigate (1) whether or not three-dimensional features can occur in relatively narrow wave tanks, and (2) various possible interrelationships and causes of the three-dimensionality. These movable bed studies suggested that there was a relatively slow feedback between the hydrodynamics and the morphology that led to initiation and growth of 3-D morphological features, resulting in cross-tank profile variations under certain stages of profile development, especially when the profile approached an equilibrium with overall stability.

  • In this study, the performance of irregular wave field generation of olaFlow is first verified by comparing the frequency spectrum of the generated waves by the wave-source using olaFlow and the target wave. Based on the wave performance of irregular waves of olaFlow, the characteristics of the velocity field including the average flow velocity, longshore current and turbulent kinetic energy around the three-dimensional permeable submerged breakwaters, which act as the main external forces of the salient formation, are numerically investigated. The numerical results show that as the gap width between breakwaters decreases, the wave height in the center of the gap increases and as the gap width between breakwaters increases, the longshore currents become stronger. As a result, it is possible to understand the formation of the salient formed behind the submerged breakwaters.

  • As the low labor-productivity is being floated up to be the most limiting factor in barley cropping, the endeavor of many researchers concerned have been concentrated on recovering from that. For this reason, in this experiment 8 kinds of sowing methods were employed to survey the yield productivity and the labor-requirement of each methods. And with promising the possibility of consistent mechanization, both prediction of the assurable requirement of labor investment and calculation of the labor productivity in each method were estimated so that the possibility of labor-saving in barley cultivation investigated. Also sowing methods for labor-saving cultivation were presented according to the labor-structure of farm as divided with the phases.

  • Wave drag reduction due to the repetitive laser induced energy deposition over a flat-nosed cylinder is experimentally conducted in this study. Irradiated laser pulses are focused by a convex lens installed in side of the in-draft wind tunnel of Mach 1.94. The maximum frequency of the energy deposition is limited up to 80. Time-averaged drag force is measured using a low friction piston which was backed by a load cell in a cavity as a controlled pressure. Stagnation pressure history, which is measured at the nose of the model, is synchronized with corresponding sequential schlieren images. With cylinder model, amount of drag reduction is linearly increased with input laser power. The power gain only depends upon the pulse energy. A drag reduction about 21% which corresponds to power gain of energy deposition of approximately 10 was obtained.
