The mineralogical properties of natural zeolite comixed with montmorillonite were investigated by the chemical composition analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. The experimental results on the removal of heavy metal ions by using the natural sample are summerized as follows. The removal of the heavy metal in solution is greatly influenced by the pH. Also, the removal capacity of heavy metal ions by zeolite and montmorillonite have increased in order of $Cu^{2+}>Cd^{2+}>Ni^{2+}$.
A study on the synthesis of zeolite from bituminous coal ESP fly ash as a raw material, which was emitted from the power plant, was carried out to reduce environmental problems and reuse of the industrial wastes. Bituminous coal fly ash was used as the source of silica and alumina. Zeolite was synthesized by hydrothermal reaction in aqueous NaOH solution with sodium aluminate as additive. The objective of this study is to elucidate the effect of several experimental variables on the synthesis of zeolite. The effects of preroasting temperature, mixing speed, leaching alkalinity, and molar ratio of Na$_{2}$O/SiO$_{2}$ and SiO$_{2}$/Al$_{2}$O of the products were investigated. The synthesized zeolite was proved to be NaA, which is known as 4A type, by comparing with SEM images, and X-ray diffraction analysis. And also we know that the transformation of zeolite A take places into other types of zeolites, i.e. Hydroxysodalite, zeolite P, with the variation of leaching alkalinity.

A way to adsorptively remove indoor carbon dioxide at relatively lower concentration under ambient temperature was studied. A small lab-scale carbon dioxide adsorption and desorption reactors were prepared, and 5A and 13X zeolites were packed in this reactors to investigate their adsorption and desorption characteristics. The inflow carbon dioxide concentration was controlled to 5,000 ppm, relatively higher concentration found in indoor spaces with air quality problems, by diluting carbon dioxide with nitrogen gas. The flow rate was varied as 1~5 L/min, and the carbon dioxide concentration after this reactor was constantly monitored to examine the adsorption characteristics. It was found that 5A adsorbed more carbon dioxide than 13X. A lab-scale carbon dioxide desorption reactor was also prepared to investigate the desorption characteristics of zeolites, which is essential for the regeneration of used zeolites. The desorption temperature was varied as $25{\sim}200^{\circ}C$, and the desorption pressure was varied as 0.1~1.0 bar. Carbon dioxide desorbed better at higher temperature, and lower pressure. 5A could be regenerated more than three times by thermal desorption at $180^{\circ}C$. It is required to modify zeolites for higher adsorption and better regeneration performances.

The structure of nitrogen adsorption complex of fully dehydrated $Cd^{2+}$ ion exchanged zeolite-X, $|Cd_{46}(N)_{18}|[Si_{100}Al_{92}O_{384}]$, was determined in the cubic space group $Fd\overline{3}$ at 21(1) $^{\circ}C$ [a = 24.863(4) ] by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal was prepared by ion exchange in a flowing steam of 0.05 M aqueous solution $Cd(NO_3)_2$ : $Cd(O_2CCH_3)_2$ = 1:1 for five days, followed by dehydration at $500^{\circ}C$ and $2{\times}10^{-6}$ Tor. for two days, and exposured to 100 Tor. zeolitically dry nitrogen gas at 21(1) $^{\circ}C$. The structure was determined in atmosphere, and was refined within $F_0$ > $4{\sigma}(F_0)$ using reflection for which the final error can appear in indices $R_1$ = 0.097 and $wR_2$ = 0.150. In this structure, $Cd^{2+}$ ions occupied four crystallographic sites. Nine $Cd^{2+}$ ions filled the octahedral site I at the centers of hexagonal prisms (Cd-O = 2.452(16) ${\AA}$). Eight $Cd^{2+}$ ions filled site I' (Cd-O = 2.324(19) ${\AA}$). The remaining 29 $Cd^{2+}$ ions are found at two nonequivalent sites II (in the supercages) with occupancy of 11 and 18 ions. Each of these $Cd^{2+}$ ions coordinated to three framework oxygens, either at 2.159(15) or 2.147(14) ${\AA}$, respectively. Eighteen nitrogen molecules were adsorbed per unit cell and three per supercage.

