Manufacturing Techniques of Bronze Seated Bodhisattva Statue of Goseongsa Temple in Gangjin (강진 고성사 청동보살좌상의 제작기술 연구)

  • In this study, a study on the production technology of the Buddha statue and the production of raw material origin was conducted through scientific analysis on the Bronze seated Bodhisattva Statue of Goseongsa Temple, a treasure. As a result of microstructure analysis through a metal microscope, it was confirmed that the microstructure of the Bronze seated Bodhisattva Statue of Goseongsa Temple was a process-type dendritic structure, and the casting structure of bronze was well represented, so it was manufactured through casting. Subsequently, as a result of analyzing the alloy composition ratio through SEM-EDS, it was identified as a ternary alloy with 81.26 wt% of copper (Cu) and 16.42 wt% of tin (Sn) and 1.72 wt% of lead (Pb). The results of the analysis of lead isotope ratios using a thermal ionization mass spectrometer (TIMS) were substituted into the distribution of lead isotope ratios on the Korean Peninsula, it was shown in corresponding to Jeolla-do and Chungcheong-do regions and North and South Gyeongsang Province. This suggests that the raw materials used in their production were likely sourced from the mines around Goseong Temple in Gangjin. Despite the fact that the statue is a medium and large Buddha with a total height of 51 centimeters, 1.72 wt% of lead (Pb) was found as a result of alloy composition ratio analysis, which showed a similar composition to the lead content ratio of small bronze and gilt-bronze Buddha statues. Therefore, we compared and analyzed the results of the analysis of the composition ratio of the alloys of bronze and gilt bronze statues, which has been scientifically analyzed with a compositional age similar to that of the Bronze seated Bodhisattva Statue of Goseongsa Temple. Comparison results, Various factors, such as the size of the Buddha statue as well as its stylistic characteristics and the age of composition, may exist in determining the alloy composition ratio of the bronze and gilt bronze Buddha statues, and it was confirmed that the alloy composition ratio or casting technology was properly adjusted when the Buddha statue was created. In other words, it is judged that a more comprehensive system of Buddha statue production technology should be investigated by conducting archaeological and art history studies on stylistic characteristics and age of composition, as well as scientific analysis results such as observation of internal structure, microstructure observation, and analysis of alloy composition ratio using radiation transmission irradiation.

Evaluation on Long-term Mechanical Performance and Durability of Recycled Coarse Aggregate Concrete Produced by Two-stage Mixing Approach (2단계 배합방법으로 제조된 순환굵은골재 콘크리트의 장기재령 역학적 성능 및 내구성 평가)

  • Recycled aggregates show high water absorption rate compared to natural aggregates due to microcrack developed during production process and adhered cement pastes at the surface of recycled aggregates. This leads to the deterioration of mechanical properties and slow work flow. Currently it is getting hard to satisfy high demand for natural aggregates. Utilizing recycled aggregate more widely may be a substitutable countermeasure for the shortage of natural resources. In this study, two-stage mixing approach(TSMA) suggested by Tam et al. is used to produce recycled aggregate concrete(RAC) with 100 % replacement of coarse natural aggregate and tests for compressive strength, elastic modulus, and chloride ion diffusion coefficient are conducted to find out the effect of TSMA compared to normal mixing method. According to experimental result compressive strength and elastic modulus of RAC with TSMA was superior to those of RAC with normal mixing irrespective of water-cement ratio, and in some cases mechanical properties of RAC with TSMA approached to those of natural aggregate concrete(NAC). However, chloride ion diffusion coefficient of RAC was higher than that of NAC. This illustrates that TSMA is not an appropriate method in reducing chloride ion diffusion coefficient, resulting in inconsequential contribution of TSMA to the durability of RAC.

