The distributions of planktonic and periphytic algae were studied from April 2003 to February 2004 at Gwangju Stream. A total of 274 species, belongs to 8 classes, 19 orders, 6 suborders, 35 families, 4 subfamilies, 79 genera, was identified as algal flora of Gwangju Stream. The most diverse phytoplankton flora was observed at Bangrim bridge and Yangdong market sites with 137 species, and followed by Yuchon bridge site (118 species). The richness of phytoplankton fluctuated throughout the studied period from all the sampled sites. The precipitation was a major factor affected the richness of phytoplankton. The diatoms predominated the phytoplankton of Gwangju Stream with 57.7~77.0% of total phytoplankton. The maximum cells of phytoplankton was observed at Yuchon bridge site with 23,792 cells $mL^{-1}$ in August 2003, and minimum at Jeungsimsa site with 82 cells $mL^{-1}$ in April 2003. The periphyton of Gwangju Stream was predominated by the diatoms. In February 2004, all the periphyton of Yuchon bridge site were diatoms. Other sites also showed the predominance of diatoms throughout the studied period. The standing crops of phytoplankton were highly correlated with chlorophyll-a concentration with R=0.795. TN and TP also showed high relationships with phytoplankton standing crops in Yangdong market site with R=0.796 and R=0.760, respectively. The rains of 7-days ago showed high relationships with phytoplankton standing crop at Dongsan tower site with R=0.810. However, other climatic factors showed no clear relationships with phytoplankton cells.
To alleviate the harmful effects from contamination, the Sihwa Lake waters have been regularly fluxed out into the ocean to mix and circulate with the oceanic waters, and then allowed to flow back into the lake. In the present study, eco-environmental impacts by the outflowing contaminated lake waters to the benthic communities of the coastal zones along Kyonggi Bay were examined at three separate areas. A total of 22 groups of meiobenthic animals were commonly found in the subtidal zones of the Bay. All groups of the meiobenthic animals on the 1st and 7th days after the outflow were remarkably reduced in numbers from the selected areas examined, as compared to those observed one day before the outflow. It was also found that the community structure of meiobenthos was changed drastically: At the station near the water gate, for example, where the immediate outflow of the lake water was encountered, the benthic harpacticoids, the group observed to be one of the predominant groups before the outflow, were found to have disappeared completely. For an area that was relatively far away from the water gate, the reduction rate of meiobenthos after the outflow events was slower and more gradual than the nearer sites. An area that is the farthest from the water gate, no reduction in any of the meiobenthos group was observed. The ratio between nematodes/copepods (N/C) was remarkably changed by the outflows at the station near the water gate: One day before the outflow, the ratio was 0.7 while the ratio was 19.0 at the station near the water gate. In contrast, at the stations relatively far from the water gate, the ratio decreased one day after the outflow event, but increasing trends were observed one week later. In the tidal flats, Station 1 exhibited the common observed regional values of the ratio whereas Station 2 showed a very high ratio of 191.3. The results suggested that the contaminated lake water outflows directly effect meiobenthos in a relatively short time period and thus the meiobenthos may be a good indicator animal group for examining the effect of pollution. The relationship between summer hypoxia in bottom water layer and benthic community structure was discussed at forty sampling stations in semi-enclosed Youngsan River estuarine bay, Korea. The oxygen deficient layer less than $2.0 mg/\ell$ was widely developed in the inner estuarine stations in summer due to the summer stratification. A total of 141 species was occurred, with a mean density of $1,923 ind./m^2$ and biomass of $79.44\;g/m^2$ in summer season. The species number was significantly increased with the increment of the bottom dissolved oxygen, whereas density and biomass were partially correlated within the low oxygen level of $2.0\;mg/\ell$. These results imply that benthic community structures are affected by bottom oxygen depletion in summer. Cluster analysis showed that the benthic community could be classified into three station groups. These station groups from the species composition coincided with the groups based on the environmental factors. This fact suggests that the overall spatial distribution of macrozoobenthos in Youngsan River estuarine bay in summer should be controlled by the summer hypoxia and clay content of the area. Group-I was located the innermost estunrine bay from Mokpo Harbour to near the dike, where summer hypoxia was developed and one bivalve Theora fragilis, two polychaetes, Tharyx sp. and Lumbrineris longifolia were dominated. Group-II, the central transitory area of the estuarine bay between two another stational groups, where two bivalves Theora fragilis, Raetellops pulchella and a polychaete Tharyx sp. predominated with relatively low density compared to that of Group-I. Group-III, the mouth part of the estunrine bay exposed to the open sea, where a polychaetes Poecilochaetus johnsoni and a bivalve Yoldia Johanni predominated.