When multiple clients share bandwidth and receive a streaming service, HTTP Adaptive Streaming has a problem in that the bandwidth is measured inaccurately due to the ON-OFF pattern of the segment request. To solve the problem caused by the ON-OFF pattern, the proposed PANDA (Probe AND Adapt) determines the quality of the segment to be requested while increasing the target bandwidth. However, since the target bandwidth is increased by a fixed amount, there is a problem in low bandwidth utilization and a slow response to changes in bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a video quality control scheme that improves the low bandwidth utilization and slow responsiveness of PANDA. The proposed scheme adjusts the amount of increase in the target bandwidth according to the bandwidth utilization after judging the bandwidth utilization by comparing the segment download time and the request interval. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can fully utilize the bandwidth and can quickly respond to changes in bandwidth.
Research about QoS in the ad-hoc networks for stable service of various applications has been needed as the expectation about the realization of the ad-hoc networks grows bigger. Existing researches about QoS in the ad-hoc network had the problems which can not guarantee the quantitative services or create the overhead. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm of QFAN(QoS Framework for Ad-hoc Networks) the framework to resolve such problems and considered application of the proposed algorithm into the ad-hoc networks. Our model can guarantee the minimum bandwidth of the real-time traffic as minimized the overhead. And, disproportionate distribution of bandwidth problem can resolve by the proposed algorithm through the fair share between real-time traffic and best-effort traffic about available bandwidth. We design both the TiRe(Tiny Reservation) and the ADR(Adaptive Drop Rate) control algorithm to apply the proposed QFAN. Using simulation, we confirm fair share of available bandwidth between real-time traffic and best-effort traffic as guarantee minimum required bandwidth of real-time traffic.
Previous works for the AE(Assured Forwarding) service in the Diffserv network have no sufficient consideration on the fairness of bandwidth share based on the target rate and the effect or RTT and UDP. Also Previous works act like Best-effort service in the UPN(under-Provisioned Network) condition. In this paper, in order to solve these problems, we propose the PFDSA(Proportionally Fair Differentiated Service Architecture) composed of tmTRA3CM(tcp-microflow based Target rate and an Aware Three color Marking), um3CM(udp-microflow based Three color Marker), TRBD(Target Rate Based Dropper), and target rate adjusting function. In the results of comparing the performance among existing mechanisms and the PFDSA, the PFDSA was able to mitigate the RTT and UDP effect better than the former. The PFDSA was shown to provide good performance for transmission rates proportional to various target rates in the UPN condition.
Recently, there has been increasingly demand for connecting a embedded device to the Internet. Jini technology is interested in automatically composing a distributed network with devices But, there are some problems that the device needs high hardware requirements to adopt Jini technology for supporting Jini-enabled services. In this paper, we focused on design and implementation of surrogate system that supports non-Java devices in Jini networks. This system and protocol are implemented in Java language. The surrogate system delegates Discovery and Join processing to support a Jini service in connected networks. A Jini client can use service of the device through the surrogate system. We tested a Jini sample program to verify the implemented surrogate system. In the test result, we showed that the Jini client can use functionalities and operations of the non-Java device through the surrogate system.
In recent years, there have been many researches about Ad-hoc Networks which is available to communicate freely between mobile devices by using multi-hop without any support of relay base or access point. TCP that used the most widely transport protocol in the Internet repeats packet loss and retransmission because it increases congestion window size by using reactive congestion control until packet loss occurs. As a result of this, energy of mobile device is wasted unnecessarily. In this paper, we propose TCP-New Veno in order to improve the energy efficiency of mobile device. According to the state of network, the scheme adjusts appropriate size of congestion window. Therefore, the energy efficiency of mobile device and utilization of bandwidth are improved by the scheme. From the simulation by using ns-2, we could see more improved energy efficiency with TCP-New Veno than those with TCP in Ad-hoc Networks.
In a wireless network, TCP causes the performance degradation because of mistaking packet loss, which is caused by characteristics of wireless link and throughput oscillation due to change of devices connected on a limited bandwidth. Delay based TCP is not affected by packet loss because it controls window size by using the RTT. Therefore, it can solve the problem of unnecessary degradation of the rate caused by misunderstanding reason of packet loss. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for improving the remaining problems by using delay based TCP. The proposed scheme can change throughput adaptively by adding the RTT, which rapidly reflects the network conditions to BaseRTT. It changes the weight of RTT and the increases and decreases window size based on the remaining amount of the buffer. The simulation indicated that proposed scheme can alleviate the throughput oscillation problem, as compared to the legacy TCP Vegas.

