Confidence Indicators and Evaluation Factors of Credibility According to the Types of Online Information (온라인 정보원의 유형별 신뢰지수 및 신뢰성 평가요인)

  • This study tried to develop the confidence indicators and evaluation factors of credibility according to the types of online information by nationwide large scale online survey. The main results are summarized as follows: i) confidence indicators by types of online information: information on news sites(72.553), financial companies(68.894), government sites(67.938), cafe(66.464), portal sites(65.001), collective intelligence sites(63.489), nonprofit organization (63.392), company/corporation sites(59.789), blog(59.066), online community sites(55.609), e-commerce sites(55.118), mini-homepage(50.695). ii) 'Widely known site' or 'famous site' is the most important factor for all types of online information. User opinions like as posting or comment are major factors for sites of cafe, blog, mini-homepage, online community, collective intelligence etc. and 'name recognition' and 'reputation' are main factors for site of financial company, corporation, government, nonprofit organization.

The Influences of Cognitive Authority of Online Information Sources on Information Quality Evaluation (온라인 정보원의 인지적 권위에 대한 인식이 정보의 품질 평가에 미치는 영향)

  • Due to the fact that cognitive authority influences an individual's thoughts so that a given information is perceived as appropriate, people evaluate information based on their cognitive authority. The purpose of the present study is to examine the perception of the cognitive authority of online information sources used by college students to carry out their academic tasks, and to determine whether such perceptions affect the quality assessment of information sources, such as webpages, e-journals, and Wikipedia,. Specifically, we measured how cognitive authority, which were formed by the author, the surface, and the content of an information source influenced its accuracy, usefulness, completeness, and expertise. For this purpose, online surveys were conducted with college students, and 172 valid responses were obtained. Findings indicated that all the characteristics that formed the cognitive authority of an information source had significant impacts on its accuracy, usefulness, completeness, and expertise. The study suggests academic implications that confirm the associations between cognitive authority and credibility of information in the context of online information sources. Furthermore, the study provides practical implications that system developers or operators of information sources need to consider diverse factors that affect their cognitive authority to promote users' trust on the information that they deliver.

A Study on the Information Seeking and Utilization of College Students at the Time of Their Political Decision Making During Elections (정치적 의사결정이 필요한 선거기간동안 대학생의 정보 탐색 및 활용에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated how college students seek and use information sources at the time of their decision making (especially during elections on this study). More than 360 students in 12 colleges located in Seoul were randomly selected and participated in this study. The survey asked them what kind of information sources they use at the time of their decision making as well as when they use information as usual. Several criteria for information evaluation were adopted to analyze information attributes and information seeking behavior of the population. Compare to the previous studies, Internet resources are more used than ever, information credibility and authority affected more to the population's political decision making. Additional examinations were executed to see deeper story of their information seeking at the end.

A Study on the Relevance Judgement of College Students in Problem Solving Process (대학생의 과제해결과정 중 정보적합성 판단에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study are to analyze relevance judgement of college students' problem solving process and suggest improvements for information literacy education in higher education. The in-depth interviews were conducted with 9 subjects to identify relevance judgement processes and problems. As a result, the main problems during relevance judgement processes were judgement about content of document aligned with subject's opinion, judgement about reliability of newspaper articles, shortage of relevance judgement time due to deadline of an assignment and judgement of relationship of documents and evaluation result. The recommendations for information literacy education are as follows: objective relevance judgement education, guidance of reliable information source;showing guideline of using reference information by professor and emphasis of engaging in information (4.1 stage of Big 6).

Effects of Source Credibility of Political Youtubers on Voters' Attitude toward Contents and Political Decision Making (정치 유튜버의 공신력 속성이 콘텐츠 태도와 유권자의 정치적 의사결정에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of source credibility of political youtubers on attitude toward contents and politicians/political party and political decision making. The total number of 326 responses from online survey were analyzed. Results indicate that three factors of source credibility, similarity, charisma, and expertise positively affected attitude toward political contents on youtube in statistical significance. Five attributes of source credibility, familiarity, charisma, similarity, attractiveness, and trustworthiness positively affected attitude toward political youtube contents and politicians/political parties. Furthermore, attitude toward contents and politicians/political parties significantly increased voting intention to politicians/political parties.