The crystal structures of vacuum-dehydrated $Ag^+\;and\;Ca^{2+}$ exchanged zeolite A, Ag_7Ca_{2.5}-A(a = 12.310(1){\AA})$ and $Ag_2Ca_5-A(a = 12.287(2){\AA})$ have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods in the cubic space group Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C$. The crystals of $A_7Ca_{2.5}-A\;and\;Ag_2Ca_5-A$ were prepared by flow method using exchange solutions in which mole ratios of $AgNO_3\;and\;Ca(NO_3)_2$ were 1:50 and 1:1000, respectively, with total concentration of 0.05 M. Full-matrix least-squares refinement converged to the final error indices of R1 = 0.056 and R2 = 0.059 for $Ag7Ca2.5-A$, and R1 = 0.054 and R2 = 0.082 for $Ag2Ca5-A$ using 306 and 348 reflections, respectively, for which I >3 {\sigma}$ (I). 5.5 $Ag^+$ ions and 2.5 Ca^{2+}$ ions for $Ag_7Ca_{2.5}-A\;and\;2\;Ag^+$ ions and 5 $Ca^{2+}$ ions for $Ag_2Ca_5-A$ lie on two crystallographically nonequivalent threefold axes on the 6-rings. Both structures indicate that smaller Ca2+ ions preferentially occupy 6-ring sites and larger $Ag+$ ions occupy 8-ring sites when total number of cations per unit cell is more than 8.
The structures of fully dehydrated $Ca^{2+}$- and $Cs^+$-exchanged zeolite X, $Ca_{35}Cs_{22}Si_{100}Al_{92}O_{384}$($Ca_{35}Cs_{22}$-X; a=25.071(1) $\AA)$ and $Ca_{29}Cs_{34}Si_{100}Al_{92}O_{384}$($Ca_{29}Cs_{34}$-X; a=24.949(1) $\AA)$, have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods in the cubic space group Fd3 at $21(1)^{\circ}C.$ Their structures were refined to the final error indices $R_1$=0.051 and $R_2$=0.044 with 322 reflections for $Ca_{35}Cs_{22}$-X, and $R_1$=0.058 and $R_2$=0.055 with 260 reflections for $Ca_{29}Cs_{34}$-X; $I>3\sigma(I).$ In both structures, $Ca^{2+}$ and $Cs^+$ ions are located at five different crystallographic sites. In dehydrated $Ca_{35}Cs_{22}$-X, sixteen $Ca^{2+}$ ions fill site I, at the centers of the double 6-rings(Ca-O=2.41(1) $\AA$ and $O-Ca-O=93.4(3)^{\circ}).$ Another nineteen $Ca^{2+}$ ions occupy site II (Ca-O=2.29(1) $\AA$, O-Ca-O=118.7(4)') and ten $Cs^+$ ions occupy site II opposite single six-rings in the supercage; each is $1.95\AA$ from the plane of three oxygens (Cs-O=2.99(1) and $O-Cs-O=82.3(3)^{\circ}).$ About three $Cs^+$ ions are found at site II', 2.27 $\AA$ into sodalite cavity from their three-oxygen plane (Cs-O=3.23(1) $\AA$ and $O-Cs-O=75.2(3)^{\circ}).$ The remaining nine $Cs^+$ ions are statistically distributed over site Ⅲ, a 48-fold equipoint in the supercages on twofold axes (Cs-O=3.25(1) $\AA$ and Cs-O=3.49(1) $\AA).$ In dehydrated $Ca_{29}Cs_{34}$-X, sixteen $Ca^{2+}$ ions fill site I(Ca-O=2.38(1) $\AA$ and $O-Ca-O=94.1(4)^{\circ})$ and thirteen $Ca^{2+}$ ions occupy site II (Ca-O=2.32(2) $\AA$, $O-Ca-O=119.7(6)^{\circ}).$ Another twelve $Cs^+$ ions occupy site II; each is $1.93\AA$ from the plane of three oxygens (Cs-O=3.02(1) and $O-Cs-O=83.1(4)^{\circ})$ and seven $Cs^+$ ions occupy site II'; each is $2.22\AA$ into sodalite cavity from their three-oxygen plane (Cs-O=3.21(2) and $O-Cs-O=77.2(4)^{\circ}).$ The remaining sixteen $Cs^+$ ions are found at III site in the supercage (Cs-O=3.11(1) $\AA$ and Cs-O=3.46(2) $\AA).$ It appears that $Ca^{2+}$ ions prefer sites I and II in that order, and that $Cs^+$ ions occupy the remaining sites, except that they are too large to be stable at site I.