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the biotic environments based upon the community pattern of demersal fishes in the Masan bay which is heavily polluted area in the southern part of Korea. The baited traps or bottom gillnet sampled bottom fishes at four sites totally 14 tunes from March 1994 to December 1996 with 2~3 months interval. The baited trap caught 0~ 10 species which were mainly starfish, crabs, conger eel, rockfish, or blenny with 0~50 individuals per a trap. Small crab(Atergatis sp.) was significantly dominant in the S1 site, most heavily polluted area, and starfish(Asterias sp. and/or Asterina sp.) in the other three sites. There was no animals at the S1 site in the March and July in 1994 and August in 1996. The gillnets caught 0~7 species which were mainly mantis shrimp, jellyfish, flounder, starfish, crabs, or sea weeds with 0~30 individuals per a pannel of bottom gillnet. Jellyfish was significantly dominant in the S1 site and mantis shrimp in the all four sites. There was no animals in the July 1994 at S1 site and in the August and December 1996 at S4 site. But at the August in 1995 or 1996 in the S1 site, the bottom gillnets caught mackerel, anchovy, gizzard-shad or mullet which was dead all. The species diversity index of samlings by trap or gillnet showed less than 1.0 in the 80% of the totally 56 samplings. This means that the stability of demersal fishes' community is very low owing to the poor biotic environments. But most of fishes living at Masan bay appeared well fitting with the heavily polluted environments. And some fishes, like mackerel, anchovy, gizzard-shad or mullet migrated into polluted Masan bay with the seasonal or annual fluctuation.

To clarify the spatial distribution pattern of macrozoobenthos in Korean coastal waters in the summer season and investigate the relationship between community structure and benthic environmental factors, field surveys on community structure and benthic environmental factors were conducted at 117 stations in August 2017. A total of 613 macrobenthic species were identified, with the mean density of 1,228 ind./m2 and the mean biomass (wet weight) of 110.9 g WW/m2. Rich biodiversity was found at stations near Wando and along the coast of the East Sea, and there is a trend that stations with greater biodiversity also showed higher mean density as well. The dominant species in all the coastal areas in Korea was Heteromastus filiformis, which were found at most of the stations during the survey. The relatively deep areas in the East Sea were dominated by Magelona johnsoni and Maldane cristata, which were the third and ninth dominant species in the study areas, respectively. Pseudopolydora kempi and Rhynchospio sp. were observed only at the station located in the Nakdong River estuary. From the cluster analysis the stations could be clustered into three station groups with more similar faunal composition. Group A was located in the eastern coast, characterized with deep water depth and low levels of sand contents, while Group B was located in the southern coast, characterized by shallow depth of water and high content of mud and organic matter. Lastly, Group C was in the western coast, demonstrating low levels of mud content and organic matters. The biodiversity of macrobenthic species in the study area showed high positive correlation coefficients with benthic environmental factors such as sorting, clay, silt, and contents of organic matter in sediments, but negatively correlated with the sand contents. Major dominant species, Theora lata and Eriopisella sechellensis, both showed negative correlation coefficients with the sand contents, but a relatively high positive correlation with the levels of organic contents.It can be concluded that the spatial distribution patterns of macrobenthic organisms in Korean coastal waters are affected by depth, sediment type, and contents of organic matters.

We investigated geochemical constituents of pore-water and sediment, rates of organic carbon (Corg) oxidation and sulfate reduction (SR), and benthic nutrient flux (BNF) to elucidate characteristic of Corg oxidation and its control in the coastal area near Lake Shihwa. The study sites were selected in the vicinity of Soraepogu (E0), Songdo tidalflat (E1) and Oido dock (E3) and in front of floodgate Shihwa tidal plant (E5). The Corg contents in the sediments and concentrations of ammonium and phosphate in pore water exhibited the highest value at EO, and gradually decreased toward the outer sea (E1, E3, E5). Rates of anaerobic Corg oxidation (260.6 mmol C m-2 d-1) and SR (91.4 mmol S m-2 d-1) at E0 were 4-9 and 6-54 times higher than at the site of outer sea (E1, E3, E5). Rates of SR at E3 and E5 accounted for 11-23% of anaerobic Corg oxidation, whereas it comprised 47-70% of anaerobic Corg oxidation at E0 and E1. Rates of Corg oxidation and SR showed a highly positive correlation with the concentration of dissolved organic carbon (r2 = 0.795 and 0.777, respectively). The BNF at E0, E1, and E3 accounted for 120-510% and 26-178%, respectively, of the N and P required for primary production in the water column. Overall results suggest that the Corg oxidation in the sediment controlled by concentration of dissolved organic carbon in the pore water and the excessive Corg oxidation stimulates the benthic nutrient flux, which may cause a phytoplankton bloom in the water column.

