  • HwaSungSungYouk was one of the construction project in viewpoint of today's construction management and various information how to build the HwaSung at the last of the eighteen century had been recored in HwaSungSungYoukEuGye. The purpose of this study is to analyse the HwaSungSungYoukEuGye' management technic in viewpoint of today's construction management. In the record, there are a lot of informtion relate to record management, time management, cost management, etc. and the concept of the managements can be applied to today's construction project effectively. The concept and detail of the HwaSungSungYouk's project management should be analysed more.

  • The HwaSungSungYouk is one of the construction project in viewpoint of today's construction management and various information how to build the HwaSung at the last of the eighteen century had been recorded in HwaSungSungYoukEuGye. The purpose of this study is to analyse the data in HwaSungSungYoukEuGye in viewpoint of today's construction management for estimating the resources of PalDal-mun construction. In the record, there are a 10t of information relate to time management, cost management and human resource management, and the concept of modern construction management will be also use to figure out the construction data of the HwaSungSungYoukEuGye.

A Case Analysis on the Time Management of the HwaSung Construction Project in Choseon Dynasty (조선시대 화성성역의 공정관리 사례분석)

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze the construction management capacity of Choseon Dynasty and suggest a new interpretation on the construction capacity of the time management by reviewing the time management case during a representative construction project, HwaSungk construction project implemented in the latter period of Choseon Dynasty around 200 years ago. which was described in HwaSungSungYoukEuGye. The analysis results of the time management capacity during the latter period of Choseon Dynasty depicted in the HwaSungSungYoukEuGye is summarized as follows: (1) It took 2 years and 6 months to complete the Hwasung construction project. However, all of the single buildings were constructed within 6 months, a relatively short period of time. Judging from the fact, it can be assumed that the construction techniques using wood of the time were very sophisticated. (2) When the HwaSung was constructed, it took a relatively short period of time to complete works from placing the foundation to erecting columns and to placing a crossbeam on the columns. Based on the fact, it can be also inferred that assembly processing techniques of the time were also sophisticated and the level of member processing and assembling techniques of the time was considerably good as well. (3) The HwaSung construction was continued throughout the year without any influence by weather conditions, which tells us that division of labor by work was performed, and it was possible to mobilize labor force for the construction project even during the busy farming seasons.

  • The purpose of this study is not only to show up the fact which a kind of construction management was applied during the ancient Korea, especially, Chosun Dynasty but also to understand its construction capacity by analysing various information. mainly collected from the book, HwaSungSungYouk-EuGye. The book was made by ChungCho who was one of the great kings Choson Dynasty, which has lots of information about how to build HwaSung during the last of the eighteen century. This study starts from the definition that the HwaSungSungYouk was one of the construction projects which is the concept for construction management today. The construction project can be defined in terms of its distinctive characteristics: a project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product. Temporary means that every project has a definite beginning and a definite end. Unique means the product is different in some distinguishing way from all similar products. A project is also undertaken several kinds of organizations. They may involve a single person or many thousands. 1'his study is to show some of the effective methods. Firstly, the concept of the database system today can be applied to effectively control and classify the complicated data in the HwaSungSungYouk-EuGye. Secondly, on the basis of the database system, the concept of modem construction management will be also use to figure out the construction data of the HwaSungSungYouk-EuGye.

A Study on Procurement of Construction Materials in the HwaSeong Construction Project (화성건설공사에서 자재의 조달방법 연구)

  • HwaSeong (Suwon Fortress) was built during the reign of King Jeong-jo in the Choseon Dynasty. Detailed information on the construction of HwaSeong can be found in Hwaseong Seongyeok Euigui. In this sense, it is necessary to perform a comparative analysis on the Hwaseong Seongyeok Euigui based on construction management factors. This paper aims to analyze the HwaSeong construction project from a modern construction perspective by comparing and reviewing information related to the procurement of construction materials of the time. For this, wooden and steel materials and tiles were analyzed by supply area, supply channel, type and price. From the results of the analysis, it is found that the government used both private and official channels to supply materials. In particular, except for wooden materials that could be supplied from Bongsan, the supply of materials showed a high dependency on private channels. In terms of steel, it was almost 30 percent cheaper through private channels than when purchased through the official channel. Finally, materials vulnerable to damage like tiles were manufactured from the areas near the construction site. From this fact it can be interpreted that the government had a flexible procurement system, including manufacturing on the spot and external suppliers,depending on the property of the material. It is expected these analytical results will serve as key data to understand the management factors in constructing HwaSeong.

A Modern Interpretation of the Resources Required for the Construction of Paldal-mun in the Joseon Dynasty through the Analysis of HwaSungSungYouk-EuGye (화성성역의궤 분석을 통한 조선시대 팔달문 건설 소요자원의 현대적 해석)

  • Although detailed information on the construction of Hwasung was recorded in the Hwasungsungyouk-eugye, analysis and evaluation from the perspective of modern construction management were limited. Therefore, in this study, construction management related information such as time, cost, and manpower was analyzed for Paldal-mun. The main work involved in the construction of Paldal-mun was foundation work and masonry work, and the total construction period was 6 months, with the overall construction progressing very quickly. The total cost of the construction of Paldal-mun was about 52,423 Nyong, which can be divided into about 15,9332 Nyang for materials and 36,4901 Nyang for labor cost. Converting these to present value, the material cost is about 1.1 billion won and the labor cost is about 2.5 billion won, and the sum of these is about 3.6 billion won. In the future, we plan to conduct additional research in this area such as deriving detailed input manpower related to the work period for each type of work.