  • OLED소자의 양극재료로써 현재는 산화인듐주석(ITO : indium tin oxide) 박막이 널리 이용되고 있다. 그러나 낮은 전기 비저항과 높은 투과도를 갖는 ITO 박막을 얻기 위해서는 $300^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 성막되어야 하며, 원료 물질인 인듐의 수급량 부족으로 인한 문제점과 독성, 저온증착의 어려움, 스퍼터링 시 음이온 충격에 의한 막 손상으로 저항의 증가의 문제점이 있고, 또한 유기발광소자의 투명전극으로 쓰일 경우에 유기물과의 계면 부적합성, 액정디스플레이의 투명전극으로 사용될 경우에 $400^{\circ}C$정도의 놓은 온도와 수소 플라즈마 분위기에서 장시간 노출 시 열화로 인한 광학적 특성변화가 문제가 된다. 이러한 문제점을 지닌 ITO 박막을 대체할 수 있는 물질로 산화 인듐아연(lZO) 박막이 많은 각광을 받고 있다. IZO(Indium Zinc Oxide) 박막은 저온 ($100^{\circ}C$ 이상)에서 증착이 가능하고 추가적인 열처리 없이도 가시광 영역에서 90% 이상의 광 투과도와 ${\sim}10^{-4}{\Omega}cm$ 이하의 낳은 전기 비저항을 갖는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이러한 IZO박막은 성막 후 고온의 열처리 과정이 필요 없기 때문에 폴리카보네이트와 같은 유기물 기판을 사용하여 제작 가능한 유연한 평판형 표시 소자의 제작에도 적용될 수 있다. IZO(Indium Zinc Oxide) 박막은 상온 공정에서도 우수한 전기적, 광학적, 표면 특성을 나타낼 뿐만 아니라 양극재료로써 높은 일함수를 가지고 있어 고효율의 유기 발광 소자를 구현하는데 유리한 재료라 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 TCO 박막의 면 저항과 표면 거칠기가 OLED 소자의 성능에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. R.F Magnetron Sputtering을 이용하여 투명 전도막을 성막 형성 하였으며, 기판온도와 증착과정에서 주입되는 산소, 수소의 유랑 변화가 박막의 구조적, 전기적 특성에 어떠한 영향 미치는 것인가를 자세히 규명하였다 ITO 와 IZO박막은 챔버 내 다양한 가스 분위기(Ar, $Ar+O_2$ and $Ar+H_2$) 에서 R.F Magnetron Sputtering 방법으로 증착했다. TCO박막의 구조적인 이해를 돕기 위해서 X-ray diffraction 과 FESEM으로 분석했다. 광학적 투과도와 박막의 두께는 Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer(Varian, cary-500)와 Surface profile mersurement system으로 각각 측정하였다. 면저항, charge carrier농도, 그리고 TCO박막의 이동성과 길은 전기적특성은 Four-point probe와 Hall Effect Measurement(HMS-3000)로 각각 측정한다. TCO 박막의 표면 거칠기에 따른 OLED소자의 성능분석 측면에서는 TCO 박막의 표면 거칠기 조절을 위해 photo lithography 공정을 사용하여 TCO 박막을 에칭 하였다. 미세사이즈 패턴 마스크가 사용되고 에칭의 깊이는 에칭시간에 따라 조절한다. TCO박막의 표면 형태는 FESEM과 AFM으로 관찰하고 그리고 나서 유기메탈과 음극 전극을 연속적으로 TCO 박막위에 증착한다. 투명전극으로 사용되는 IZO기판 상용화를 위해 IZO기판 위에 $\alpha$-NPB, Alq3, LiF, Al순서로 OLED소자를 제작하였다. 전류밀도와 전압 그리고 발광과 OLED소자의 전압과 같은 전기적 특성은 Spectrometer (minolta CS-1000A) 에 의하여 I-V-L분석을 했다.

Non-Destructive Material Analysis and Comparative Study of the Changdeok Palace "Chugudae" and National Designated "Chugudae" (창덕궁 이문원 측우대의 비파괴 재질 분석과 국가지정 측우대와의 비교)

