  • 세계는 지금 지구 온난화 및 화석연료의 고갈로 인해 대체 에너지 자원의 확보문제가 급속히 대두되고 있다. 이에 조류발전은 오염이 발생하지 않는 친환경 에너지원으로서, 날씨나 계절에 상관없이 항상 발전할 수 있는 신뢰성 있는 에너지이며, 높은 밀도를 가지는 작동유체가 수차에 미치는 영향 또한 크므로 지속적으로 예측이 가능한 장점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 조류에너지는 실 해역에 적용하기 위해서는 전격유효 전력이 생산 가능한 지리적 요인에 대한 고찰과 더불어 조류발전 터빈의 개념설계가 고려되어야 한다. 본 연구는 다양한 설치 공간을 형성할 수 있으며, 장, 단점이 보완될 수 있는 조류발전 터빈의 개념설계 연구 단계로서, 내부 유동 특성을 고려하여 입구를 설계하였으며, 일정한 속도로 유입되는 유량을 노즐의 장착을 통해 에너지 밀도를 높일 수 있게 된다. 이러한 개념형상 설계로 추가 작동이나, 장치의 사용 없이 양방향 발전이 가능해 진다.

Software Development for the Performance Evaluation and Blade Design of a HACT by BEMT (블레이드요소 운동량 이론에 의한 수평축 조류발전용 터빈 블레이드 설계 및 성능평가 소프트웨어 개발)

  • In this study, we have established the design techniques, with which we can design and evaluate performance of blades on a horizontal axis current turbine, by application of blade element momentum theory considering the blade tip's loss model, and finally developed the domestic software(MCT-blade V2.0). We have designed and evaluated performance of blades for the 2MW class by using of the software, and confirmed its calculation results from BEMT by comparing those results from commercial code of ANSYS FLUENT. In a state of rated velocity 2.5m/s, the mechanical power from BEMT is calculated as 2,121kW, which is considered to satisfy the electrical power, but the value from CFD is calculated as 1,901kW, which is considered a little deficient for the target output.

  • 지구온난화에 따른 대체에너지 자원확보가 국가적으로 중요한 과제로 대두되고 있고 여러 대체에너지원 중 국내의 해양에너지는 잠재량이 매우 높다. 여러 해양에너지 중에서 빠른 흐름을 이용하는 조류발전은 서해안과 남해안에 적용하기에 적합하며 해양환경을 보존하면서 많은 에너지를 생산할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 조류발전에서 1차적으로 에너지를 변환시키는 로터는 주요한 장치중의 하나로 여러 변수에 의해 그 성능이 결정된다. 로터의 블레이드 수, 형상, 단면적, 허브, 직경 등 여러 요소를 고려하여 설계되어야 한다. 또한 조류발전을 적용하는 해양환경에서 최대 출력을 생산할 수 있는 로터가 적용될 수 있도록 블레이드의 후류 영향을 고려해야한다. 본 논문에서는 날개요소이론을 바탕으로 수평축 조류발전 터빈을 설계하여 실험 및 유동해석을 통해 성능을 평가하고, 후류에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.

  • 최근 정부의 RPS(신재생에너지 의무할당제, Renewable Energy Portplio Standard) 확대 시행과 신재생 3020 정책에 맞물려 정부뿐만 아니라 기업체의 신재생에너지 발전설비용량과 발전량의 확대가 요구되는 시점이다. 특히 조류에너지는 환경친화적이며 지속가능한 에너지원으로서 그 관심이 더욱 커지고 있다. 그러나 조류발전 후보지는 유속이 매우 빠르고, 설치가 어려워 그에 따른 제반사항들이 다른 에너지원에 비해 상대적으로 많다는 단점이 있어, 조류발전단지 구축 시에는 후보지를 선정하고 타당성 조사를 수행하는 과정이 매우 중요하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 최대의 조류에너지를 얻을 수 있는 해역을 선정하여 조류발전단지를 설계하고 후류의 특성을 분석하였다. 먼저 전자해도의 상세 수심 자료를 추출해 상용 프로그램인 ADCIRC 프로그램에 실제 지형을 수치 모형화하였고, 잠재적 에너지 분포가 높은 해역에 1MW급 수평축 조류발전 터빈을 설계하여 적용하였다. 또한 조류발전단지 내의 터빈의 배치 방법(Centered, Staggered Layout)에 따른 후류의 특성을 분석하여 연간 전력 생산량을 계산하였다.

