Resilience scores (t=-3.65, p=0.001) and satisfaction with life scores (t=-3.00, p=0.006) increased after intervention than pre-intervention. Positive affect scores decreased post-intervention (t=2.28, p=0.031). There was no significant difference between pre-and post-intervention negative affect scores (t=-0.94, p=0.356). Conclusions : Present study demonstrated that group-based cognitive-behavioral intervention could be helpful for college students at high risk for mental health to reduce mental health symptoms and improve healthy protective factors.

  • The purpose of this study was empirical verification of the effect of adolescents' truancy experience on the self-awareness and emotional problems. For this, using the data of 2016 in the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), we compared and analyzed using t-test and multiple regression analysis the self-awareness and emotional problems of adolescents who experienced truancy and adolescents who did not. As a result of the analysis, adolescents with truancy experience had relatively low self-awareness, and statistically significant but low scores in self-identity and career identity. However, there was a clear difference in emotional problems, and truancy adolescents scored high in attention, aggression, physical symptoms, and depression. This proved that adolescents with experience of truancy were more exposed to emotional problems, and it was necessary to develop a support system and program for this.

The questionnaire focused on traumatic events encountered, PTSD symptoms experienced, and the use of music in relation to the symptoms. The analysis revealed that all participants had been exposed to traumatic events either directly or indirectly, and 32% of the responders have experienced at least one of the PTSD symptoms in the last one month. Most of the participants perceived music to be necessary in everyday life as well as for managing PTSD related symptoms. On the other hand, only 38% actually use music in everyday life whereas 75% use music for managing PTSD symptoms. • Due to the increasing concerns with the North Korean defectors, the researches have been increased.. However when compared with other areas, the researches about the North Korean defectors are rare. The sample size of this study is 171, which makes it possible to do statistical inferences. This study examines the adjustment stress and the effect of social support on the adaptation. As a demographic factors, gender, age and education are controlled. The context factors-the period of the stay in the third place, the period of residence and the existence of the education in Korea- are used as control variables. The research results show that the jobless is an important stressor. The structural social support affects the adjustment of stress as a whole and not individually. Among functional social support, the emotional social support is an important factor of adaptation, but the effect of structural social support is the opposite. Therefore, the adequacy of social support must be considered.

  • Purpose: According to the statistics announced by the Ministry of Unification, the number of North Korean refugees living in South Korea has increased by 200 on average monthly in 2010. The number of refugees increased only by 300 annually until 2000. The total number of refugees as of February 2012 was 20,956. This study aims to investigate the psychobiology of the North Korean refugees who consulted psychiatric clinics among those living daily life in South Korea. Methods: The subjects of this study were 85 North Korean refugees that consulted psychiatric clinics from January 1, 2005 to July 2011. This study obtained demographic and psychiatric information in a retrospective approach. Results: Among the 85 North Korean refugees, 75 (88.2%) were females and their average age was 48 years of age. A total of 16 (18.8%) were admitted to a clinic and among the inpatients, 4 were admitted twice and two were admitted three times. As for the claimed symptoms of outpatients, insomnia was shown in 47 (55.3%) patients, headaches in 37 (43.5%), anxiety in 20 (23.5%), depression in 19 (22.4%), etc. The major symptoms represented by inpatients were insomnia in 14 (87.5%) patients, depression in 12 (75%), and headaches in 8 (50%), etc. Conclusion: The most frequent psychiatric symptoms of North Korean refugees living in South Korea were insomnia and headaches. It suggests that when performing psychiatric diagnosis and treatment of North Korean refugees, we have to take into consideration the fact that they claimed the physical symptoms more than the emotional ones. Also, from the aspect that most symptoms of North Korean refugees were insomnia, more profound research on sleep is required in the future.