We show that the fault diameter of a 2-dimensional $m{\times}n$ torus with $m,n{\geq}3$ is max(m,n) if m=3 or n=3; otherwise, the fault diameter is equal to its diameter plus 1. We also show that in $d({\geq}3)$-dimensional $k_1{\times}k_2{\times}{\cdots}{\times}k_d$ torus with each $k_i{\geq}3$, there are 2d mutually disjoint paths joining any two vertices such that the lengths of all these paths are at most diameter+1. The paths joining two vertices u and v are called to be mutually disjoint if the common vertices on these paths are u and v. Using these mutually disjoint paths, we show that the fault diameter of $d({\geq}3)$-dimensional $k_1{\times}k_2{\times}{\cdots}{\times}k_d$ totus with each $k_i{\geq}3$ is equal to its diameter plus 1.
In this paper, a new adaptive vertex clustering using a KD-tree is presented for 3D mesh partitioning. A vertex clustering is used to divide a huge 3D mesh into several partitions for various mesh processing. An octree-based clustering and K-means clustering are currently leading techniques. However, the octree-based methods practice uniform space divisions and so each partitioned mesh has non-uniformly distributed number of vertices and the difference in its size. The K-means clustering produces uniformly partitioned meshes but takes much time due to many repetitions and optimizations. Therefore, we propose to use a KD-tree to efficiently partition meshes with uniform number of vertices. The bounding box region of the given mesh is adaptively subdivided according to the number of vertices included and dynamically determined axis. As a result, the partitioned meshes have a property of compactness with uniformly distributed vertices.
The present study is a partial extension of the Duncan-Johnson and Donchin (1979) and Soskins, Rosenfeld, and Niendam (2001) studies that found some effects of high pass filter (HPF) setting on P300 waveform. EEGs were recorded while the subjects performed a visual three-stimulus oddball task, and the Fz and Pz EEG signals were passed through 0.01 Hz, 0.3 Hz, and 1.0 Hz HPFs. P300 amplitudes at Fz and Pz were reduced at 1.0 Hz HPF compared to 0.01 Hz and 0.3 Hz HPFs. The negative peaks post P300 at Fz and Pz were not observed at 0.01 Hz HPF, but observed at 0.3 Hz and 1.0 Hz HPFs. The combination of 0.3 Hz HPF and peak-to-peak P300 measures was more useful than that of 0.01 Hz, 0.3 Hz, or 1.0 Hz HPF and baseline-to-peak P300 measures to discriminate between non-target and standard stimuli. The peak-to-peak P300 measures were more useful than the baseline-topeak P300 measures at 1.0 Hz HPF setting.

This study was conducted to investigate the changes in the structure of benthic communities resulting from aquaculture activities and to assess the benthic health status of surface sediment in Gangjin Bay, a region known for concentrated shellfish aquaculture on the southern coast of Korea. Survey stations were divided into longline culture, bottom culture, and non-cultivation areas. The spatiotemporal distribution of physiochemical factors such as the grain size, water temperature, salinity, and total organic carbon in Gangjin Bay showed no significant differences between sampling stations. However, the species number, density, and diversity were relatively lower at the sampling stations in the bottom culture areas than at the other stations throughout the entire survey period. Cluster analysis and principal coordinates analysis also clearly distinguished the benthic communities in the bottom culture areas from those in the other sampling areas. At the sampling stations in the longline culture and non-cultivation areas, Scolectoma longifolia and Sigambra tentaculata, which are indicator species of organically enriched areas, appeared as dominant species. However, excluding some stations influenced by physical factors such as the water depth and current speed, the occupancy rate was not high. The health assessment results, conducted using the fisheries environment assessment method, revealed good conditions with Grades 1 and 2 across the entire area. However, an examination of the spatiotemporal changes in benthic communities and the benthic health index indicated that the benthic environment in the bottom culture areas was affected by physical disturbances.
