Performance Improvement and Validation of Advanced Safety Injection Tanks (신형안전주입탱크의 성능개선 및 검증)

  • Advanced SITs of the evolutionary PWRs have the advantage that they can passively control the ECC water discharge flow rate. Thus, the LPSI pumps can be eliminated from the safety injection system owing to the benefit of the advanced SITs. In the present study, a passive sealing plate was designed in order to overcome the shortcoming of the advanced SITs, i.e., the early nitrogen discharge through the stand pipe. The operating principle of the sealing plate depends only on the natural phenomena of buoyancy and gravity. The performance of the sealing plate was evaluated using the VAPER test facility, equipped with a full-scale SIT. It was verified that the passive sealing plate effectively prevented the air discharge during the entire duration of the ECC water discharge. Also, the major performance parameters of the advanced SIT were not changed with the installation of the sealing plate.

  • Atmospheric pressure in a tunnel rises in proportion to the square of train’s speed as it enters a tunnel. This pressure difference propagates into the train and cause aural discomfort to the passengers. In order to alleviate the aural discomfort of them. a new ventilation system has been designed and tested. This system controls the charged and discharged by flow rate by detecting the air pressure generated outside and inside of the train. Test to confirm the fundamental performance of the system was carried out. Consequently, this system was found to be able to alleviate the aural discomfort effectively. Application of the system to TGV-K running in the speed range of 350km/h is considered to have good propospect.

  • This paper demonstrates that centralized economic load dispatch optimization is much more economical than independent optimization carried out by individual power generating companies. The algorithm applied here optimizes by balancing the generation power at the valve-point, then readjusting generation power by comparing incremental operating cost incurred by marginal increase in the generation power and decremental operating cost likewise incurred by marginal decrease in the generation power. Upon comparing 3 individual optimization cases of 10, 13, and 40 generators respectively with centralized optimization of 63 generators, centralized operation for economic load dispatch optimization has proven to maximize economic benefits by markedly reducing operation costs of individual optimization.

  • Pipe network of hot water heat supply system in an apartment house was analyzed. Flowrate and supply heat capacity of each household in which constant flowrate balancing valve is installed in a single zone system were calculated and the results were investigated. In the existing piping system, the non-uniformity of heat supply with floors due to the static pressure and temperature difference between supply main and return main can not be avoided and this tendency get intense with the increase of the height of building. The non-uniformity of heat supply can be prevented by the installation of balancing valve at each household, however if the performance of supply pump is not sufficient to overcome the energy loss due to the installation of balancing valve for constant flow rate or if the selection of the valve capacity is not adequate, the valves will may lose their controllability.

  • Precise control of oxidizer mass flow rate is important for hybrid rocket thrust control. In this study, oxidizer mass flow rate control system is developed by using stepping motor which is controlled by Labview program. Gox is used for oxidizer and PolyCarbonate, PolyEthylene, and PMMA is used for solid propellant. To suppress thrust oscillation during thrust control experiment, schematics of the experiment is analysised and revised. Results show that thrust oscillation is suppressed successfully.

  • In this paper, KSLV-I flight test data and critical design results of filling operation for liquid oxygen filling system are compared to validate the reliability of the critical design modeling. Applying the filling and operation conditions on the critical design modeling, comparison of major flow rates and pressure values between test data and calculation results are conducted.

  • The most typical fuel control devices of motorcycle engines have carburetors, they are simple in structure and reliable in work. Most of the motorcycle engines have used carburetors in the fuel system, but the fuel economy and the emissions of those engines are bad when we compared with automobile engines. According to stricter emission regulations and higher requirements for fuel economy, the application of the carburetor on the motorcycle engines would be limited. In this paper, we studied about the ECU of motorcycle engine controled by indirect method. A new engine system was designed and experiments were carried out. The experimental results for both carburetor type and ECU type were compared. Maximum torque of $1.053kg{\cdot}m$ at 6500rpm was measured. The engine torque controled using ECU was increased by $10\%$ compared with the carburetor type.

  • Controlled auto ignition (CAI) combustion, also known as HCCI (homogeneous charge compression ignition), offers the potential to simultaneously improve fuel economy and reduce emission. CAI-combustion was achieved in a single cylinder gasoline DI engine, with a cylinder running in a CAI mode. Standard components were used the camshafts which had been modified in order to restrict the gas exchange process. The effects of air-fuel ratio, residual EGR rate and injection timing such as early injection and late injection on the attainable CAI combustion region were investigated. The effect that injection timings on factor such as start of combustion, combustion duration and heat release rate was also investigated. From results early injection caused the mixture to ignite earlier and burn more quickly due to the exothermic reaction during the recompression and gave rise to good mixing of the fuel-air.

  • Solid propulsion systems have simple structures compared to other propulsion systems and are suitable to long-term storage. However the systems generally have limits on control of thrust levels. In this paper we suggest control algorithms for combustion chamber pressure of variable thrust solid propulsion systems using special nozzles such as pintle valve. For this we use a simple pressure change model by considering only mass conservation within the combustion chamber, design a classical algorithm and also a nonlinear controller using feedback linearization technique. Derived thrust equation and designe a thrust control model. We design the proportion-integral controller for linearizing about operating point. We also demonstrate the performance of controller model through numerical simulations.

  • 일반적으로 집이나 건물이 지어진 후 약 2~3년이 지나면 수도관 내부에는 물때, 미생물, 유기화합물질 등이 혼합되어 슬라임(slime)이 발생하며, 노후화되어 슬러지(sludge) 형태로 누적 되거나 스케일(scale)이 발생하고 있다. 이러한 이물질의 누적으로 인하여 수도관이 손상되거나, 여러 가지 원인으로 인하여 교체해야하는 상황이 발생할 수 있다. 이러한 이유로 저수조나 공용관의 경우에는 정기적으로 세척하고 있으며, 일반 가정 내의 수도관 역시 정기적인 관리가 필요하다고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 적절한 배관청소기의 제어를 위하여 물과 압축공기의 배합을 적절하게 제어하도록 하여 배관내부의 이물질을 제거할 수 있는 배관청소시스템을 설계하고자 하며, 밸브조절 및 물의 공급시간과 압축공기의 유입시간에 대한 적절한 제어를 원격지에서 제어할 수 있도록 배관청소시스템을 개발하여 성능에 관한 평가와 사업화 가능성을 제시하고자 한다.
