A study on the micro-hole machining for micro-extruding die (극세선용 압출다이의 미세구멍 가공기술 연구)

  • The micro-extruding die is a die for manufacturing of fine-wire by extruding process. The fine-wire made from the micro-extruding can be effectively applied to fields of semiconductor parts and medical parts etc. It is predicted that the demand of fine-wire in industry is more and more increasing. In this study $\Phi$ 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ micro-drill which is coated with diamond is used for drilling of super micro-hole sues. For the machining of taper parts of entrance and exit, drill having $\Phi$ 9mm inclination angle 20$^{\circ}$ is used. This is useful for anti tool-breakage in drilling process. After micro-drilling, the polishing process by abrasive is carried out for increasing surface roughness.

  • In case of aluminum-cased battery, The ratio of height and base of square is generally above the ten times, square-shaped and problem of non-axis symmetry. It is typical model to set up the analysis method of finite element. The reliable analysis of finite element method is suggested, which is used to investigate the possibility that multi-stage deep drawing and ironing used currently is replaced by backward impact extrusion favorable in the respect of cost production and productivity. The influence of parameter was analyzed and compared, which was considered to analyze the process of large deformation plasticity such as extrusion. Die and billet was made as the same shape of finite element model. The results of experiment show good forming without the rupture and wrinkles with the optimum velocity 100mm/sec obtained by analysis.

  • A kinematically-admissible velocity field is proposed to determine the forming load the average extruded length and the velocity distribution in the forward and backward extrusion process of a socket. Experiments are carried out with antimony-lead billets at room temperature using the rectangular punch and the hexagonal die. The theoretical predictions of the forming load and the average extruded length are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • A impeller hub is usually made through three forging processes : forward extrustion, upsetting and finishing. The finishing process is closed die forging in which the load increases abruptly at the final stage, resulting in underfilling in the finished product due to insufficient load capacity of the press. In this study, the rigid-plastic finite element analysis was applied to the impeller hub forging process in order to optimize process and to estimate required load. As a result, two kind of improvements for the process were suggested to reduce the load requirement in the finishing process.

  • A new KAVF(kinematically-admissible velocity field) is proposed to determine the forming load, the average extruded length and the flow pattern is the extrusion/forging process of polygonal headed bars. Experiments are carried out with lead billets at room temperature using regular polygonal shaped punches. The theoretical predictions of the forming load and the average extruded length are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • A kinematically admissible velocity field is derived to analyze the forming load and the extruded length in the extrusion/forging process of trochoidally headed bars from round billets. The forming load and the extruded length are obtained by minimizing the total energy-consumption rate. Experiments are carried out with lead billets at room temperature using trochoidally shaped punches. The theoretical predictions of forming load and extruded length are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this study, a hybrid powder-extrusion process involving the control of temperature dwelling time for improving the formability of Zn-22Al powder was developed and the effect of dwelling time on the mechanical properties of a spur gear with a pitch circle having a diameter of 1.8 mm was investigated. General extrusion experiments were carried out at different temperatures such as 290, 300, and $310^{\circ}C$. Spur gears with good qualities and without any surface defects were obtained in the case of extrusion temperature of $310^{\circ}C$ and ball-milling duration of 32 h. The Vickers hardness distribution was non-uniform, and after the sintering process, an internal crack was generated because of the different deformation energy between gear central part and teeth. To overcome the abovementioned problems, research on controlling the dwelling time of the extrusion temperature in the powder-extrusion process was carried out. Good-quality spur gears were obtained when the dwelling time was 15 min.

  • A new kinematically admissible velocity field for a generalized three-dimensional flow is introduced, in which the flow is bounded by an analytic die-profile function. Then, by applying the upper-bound method th the velocity field, the flow patterns as the upper-bound method are obtained. Extrusion of elliptic sections from round billets is chosen as a computational example. Computation and experiments are carried out for work-hardening material such as aluminum alloy 2024. In order to visualize the plastic flow, the grid marking technique is employed. The theoretical predictions both in extrusion load and deformed pattern are in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • In general, cylinderical types of billet are use in the backward extrusion. It is difficult to obtain homogenious wall thickness by the backward extrusion using these. It is gradually increased that improving the accuracyand reducing the post machining of the final products. In manufacturing cup shaped parts by backward extrusion, it is very important to design optimal initial billet or preform. These can improve the accuracy of final products and remove the post machining processes. In this study, the influence of final parts geometry by the shape of initial billet as non machined types are discussed.

  • The process design of backward and forward extrusion of axisymmetric part has been studied in this paper. The important factors of cold forging process with complex geometry are the design of initial billet shape, the possibility of forming by one-stage operation and the determination of preform shapes, etc. Based on the systematic procedure of process sequence design, the forming operation of cold forged part is analyzed by the commercial finite element program, DEFORM. The design criteria are forming load, geo- metrical filling without defect and a sound distribution of effective strain in final product. It is noted that one step of preform operation is required to obtain the final product. Numerical result is compared with experi- mental one. It is found that the analyzed result is in good agreement with actual forming result.
