The Effect of Yeast(Saccharomyces exiguus SJPAF1) on Odor Emission and Contaminants Reduction in Piggery Slurry (효모(Saccharomyces exiguus SJPAF1) 첨가에 따른 돈분뇨의 악취제거 및 오염물질 감소 효과)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of yeast(Saccharomyces exiguus SJPAF1, referred to as SA) addition on odor emission and contaminants reduction in piggery sluny. Four different rates of yeast addition were compared: no addition(SA0), 0.7L(SA0.7), 1.0L(SA1.0), and 1.5L(SA1.5) to one tone of piggery slurry. Odor emission tended to decrease with increasing the yeast application with concurrent effects of changes in temperature on outside of reactors. Particularly, reduction in ammonia emission was proportional to the yeast application rate; it reduced from 161.1 ppm in SA0 to 47.1 ppm in SA1.5 after 6 days of treatment Decomposition of piggery shiny by yeast increased to 13.8% more in SA1.5, and total amounts of piggery slurry decreased to 12.5% in SA1.5. Total coliforms were detected below 30MPN $ml^{-1}$ in SA1.5, while $8.3{\times}10^3$ MPN $ml^{-1}$ of Total coliforms were found in SA0. However, the effect of yeast addition in piggery slurry seemed to have no influence on the removal efficiency of contaminants such as BOD, COD, $NO_3^{-}-N$, $NH_4^{+}-N$, $PO_4^{-}P$. Consequently, the yeast(Saccharomyces exiguus SJPAF1) addition of 1.5% in the piggery sluny seems to have potential applicability for improving agent of pig-farm environment.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary yeast (Saccharomyces exguus) supplementation on growth performance, cecal microflora and fecal ammonia gas in broiler chicks. A total of two hundred seventy, 1-d-old male broiler chicks (Ross strain) were randomly allotted to nine pens (replicates), 30 birds per pen. There were three dietary treatments with three replicates. The treatments were control (virginiamycin 0.05%+salinomycin 0.03%), Saccharomyces exguus 0.5 and 1.0%. Total body weight gain were significantly higher in Saccharomyces exguus1 1.0% treatment than the control (P<0.05). Although not significant, the yeast supplementation tended to improve the feed conversion ratio. No significant differences were observed on the numbers of cecal E. coli, Salmonella and Lactobacillus in yeast treatments compared to those of control. The production of fecal ammonia gas was significantly lower in yeast treatments than the control (P<0.05). The concentrations of fecal short chain fatty acids and volatile organic compounds were not different among the groups. These results suggest the possibility that yeast (Saccharomyces exguus) could be used as the alternative of antibiotic growth promoters by improving the performance of broiler chicks. In addition, dietary yeast could improve the environment of broiler houses by reducing fecal ammonia production.

  • The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of Korean mistletoe (KM) on performance and blood characteristics in broiler chickens. A total of four hundred eighty, 1-d-old male broiler chicks (Ross) were divided into 4 groups with 4 replicates of 30 birds each. The treatments were NC (antibiotics-free diet), PC (NC diet added antibiotics), 0.5% KM (NC diet added 0.5% of KM) and 1.0% KM (NC diet added 1.0% of KM), and the birds were raised for 49 days. There were no significant differences in feed intake and body weight gain among treatments. On d 49, the relative length of jejunum in 1.0% KM tended to be increased or significantly (P<0.05) increased compare to those of other groups. On d 35, the colony forming unit of Salmonella spp. of ceca significantly (P<0.05) decreased by feeding KM. The counts of lymphocyte of KM significantly (P<0.05) increased compare to those of the PC.

Antioxidant and Physiological Activities of Coriolus versicolor Fruit Body Crude Extracts (운지버섯(Coriolus versicolor) 자실체 조 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 생리활성 연구)

  • In this research, the total polyphenol and flavonoid contents in the hot water extract (HE) and methanol extract (ME) of the Coriolus versicolor fruiting body and their partial bioactivities were investigated from March, 2015 to February, 2016. For the analysis of the data, the software used was SPSS 2.0. The results indicate that the total polyphenol content in the HE (129.60 mg/dl) was 85,8 mg/dl higher than that in the ME (43.80 mg/dl). The total flavonoid content in the HE (30.50 mg/dl) was 9.5 mg/dl higher than that in the ME (20.90 mg/dl). The DPPH scavenging activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 41.03% and 16.36% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The tyrosinase inhibitory activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 8.29% and 10.32% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The elastase inhibitory activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 3.12% and 21.53% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The collagenase inhibitory activities of the HE and ME at a concentration of 3 mg/ml were 5.44% and 4.07% higher than those at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. In conclusion, these two kinds of extracts are judged to be useful as skin wrinkle relaxants, due to their anti-oxidative and bioactive functions.

A Study on the Feasibility of the Timing for the Implementation of Energy-Saving Plan of Buildings Based on the Approval of Business Plan and Construction Permit (건축물에너지절약계획서의 사업계획승인, 건축허가에 따른 적용시점의 타당성 연구)

  • The delay in the construction permit for the building, which obtained the approval of business proposal, may lead to a difference in the maintenance cost ranging between 20% and 30% in the neighborhood where the residents moved in, along with the new project under construction in the surrounding area amidst rigorous regulations that aim to promote energy-saving and the heightened interest of the public in energy conservation, and such problem would become the major source of serious public complaints. Thus, the energy-saving plan needs to be prepared when the approval is granted to the business plan. In order to prevent public complaints or ensure effectiveness of government's energy plan, it may be effective to apply the energy-saving plan based on current standards upon the award of construction permit when two years have elapsed since the date of the scheduled commencement of construction or when the start of construction is delayed as stipulated in the Article 18 of the Enforcement Decree of Housing Act. If the energy-saving plan and related technologies are merely the parts of license and permit process without fully serving their purposes and functions, it would be waste of time to deploy a lot of workforce and review and seek consultation. The government or owners of buildings need to fully understand the energy-saving aspects and exert effort to enhance the energy efficiency of buildings.

