The strength of the connecting joint of boxthorn(Lycium chinense Mill) fruits to tree twigs was determined experimentally at several pulling angles(0$^{\circ}$, 15$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$,45$^{\circ}$and 60$^{\circ}$) and at different harvesting seasons from August to November 1999 using an universal testing machine. The detachment force of mature fruits of boxthorn decreased as the pulling angle increased and varied with the harvesting season. The detachment force however did not gradually decreased as the harvesting season advanced due to difference of maturity of fruits from one harvesting season to another. Among three varieties of boxthron Cheongyang gugija Cheongyang native and Cheongyang #2, the maximum detachment force was 1.24 N at the pulling angle of zero degree. The highest detachment forve(1.29 N) of mature fruits of boxthorn appeared at the harvesting season of August, 1999.

The beam-column connection using high-strength GFRP bars exhibited a comparable flexural strength but brittle failure mode, when compared with those of connection using high-strength steel reinforcement.
This paper summarizes the results of full-scale cyclic seismic performance tests on three column-tree type steel moment connections. Each test specimen consisted of a $H-600{\times}200$ beam and a $H-400{\times}400$ column of SS41 (SS400). Key parameter included was column PZ (panel zone) strength relative to beam strength. The seismic performance of specimen with stronger PZ tended to be inferior. Total plastic rotations available in the specimens ranged from 1.8 to 3.0 (% rad). The limited test results in this study seem to support the speculation that permitting PZ yielding shall be more beneficial to enhancing total plastic rotation capacity of the moment connection. Beam flange fracture across the heat affected zone and divot-type pullout of the column flange were observed in the tests. A conceptual mechanical model consistent with observed test results was also sought.

The pile-cap connection part which transfers foundation loads through pile body is critical element regarding flexural and shear force because the change of area, stress, and stiffness occurs in the this region suddenly. The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of pile-cap connection dependent on fabrication methods using conventional PHC pile and composite PHC pile. A series of test under cyclic lateral load was performed and the connection behavior was discussed. From the test results, it was found that the initial rotational stiffness of pile-cap connection was affected by the length of pile-head inserted in footing and the location of longitudinal reinforcing bars. The types of pile and location of longitudinal reinforcing bars governed the behavior of pile-cap connection regarding load-carrying capacity, ductility, and energy dissipation.
Double split tee connection has various strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation capacity according to changes of thickness of T-stub flange and gauge distance, number, and diameter of high-strength bolt. If the double split tee connection is applied to a low- or medium-rise steel structure, a shear tab can't be applied for supporting shear force because of geometrical limitation. So it is required to propose details of improved double split tee connection to support shear force as well as flexural force. This research was performed to see if enough rotational stiffness is found when the double split tee connection without shear tab which was obtained through analytic and experimental researches by Yang et al. is applied to a low- or medium-rise steel structure. Also, it was seen if the low- or medium-rise steel structure having double split tee connection without shear tab has safe structural behavior, as well as material saving effect.
This paper summarizes full-scale test results on CFT column-to- flat plate connections has gained wide acceptance subjected to gravity loading. CFT construction has gained wide acceptance in a relatively short time in domestic building construction practice due to its various structural and construction advantages. However, efficient details for CFT column to flat plate connections have not been proposed yet. Based on the strategies that maximize economical field construction, several connecting schemes were proposed and tested. Test results showed strength and connection stiffness exceeding those of R/C flat p late counterparts. A semi-analytical procedure is presented to model the behavior of CFT column-to-flat plate connections. The five parameters to model elastic to post-punching catenary action range are calibrated based on the limited test data of t to progressive collapse prevention design is also illustrated.

Vacuum brazing is the most modern brazing process and is at present, far from being completely understood. By brazing under high vacuum, in an atmosphere free of oxidizing gases, a superior product with greater strength, ductility and uniformity can be obtained. In this study, the influence of brazing parameters such as base metal characteristics, joint clearance and brazing time were described in relation to the metallurgical phenomena and shear strength of vacuum-brazed joints between carbon steels and 304 stainless steel (SUS 304) brazed by copper filler metal. In copper brazing of SUS 304 to a medium carbon steel(M.C.S) the columnar Fe-Cr-Ni-Cu-C alloy structure was formed and grew from the M.C.S side and at the same time, the surface of M.C.S. was decarbonized. The driving force for the formation and growth of columnar structure was the difference of carbon content between base metals. As the joint clearance is narrower and brazing time is longer, the formation and growth of columnar phase and decarburization of carbon steels were more noticeable. Because of decarburization of carbon steels, the shear strength of brazed joints were reduced as the formation of columnar structure was increased.

The aim of this study is to investigate punching shear strength of exterior connections in the flat plate structure with rectangular column. To inspect the effect of column aspect ratios on the punching shear behavior, eight specimens for exterior connection were made and tested. In this experimental program the length of critical perimeter was kept constant, while column aspect ratio varied from 2.0 to 4.5. Two levels of concrete strength and slab reinforcement ratio were also considered. As the column aspect ratio increased, the punching shear strengths are decreased. The decrement of punching shear strength was small in specimens with high aspect ratio of column.

In this study, a pull-out test considering the adhesive type, embedded length, and direction of re-bar was conducted to evaluate the pull-out performance of glued-in rod joints using timber and adhesive produced in Korea. In the test, the specimens using liquid adhesive showed better pull-out performance, and the longer the embedded length of the re-bar, the higher the maximum tensile load by inducing the yield of the re-bar first. Through the test results, a glued-in rod joints design, which is advantageous to design the adhesive strength stronger than the yield strength of re-bar, was proposed, and a correction factor of 0.75 for the adhesive strength considering construction error was also suggested.