  • As the problems of global warming are brought up recently, many skillful solutions for developing new renewable energy are suggested. One of the most remarkable things is ocean energy. Korea has abundant ocean energy resources owing to geographical characteristics surrounded by sea on three sides, thus the technology of commercialization about tidal current power, wave power is demanded. Especially, Tidal energy conversion system is a means of maintaining environment naturally. Tidal current generation is a form to produce electricity by installing rotors, generators to convert a horizontal flow generated by tidal current into rotating movement. According to rotor direction, a tidal current turbine is largely distinguished between horizontal and vertical axis shape. Power capacity depends on the section size crossing a rotor and tidal current speed. We therefore investigated three dimensional flow analysis and performance evaluation using commercial ANSYS-CFX code for an 100 kW class horizontal axis turbine for low water level. Then We also studied three dimensional flow characteristics of a rotating rotor and blade surface streamlines around a rotor. As a result, We found that torque increased with TSR, the maximum torque occurred at TSR 3.77 and torque decreased even though TSR increased. Moreover we could get power coefficient 0.38 at designed flow velocity.

Optimal Rotor Blade Design for Tidal In-stream Energy (조류발전용 로터 블레이드의 최적 형상 설계)

  • Marine current energy is one of the most interesting renewable and clean energy resources that have been less exploited. Especially, Korea has worldwide outstanding tidal current energy resources and it is highly required to develop tidal in-stream energy conversion system in coastal area. The objective of study is to investigate harnessing techniques of tidal current energy and to design the a 100 kW horizontal axis tidal turbine using blade element momentum theory with Prandtl's tip loss factor for optimal design procedures. In addition, Influence of Prandtl's tip loss factor at local blade positions as a function of tip speed ratio was studied, and the analysed results showed that power coefficient of designed rotor blade using NACA 63812 was 0.49 at rated tip speed ratio.

  • Recently, due to high oil prices and environmental pollution issues, interest of alternative energy development increases and the related research is widely conducted. Among those research activities the tidal stream power generation utilizes the tidal flow as its mechanical power resource and less depends on the environmental condition for installation and operation than other renewable energy resources. Therefore the amount of power generated is quite consistent and straightforward to predict. However, research on the tidal stream energy conversion turbine is rarely found. In the present study, two numerical methods were developed and compared for the open water Momentum Theory, which is widely used for wind turbines, was adopted. The moving reference frame method for Computational Fluid Dynamis solver were also used. Hybrid meshing was used for the complex geometry of turbines. The analysis results using each method were compared to figure out a better method for the performance prediction.

  • Due to global warming, the need to secure an alternative resource has become more important nationally. Having very strong current on the west coast with up to 10 m tidal range, there are many suitable site for the application of TCP (Tidal Current Power) in Korea. On the south west regions between many islands that create strong current in the narrow channels. The rotor is one of the essential components which can convert tidal current energy into rotational energy to generate electricity. The design optimization of rotor is very important to maximize the power production. The performance of rotor can be determined by various parameters including number of blades, shape, sectional size, diameters and etc. This paper introduces the multi-layer vertical axis tidal current power system which can be applied to offshore jetties and piers effectively. Various cases of VAT turbine were designed. Specifically, the number of blades and turbine shape are changed in several cases. Also, performance analysis was carried out by CFD.

Design and Structural Safety Evaluation of 1MW Class Tidal Current Turbine Blade applied Composite Materials (복합재료를 적용한 1MW급 조류 발전 터빈 블레이드의 설계와 구조 안전성 평가)

  • The rotor blade is an important component of a tidal stream turbine and is affected by a large thrust force and load due to the high density of seawater. Therefore, the performance must be secured through the geometrical and structural design of the blade and the blade structural safety to which the composite material is applied. In this study, a 1 MW class large turbine blade was designed using the blade element momentum (BEM) theory. GFRP is a fiber-reinforced plastic used for turbine blade materials. A sandwich structure was applied with CFRP to lay-up the blade cross-section. In addition, to evaluate structural safety according to flow variations, static load analysis within the linear elasticity range was performed using the fluid-structure interactive (FSI) method. Structural safety was evaluated by analyzing tip deflection, strain, and failure index of the blade due to bending moment. As a result, Model-B was able to reduce blade tip deflection and weight. In addition, safety could be secured by indicating that the failure index, inverse reserve factor (IRF), was 1 or less in all load ranges excluding 3.0*Vr of Model-A. In the future, structural safety will be evaluated by applying various failure theories and redesigning the laminated pattern as well as the change of blade material.

The performance of a rotor can be determined using various parameters, including the number of blades, shape, sectional size, diameter, etc. There are many offshore jetties and piers with high current velocities. Thus, a VAT (vertical axis turbine) system, which can generate power regardless of flow direction changes, could be effectively applied to cylindrical structures. A VAT system could give an advantage to a caisson-type breakwater because it allows water to circulate well. This paper introduces a multi-layer vertical axis tidal current power system. A Savonius turbine was designed, and a performance analysis was carried out using CFD. A physical model was also demonstrated in CWC, and the results are compared with CFD.