  • Providing reliable and high quality information sources will be one of the basic skills of librarians in the future. Therefore, this study proposed evaluation criteria for health-related information sources based on a survey of public and medical librarians. As a result, a total of 21 items were selected as evaluation items, in three groups. The first, the health information content group, had 13 evaluation items, including accuracy, recency, medical expertise, regular updates, consideration of audience, objectivity, ease of understanding, plain (non-scientific or technical) language, completeness, relevance to the topic, verifiability, citation of information sources, and specification of precautions or warnings. The second group, the health-information sources group, had 5 evaluation items including clarity of health information for achieving its purpose, clarification of the responsibility of health information, compliance to the privacy policy, fairness of health information providers, and ethics of health information providers. The third group was the health-information website design group, and featured 4 evaluation criteria: ease of access, search capabilities, website ease of use, and query-response services.

The Effects of E-WOM in Selecting the Mobile Application (모바일 어플리케이션 선택과정에서 전자적 구전의 효과)

  • The purpose of paper is to confirm the role of E-WOM(Electronic Worth of Mouth) in decision making of selecting the mobile application via smart-phone or tablet pc. Particularly i wished to confirm the effects of others' positive or negative reviews in purchasing(free downloading) mobile applications. To resolve these research questions, the secondary data or previous research were collected and arranged theoretically. From literature research, i made out the proposed model to explain the relationships between the variables, executed the operational definitions and 14 Hypotheses were established, collected the survey data of 228 mobile application users. Using the empirical test analysis, previous performances to confirm the construct validity and internal consistency and PLS(Partial Least Square) modelling method was executed. The test result showed that proposed relations of variables was empirically identified, therefore, i got the conclusion as followings; First, attributes of mobile application users' reviews have the effects positively to usefulness perception and expected performance. Second, it was significantly tested Usefulness of Online Review and Expected Performance. Second, Usefulness of Online Review, Source Credibility and Expected Performance have effect positively to Intention of Review Adoption.

Credibility Judgement of Information by Tweens (트윈세대의 정보 신뢰성 판단에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigates the credibility judgements of information by tweens using digital media and information. Particularly, the study focused on tweens' perception of internet research and information use and on their credibility judgement of source and message, internet service providers, and on consulting with others for their credibility judgement. The survey methodology was used to collect data from grade 5 and 6 students in two elementary schools whose parents are likely in middle and upper class. 336 valid questionnaires were collected among 400. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and t-test were used to analyze the data collected using SPSS 25. Findings suggested that tweens understood the importance of using smart media and computers, that they used Youtube, Naver, Kakao talk, Naver JisikIN much in sequence, and that they believed the Internet research was easy and fun. Using exploratory factor analysis, the survey questions for credibility judgement were classified into three factors: Internet service providers, sources and information, and consulting with others. Tweens used sources and information credibility, consulting with others credibility, Internet service providers credibility in sequence. However, it was interesting to find that there were greater deviation in answers on knowing how to find out the cognitive authority of the authors and on the importance of using current information. This study suggests the critical need for tweens' credibility judgement research for promoting critical thinking skills as well as for proactive educational practices in schools and libraries on information literacy.

A Proposal on Hybrid-Rank Metrics based on Reliability (신뢰성을 기반으로 한 하이브리드 랭크 매트릭 제안)

  • 최근 사용자들의 참여, 개방, 공유가 주요 이슈로 떠오르면서 전문적이고 정확한 정보를 웹에서 찾고자 하는 사용자의 요구가 증가하고 있다. 그러나 정보의 범람으로 사용자가 원하는 정보를 찾기 어려우며, 찾는다 해도 그 정보에 대한 신뢰성을 판단하기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 신뢰성이 결여되기 쉬운 정보원에서 특정 정보에 대한 신뢰성과 검색의 효율성을 높이기 위해 새로운 랭크 매트릭을 제안하고, 이러한 제안에 기반을 두고 민간의학 정보에 대한 웹 사이트를 구현하였다. 제안하는 매트릭은 사용자 레벨에 기반하여, 레벨에 따른 평가 가중치(weight)를 차등화하여 글의 점수를 부여하는 방법이다. 이러한 방법은 참여자의 심리적 요소를 반영하여 글의 신뢰도를 높이는 방법으로 신뢰성이 결여되기 쉬운 정보의 신뢰도를 높일 수 있는 방안으로 사용될 수 있다.