In the area of wireless sensor networks, sensor coverage and network connectivity problems are caused by a limited detection range and the communication distance of the nodes. To solve the coverage and connectivity problems, many studies are suggested, but most research is restricted to apply into the real environment because they didn't consider various environmental factors on wireless sensor network deployment. So in this paper, we propose a node deployment strategy considering environmental factors and the number of nodes in surveillance and reconnaissance sensor networks(SRSN). The proposed node deployment method divides the installation of the surveillance and reconnaissance sensor networks system into four steps such as identification of influences factors for node placement through IPB process, sensor node deployment based on sensing range, selection of monitoring site, and relay node deployment based on RF communication range. And it deploys the sensor nodes and relay nodes considered the features of the surveillance and reconnaissance sensor network system and environmental factors. The result of simulation indicates that the proposed node deployment method improves sensor coverage and network connectivity.
While today's networks have been shown to exhibit HBDP (High Bandwidth Delay Product) characteristics, the legacy TCP increases the size of the congestion window slowly and decreases the size of the congestion window drastically such that it is not suitable for HBDP Networks. In order to solve this problem with the legacy TCP, many congestion control TCP mechanisms have been proposed. C-TCP (Compound-TCP) is a hybrid TCP which is a synergy of delay-based and loss-based approaches. C-TCP adapts the decreasing rate of the delay window without considering the congestion level, leading to degradation of performance. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to improve the performance of C-TCP. By controlling the increasing and decreasing rates according to the congestion level of the network, our proposed scheme can improve the bandwidth occupancy and fairness of C-TCP. Through performance evaluation, we show that our proposed scheme offers better performance in HBDP networks as compared to the legacy C-TCP.

TCP does not ensure the bandwidth and delay bound required for multimedia streaming services in broadband wireless network environments. In this paper, we propose a new congestion control scheme for efficient multimedia transmission, called COLO TCP (Concave Increase Slow Start Logarithmic Increase Congestion Avoidance TCP). The COLO TCP prevents the burst packet loss by applying the concave increase algorithm in slow start phase. In the congestion avoidance phase, COLO TCP uses the logarithmic increase algorithm that quickly recovers congestion window after packet loss. To highly utilize network bandwidth and reduce packet loss ratio, COLO TCP uses additive increase algorithm and adaptive decrease algorithm. Through simulation results, we prove that our COLO TCP is more robust for random loss. It is also possible for efficient multimedia transmission.

Wireless sensor networks are installed in various environments and collect sensing data through wireless links. The quality of a wireless link may be unstable due to environment causes and hardware performance in wireless sensor networks. Since the change of the link quality may cause data loss, sensor nodes need to adaptively estimate the change of the link quality. Also, the routing protocol should deal with this situation. In this paper, the adaptive link quality estimation and routing scheme in the large-scale wireless sensor networks are proposed. When the quality of a link is unstable, sensor nodes agilely estimate the quality of links, and the new route is selected. When quality of a link is stable, the link quality is occasionally estimated so that the energy consumption is reduced. Moreover, sensor nodes exchange less beacons in order to reduce an overhead in dense networks. In the case of sparse network, the sensor nodes exchange more beacons for finding a better route. We prove that the proposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency and reliability.