The crystal structure of a bromine sorption complex of dehydrated fully $Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite A (a = 12.211(2) ${\AA}$) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group, Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C$. The crystal was prepared by dehydration at $360^{\circ}C$ and 2 ${\times}$$10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to about 180 Torr of bromine vapor at $24^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. In the resulting structure, six $Ca^{2+}$ ions are located on two different threefold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens. A total of six dibromine molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each $Br_2$ molecule approaches a framework oxide ion axially, with O-Br = 3.12(7) ${\AA}$, Br-Br = 2.64(9) ${\AA}$ and O-Br-Br = $178(2)^{\circ}$, indicating a charge-transfer interaction. Full-matrix least-squares refinement converged to a conventional R index of 0.104 using the 103 independent reflections for which I > 3${\sigma}$ (I).
The crystal shnture of dehydrated fully Cd2+-exchanged zeolite A evacuated at 2 × 10-6 Torr and 650℃ (a:12.189(2) A) and of its iodine sorption corrplex (a:12.168(2)A) have been netsmlmn by single uystal x-ray diffraction techliques in the cubic space group hkTn at 21(1)℃. The strutures were refined to final error indices, Ri:0.057 and R2 =0.063 with 186 reflections and Rl:0.082 and R2:0.085 with 181 reflections, respectively, for which 1>3σ(In both structure, six lie at two distinguished threefold axes of unit cell ten the crystal structure of an iodine sorption complex of Cd6-A four Cd2+ ions are recessed 0.69(1) A into the large cavity to complex each with from the (111) plane of 0(3), whereas two Cd2+ ions recessed 0.68(1) A into the sodalite unit Awximately 4.0 l3ions per nit cell are sorbed. Each bridge between a Cd2+ ion and 8-ring oxygens ((I-I-I)= 117(1) ˚ and 0(1)-I(1)-I(2)=172(1)). The near linear I-I-0 angle and its interatomic distance (I-0=3.57(3) A) are indicative of a weak charge transfer interacticn between the frarrework oxygen and iodine. The existence of In3 inside the large cavity indicates that the If ions and H ions may be produced by reaction of In vapor with water molecules which maybe associated with Cd2+ ions in partially dehydrated Cd6-A In3- ions may be produced by the combination of I- and I2.
The crystal structure of an acetylene sorption complex of vacuum dehydrated fully Cda+ _exchanged zeolite A has been determined from three-dimensional X-ray diffraction data gathered by counter method. The structure was solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at 294(1) K, a=12.202(3) A and Z=1. We crystal was prepared by dehydration at 723 K and 2.67×104 Pa for 2 days, followed by exposure to 1.60×104 Pa of acetylene gas at 298(1) K. All six Cd2+ions per unit cell are associated with 6-oxgen rings of the aluminosilicate framework. They are distributed over two distinguished threefold axes of unit cell; two of these Cd2+ ions are recessed 0.694 into the sodalite unit from (111) plane of three 0(3)'s and each approaches three framework oxides; the other four Cd2+ ions extend approximately 0.586A into the large cavity. The four Cd2+ ions are in a near tetrahedral environment, 2.220(9)A from·three framework oxide ions and 2.74(7) A from each carbon atom of an acetylene molecule(which is here counted as a monodentate ligand). Full matrix least squares refinement converged to the final error indices R1=0.093 and R2=0.105 using the 292 independent reflections for which I>3σ(I).
The crystal structure of a bromine sorption complex of vacuum-dehydrated Ag+ and Ca2+ exchanged zeolite A(a=12,234(1) Å) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods in the cubic space group Pm3m. The crystal was prepared by flow method using exchange solution in which mole ratio of AgNo3 and Ca(NO3)2 was 1:150 with a total concentration of 0.05M. The crystal was dehydrated at 360℃ and 2 ×10-6 Torr for 2days, followed by exposure to 180 Torr of Br2 vapor for 20min. full-matrix least-squares refinements converged to the final error indices of R1=0.111 and R2=0.101 using 90 reflections for which I>3o(I). About 3.1 Ag+ ions and 4.45 Ca2+ ions lie on the two crystallographically nonequivalent three-fold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens. A total of six bromine molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each bromine molecule approaches a framework oxide ions axially (Br-Br-O=171(2)', O-Br=3.25(6) Å; and Br-Br=2,61(8) Å by a charge-transfer interaction.