  • State-designated rain gauge pedestals, including a rain gauge support, were installed in front of the "Imunwon" at Changdeok Palace, made from various rock types. Some of those pedestals provide exact information on their production dates. These rain gauge pedestals are highly valuable as scientific instruments; however, there has been insufficient scientific research carried out on them. Therefore, precise analysis and conservative consideration are required. As a result of petrographic character analysis, the Changdeokgung rain gauge pedestal has been classified as marble. Furthermore, comparison of the results of P-XRF analysis with GSJ reference samples (JLs-1, JDo-1) has determined it to be dolomitic marble. Applying the same analysis to other state-designated rain gauge pedestals, it was presumed that the rain gauge supports at Gyeongsand-do Provincial Office and Gwansanggam were each made from aplite, pinkish medium-to-coarse biotite granite. Results confirmed that only the Changdeokgung rain gauge pedestal was made from marble. Marble is viewed as having an identity specificity rooted in a certain historical background. According to the tendency towards stone figures being made from marble, especially dolomitic marble, it is necessary to further studies whether particular rocks were used to make royal stone figures in Joseon Dynasty.

Consideration of Making Techniques for Red Painted Roof Tiles from Presumed Site of Daetongsa in Gongju Using Nondestructive Analysis (비파괴 분석을 활용한 공주 대통사 추정지 출토 주칠흔 기와의 제작기술 검토)

  • The Daetongsa temple is the earliest temple to be constructed during the era of the Three Kingdoms in ancient Korea. The main architect, purpose, and name of the temple have been confirmed through ancient literature and archeological materials carved in the Chinese letter, Daetong, excavated around Gongju. However, the location and range of the temple have remained elusive and were discussed in various studies. In this study, we examine the roof tiles obtained from the presumed site of the Daetongsa temple. The tiles were found to contain traces of red paint (red pigments) on their surface and analyzed using nondestructive techniques. The results imply that roof tiles were made using clay tablets and wooden cylinders, with latticed cloth in between. Additionally, some wooden cylinders appeared to comprise numerous wooden plates tied together by strings. The clay tablets used to make the roof tiles were produced from the source clay via the sorting process. The traces of red paint on the surface of the roof tiles were verified to be traditional pigments used for painting wooden buildings. These pigments were extracted from red ocher or red clay (Seokganju), mainly consisting of iron oxide. In the literature, the location of provenance sites for Seokganju is estimated to be far from Gongju. However, the materials for extracting the red pigments were relatively easy to source because most rocks comprised iron oxides. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the provenance of the red pigments around the presumed site of Daetongsa.

The Continuance and Changes of Horsehair Handicraft Tradition as Intangible Cultural Heritage (무형문화유산으로서 말총공예 전통의 지속과 변화)

  • The provision of support for the art of making these items needs to be considered with the focus on the following factors: the local situation of the areas where such traditional handicrafts are still made, the craftspeople involved in their production, and their communities. So far, discussion about how to reinvigorate traditional handicrafts, including those mentioned above, has been concentrated on the measures taken to promote them as part of the handicrafts industry and the allocation of the government's budget for important intangible cultural heritages. The government runs a traditional handicrafts management system and provides financial support for the craftspeople and spaces for exhibiting their work. This form of support has led to systematic management of traditional handicrafts and heightened public interest in cultural heritage, as well as publicizing the country's traditional crafts, but has made little progress in the following areas: the fostering of young people willing to learn traditional skills, diversification of the types of skills to be maintained, or establishment of the networks of collaboration among the craftspeople. The most important aspect among the efforts mentioned above is to maintain cultural traditions that are unique to each region by encouraging local craftspeople to engage in their work with a solid sense of pride backed up by financial support. This study was carried out in connection with the need to reinvigorate the art of making tanggeon (horsehair crown), manggeon (horsehair headband), and gat (black horsehair hat), which few people wear as they are used only for ornamental purposes nowadays. This study examined the circumstances surrounding the artisans engaged in the production of horsehair handicrafts prior to their designation as a cultural heritage, and the changes that occurred in the local communities associated with their production after the designation, in order to assess the status of inheritance of this tradition.