Regional Characteristics of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ during the Late $Chos{\breve{o}}n$ Era as Seen through the <$Y{\breve{o}}jitos{\breve{o}}$> ("여지도서"를 이용한 조선후기 제언의 지역적 특성 연구)

  • $Che{\breve{o}}n$ (提堰) refers to the irrigation facilities used to provide water to the land on which rice is farmed. As the maintenance of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ required great amounts of capital, labor, and technology, the construction and maintenance of such facilities was controlled by the government. $Che{\breve{o}}n$ was perceived as being of particular importance during the $Che{\breve{o}}n$ era, which adopted agriculture as the basis of state management. Therefore, the management of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ was considered to be one of the main state policies. This is why $Che{\breve{o}}n$-related records can often be found in the historical documents written during the $Che{\breve{o}}n$ era. As such historical documents in the form of Jiriji (地理誌, geographical descriptions) include detailed descriptions of the number, size, and location of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ in individual counties($kunby{\breve{o}}n$), these help to conduct comprehensive analysis of the state of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ during the $Che{\breve{o}}n$ era. Based on these facts, this study attempts to establish a database of the $Che{\breve{o}}n$-related contents included in the <$Y{\breve{o}}jitos{\breve{o}}$(與地圖書)> published during the latter period of $Che{\breve{o}}n$, and using the established database, to identify the regional characteristics of $Che{\breve{o}}n$. More precisely, by analyzing the state of the distribution of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ at the national level, an effort was made to review the regional characteristics of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ in terms of their distribution and of the natural geographical conditions found in the locales where $Che{\breve{o}}n$ were located, as well as of the interrelation between such $Che{\breve{o}}n$ and socioeconomic factors such as the scale of the population and the size of the area under cultivation. Other factors which were delved into included matters related to the size of $Che{\breve{o}}n$ such as their perimeter, length, and scale of the area which they irrigated, the characteristics of the locales where $Che{\breve{o}}n$ were located, and the regional differences in the characteristics of $Che{\breve{o}}n$.

A Study on the Effective Method for Linking Time Series Triangulation Points (시계열 삼각점의 효율적인 연계방안에 대한 연구)

  • The national geodetic control point is very important as a framework for drafting plans for construction and civil engineering works as well as mapping for various development and utilization plans related to the national land. Since the 1910s, Korea has established and managed the national geodetic control points, the triangulation points and the benchmarks. Currently, these point information is provided through the land information platform. The national geodetic control point has been changed through the process of loss, re-establishment, and re-location by the events and environment of the times. Therefore, it is very important to provide information by linking these past national geodetic control points in time series. In this study, we classified the triangulation points into five groups(Japanese Government General of Korea, YUCCA Project, National Construction Institute, Past Control Point Data Sheet, and Current) by age and then suggests a method to match the same control points in each time period. Finally we also applied the proposed method to Jecheon and analyzed the results.

A Study of the Historical Significance of Reclamation and How to Preserve and Utilize Reclamation of Cultural Heritage -Focusing on modern and contemporary reclamation sites in the Saemangeum area- (간척의 역사적 의미와 간척문화유산의 보존·활용 방안 연구 - 새만금 지역 근·현대 간척 시설을 중심으로 -)

  • Reclamation is the act of creating new lands by constructing dikes in offshore tidal flats to utilize them for various purposes, including the establishment of farmland to secure food for an increasing population. Based on the fact that reclamation has resulted in drastic changes in the environmental, economic, social, and cultural aspects of land expansion and development, population movement, and the formation of cities since ancient times, I reviewed the value of reclamation sites and addressed the issue of how to preserve and utilize them. "Reclamation culture" refers collectively to the recognition and concept system, behavior styles, and cultural products created by changes in the environment, and the tangible, intangible, and natural heritage generated directly and indirectly by reclamation is defined as "reclamation cultural heritage". It shows that the historical background of reclamation accords with prevailing trends, and that the reclamation sites possess cultural heritage value due to their historical, academic, and scarce characteristics. Numerous reclamation cultural heritage sites at the Gwangwhal and Gyehwa dikes are on the verge of being destroyed, with their original function having ended after the construction of Saemangeum Sea Wall. I propose measures to preserve these under the principle that utilization is based on the basic premise of conservation. First of all, modern and contemporary reclamation sites must necessarily be designated and managed as registered cultural properties, local cultural heritage, future heritage, and agricultural heritage. In particular, as it has been confirmed that reclamation sites created after the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties and the 1950s have not been designated as cultural heritage sites. It is necessary to review the characteristics and values of such reclamation sites through a full survey of national reclamation data. Effective and sustainable utilization of reclamation cultural heritage, which has not been acknowledged in the past due to its close relationship with our lives, is necessary to search for hidden stories found within that heritage, to organize governance for the efficient use of reclamation resources, and to build a museum to collect and display the history and culture of the reclaimed areas. Finally, through links with countries with experience in reclamation, we will be able to cope jointly with international issues such as those pertaining to society, culture, and environment, and would be able to implement various projects to further the advancement of human beings.