Economic Impact Analysis of Hydrogen Energy Deployment Applying Dynamic CGE Model (동태 CGE 모형을 활용한 수소에너지 보급의 경제적 영향 추정)

  • Hydrogen energy is emphasized as a substitutable energy of carbon-based energy system in the future, since it is non-depletable and clean energy. Long term vision of Korean government on the national energy system is to promote hydrogen energy by 15% of final energy demand until 2040. This study analyzes economic impacts of hydrogen energy development employing a dynamic CGE model for Korea. Frontier technology such as hydrogen energy is featured as slow diffusion at the initial stage due to the learning effect and energy complementarity. Without government intervention, hydrogen energy would be produced upto 6.5% of final energy demand until 2040. However, if government subsidizes sales price of hydrogen energy by 10%, 20%, and 30%, share of hydrogen energy would increase 9.2%, 15.2%, and 37.7% of final energy demand. This result shows that the slow diffusion problem of hydrogen energy as frontier technology could be figured out by market incentive policy. On the other hand, production levels of transportation sector would increase while growth rate of oil and electricity sectors would decline. Household consumption would be affected negatively since increase of consumption due to the price decrease would be overwhelmed by income reduction owing to the increase of tax. Overall, GDP would not decrease or increase significantly since total production, investment, and export would increase even if household consumption declines.

  • The effect of irradiation on the shelf-life of commercial ham products and its quality were investigated during eight weeks storage at $30^{\circ}C$ following 3-8kGy irradiation. Total bacterial count of unirradiated group was proliferated from. $5.4{\times}10^{3}$ per gram of sample to $10^{6}$ after two weeks storage but the bacterial count in irradiated group was propagated to the same level after three to five weeks storage and the growth of coliform group was shown negative. The freshness of stored ham was better in irradiated group than in unirradiated one and the changes in components related to the quality of ham were almost the same between unirradiated and irradiated group. Discoloration and irradiation odor were positive in 8kGy irradiated group according to the sensory test, but 5 kGy irradiated group was not only good in texture but also in the extension of shelf-life to more than two times as compared with that of unirradiated one.

  • With the result of Korean national senior's real life state survey analysis that is triennially conducted based on Article 5 of Welfare of the Aged Act, this study categorized the senior according to age norm cognition, and figured out the characteristic of each category, and analyzed their needs for life satisfaction and hoping activities. Because the senior at present are on higher level of health, education, and economy than 20 to 30 years ago, it is about time to repeat discussion about the policies established in the past in terms of society, culture, industry, welfare, employment, and participation as a convergence approach. As a result of analysis study, the senior divided into three groups:, resignation type, progressiveness type, and saving appearances type. Their life satisfaction level and hoping activities by senior segment groups are different. By results of this study, the preservation of income for senior will be needed, and they don't want volunteer activities so that there are another policy system will be needed to vitalize senior's social participation for their healthy physical and mental life. Korean senior were satisfied with family members relationship, -although Korean senior's life satisfaction level is not higher so that the new policy to care senior by senior system will be reviewed more actively.

Activation Property of Blast furnace Slag by Alkaline Activator (알칼리 자극제에 의한 고로수쇄슬래그의 활성화 특성)

  • This paper examines the hydration and physical properties of alkali-blast furnace slag cement activated by Na$_2$SiO$_3$, Na$_2$CO$_3$, NaOH, Na$_2$SO$_4$. Four levels of Na$_2$O content in mixtures, 1, 3, 5, and 7 wt%, were investigated, and a W/S ratio 0.5 was used to prepare paste and mortar specimens. Compressive strength measurement of mortars was carried out adding alkali activated slag 30 wt% to OPC. The main hydration products with alkali activator kinds were C-S-H,C$_4$AH$\_$13/, AFt and Al(OH)$_3$ etc. For using Na$_2$CO$_3$ activated slag, hydration ratio of slag was higher than that of different activators, and Na$_2$SO$_4$ activated slag mortar appeared the highest compressive strength values at 28 days with activator content of 5 and 7 wt%.

Studies on the Development of Food Resources from Waste Seeds V. Chemical Composition of Water-melon Seed (폐기종실(廢棄種實)의 식량자원화(食糧資源化)에 관(關)하여 제(第)5보(報) : 수박씨의 화학적(化學的) 조성(組成))

  • An attempt was made to find out the possibility of utilizing water-melon seed as resources of food fats and protein. The water-melon seed contained 40.40% of crude fat and 28.36% of crude protein. The lipid fraction obtained by silicic acid column chromatography was composed of about 97.35% neutral lipid, and the main components of neutral lipid by thin layer chromatography were triglyceride(50.40%), diglyceride(21.84%) and sterol(11.48%). The predominant fatty acids of total and major lipid classes were linoleic acid(55.30-67.85%), palmitic acid(12.07-28.12%) and oleic acid(9.06-16.40%), whereas stearic acid and linolenic acid were detected as small amounts. The salt soluble protein of watermelon seed was highly dispersible in 0.02M sodium phosphate buffer containing about 0.7M $MgSO_4$, and the extractability of seed protein was about 27%. Glutamic acid and arginine were major amino acids, and the essential amino acids such as lysine, threonine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine and phenylalanine were also detected. The electrophoretic analysis showed 6 bands in water-melon seed protein, and the collection rate of the main protein fraction purified by sephadex G-100 and G-200 was 52.4%. The amino acids of the main fraction protein were also mainly composed of glutamic acid and arginine. The molecular weight for the main protein of the water-melon seed was estimated to be 120,000.