Interpretation of Firing Temperature and Material Similarity for Potteries from Ancient Tombs in Songpa Area, Seoul (서울 송파 지역 고분 출토 토기의 재료학적 동질성 및 소성온도 해석)

  • This study seeks to identify the material characteristics of earthenware excavated from the Bangi-dong Ancient Tomb No. 3 and the articulated stone-mound tomb of the Seokchon-dong ancient tombs in the Songpa region, and analyze the homogeneity and the firing temperature of the materials used at each excavated site. The remains have been studied relatively recently, and the groups of tombs in which they were found demonstrate the transition of ancient Korean burial systems, and at the same time, provide important archaeological data about those in power at the time. The earthenware pottery excavated from the two sites examined in the study were buried at different times, and it is assumed that they were made by procuring weathered soil of similar gneiss, judging from the behavior of the compatible and incompatible elements and the weathering tendency found by examining the main components. In addition, the examination of the mineral composition and microstructure of clay indicates that the earthenware from Seokchon-dong was fired at 950 degrees Celsius or lower at a relatively early stage. On the other hand, the earthenware from Bangi-dong Tomb No. 3 was confirmed to have experienced temperatures below 850 degrees Celsius and above 1,000 degrees Celsius. However, it is difficult to interpret the difference as the result of the changes in firing temperature throughout the eras. It is expected that it will be possible to interpret the changes in earthenware manufacturing techniques by comparing more diverse earthenware potteries and ancient soils.

  • In the aerospace field, besides special purpose airplanes, contracts for supply of various types of products such as prototypes, unmanned aerial vehicles and space launch vehicles are increasing. In the case of the contractor, it was planned to spend a large amount of money to supply the production, but if the purchase specification that presents the quality and performance standard of the product is poor or lacks the capacity to judge the performance, consuming enormous amounts of time and money. Even if the undertaker does not have the ability to supply the products with the required performance and quality to achieve the purpose of the contract, he/she must pay the cost of burial due to the incompleteness of the work and the compensation for the cancellation of the contract. In this case, the defendant ordered the plaintiff to supply the aircraft by the Happy Box method, which is capable of ILS Offset flight as specified in the Purchase Specification, but the plaintiff attempted to supply the aircraft by the RNAV method. Although the ILS ground signal can be inspected by the RNAV method, the aircraft manufactured in the manner claimed by the plaintiff does not have the ILS Offset flight function required by the purchase specification, so the defendant can not achieve the purpose required by the purchase specification. It was a question of whether a defendant's cancellation of contract was legitimate. The aircraft, which is the object of this contract, is a subordinate substitute, so the case contract is of undertaking. Therefore, in order to complete the work in this contract, the major structural parts of the aircraft must be manufactured as agreed and have the performance generally required in the social sense. However, the aircraft delivered by the plaintiff has serious defects because the defendant can not achieve the purpose required by the purchase specification due to the lack of the ILS Offset flight function required by the purchase specification. This deficiency is impossible for the plaintiff to repair, so the defendant 's cancellation of the contract is legitimate.

  • 투명전도막은 FPD의 전자부품에서 전극으로 널리 사용되고 있으며 현재 대부분의 투명전도막으로는 ITO가 사용되고 있다. 하지만, ITO에 사용되는 In은 희유금속으로 지속적인 사용량 증가로 가격의 급등과 더불어 수급 불안정으로 인해 In을 대체하고자 하는 연구가 집중적으로 이루어지고 있다. 그러나 $In_2O_3$를 대체한 ZnO계 등은 비저항이 높아 대체 적용이 가능하지 못하고 있다. 이에 In의 양을 줄이면서 상대적으로 저가이면서 광학적 특성이 우수한 ZnO을 첨가하여 기존의 ITO에 상응하는 전기전도도와 광투과율을 얻을 수 있는 새로운 3성분계 TCO 에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구그룹은 $In_2O_3$을 기본 조성으로 하는 $In_2O_3-ZnO-SnO_2$계를 선정하여 IZTO target을 제조 후 RF magnetron sputtering 방법으로 투명전도막을 제작하였다. 본 연구에서는 RF 파워와 동작압력, 동작시간 그리고 열처리온도의 증착 조건에 따른 IZTO 박막의 특성을 평가하였다. 박막의 특성 및 표면 미세구조를 관찰하기 위해 AFM(Atomic Force Microscope)을 이용하였으며, XRD(X-ray diffraction)을 이용하여 결정성을 분석하였고, 4 point-prove, Hall effect measurement와 UV/Visible spectrometer를 통해 전기적, 광학적 특성을 평가하였다.
