  • In this study, the structure of a concave annular array transducer was optimized to generate high intensity focused ultrasound for medical therapeutic application. The transducer has a phased array structure composed of several concentric channels that have 40 mm as the radius of curvature. We derived theoretical equations to analyze the sound field of the transducer and verified the validity of the equations by comparing the results calculated by the equations with those from finite element analyses. We also checked the possibility of dynamic focusing at around the geometric focal point. Further, the level of a grating lobe occurring at an unwanted position in the transducer sound field was confirmed to be reducible through the relation between the number of channels and the frequency of the transducer. Hence, the structure of the transducer was optimized to place the main lobe within a specific range from the zenith while systematically reducing the level of the maximum sidelobe including the grating lobe. The designed structure showed the performance better than that targeted at all the focal points.

  • Purpose: In this study we investigated the correlation between the effect of myopia correction and the change of corneal eccentricity using reverse geometry lens. Methods: The 23 students (46 eyes) continuously wearing reverse geometry lens during 3 months were divided into Group I and Group II by different parameter fitting methods of wearing Reverse Geometry Lens. We measured a corneal eccentricity for Group I and Group II at $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, and $30^{\circ}$ positions from corneal apex before wearing reverse geometry lens, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after wearing reverse geometry lens. We also measured an uncorrected visual acuity, a spherical equivalent, and a corneal radius and analyzed the correlation between them and the change of corneal eccentricity using statistical significance test. Results: There were the statistical significances of a change of corneal eccentricity (p=0.03, t=-2.29) for Group I and Group II at 10 position from corneal apex in a week after wearing reverse geometry lens, but were not those (p>0.05) in 1 month, and 3 months after wearing reverse geometry lens. There were the statistical significances of correlation between the change of corneal eccentricity and a corrected visual acuity, and a corneal radius, respectively. Particularly, the high correlation between the change of corneal eccentricity and a corrected visual acuity (r=-0.36, p=0.00, t=6.5), and a spherical equivalent (r=-0.72, p=0.00, t=-70.5) for Group II in a week after wearing reverse geometry lens showed. Conclusions: We knew from these results that the high correlation between the effect of myopia correction and the change of corneal eccentricity in a week after wearing reverse geometry lens represented.

  • Recently, the studies for mesh simplification have been increased according to the application area of the complicate 3D mesh models has been expanded. This paper introduces a novel method for mesh simplification which uses the properties of the mesh model in addition to the geometric locations of the model. The information of the 3D mesh model Includes surface properties such as color, texture, and curvature information as well as geometic information of the model. The most of current simplification methods adopt such geometric information and surface properties individually for mesh simplification. However, the proposed simplification method combines the geometric information and solace properties and applies them to the simplification process simultaneously. In this paper, we exploit the extended geometry based quadric error metric(QEM) which relatively allows fast and accurate geometric simplification of mesh. Thus, the proposed mesh simplification utilizes the quadric error metric based on geometric information and the surface properties such as color, normal, and texture. The proposed mesh simplification method can be expressed as a simple quadric equation which expands the quadric error metric based on geometric information by adding surface properties such as color, normal, and texture. From the experimental results, the simplification of the mesh model based on the proposed method shows the high fidelity to original model in some respects such as global appearance rather than using current geometry based simplification.
