이동형 의료영상 장치를 위한 JPEG2000 영상 뷰어 개발

  • 목적 : 현재, 많은 병원이 방사선과 의료영상정보를 기존의 필름형태로 판독하고, 진료하는 방식에서 PACS 를 도입하여 디지털 형태로 영상을 전송, 저장, 검색, 판독하는 환경으로 변화하고 있다. 한편, PACS 가 가지는 가장 큰 제한점은 휴대성의 결핍이다. 본 연구는 이동형 장치가 가지는 호스트의 이동성 및 휴대성의 장점들을 살리면서, 무선 채널 용량의 한계, 무선 링크 사용이라는 제약점들을 감안하여 의료영상을 JPEG2000 영상압축 방식으로 부호화한 후 무선 환경을 고려한 전송 패킷의 크기를 결정하고자 하였으며, 무선 통신 중 발생되는 패킷 손실에 대응하기 위한 자동 오류 수정 기능도 함께 구현하고자하였다. 방법 : Window 2000 운영체계에서 의료영상을 로드하고, 데이터베이스화하며, 저장하고, 다른 네트워크와 접속, 제어가 가능한 PC급 서버를 구축하였다. 영상데이터는 무선망을 통해 전송하기 때문에 가장 높은 압축비율을 지원하면서 에너지 밀도가 높은 JPEG2000 알고리즘을 사용하여 영상을 압축하였다. 또한, 무선망 사용으로 인한 패킷 손실에 대비하여, 영상을 JPEG2000 방식으로 부호화한 후 각 블록단위로 전송하였다. 결과 : PDA에서 JPEG2000 영상을 복호화 하는데 걸리는 시간은 256$\times$256 크기의 MR 뇌영상의 경우 바로 확인할 수 있었지만, 800$\times$790 크기의 CR 흉부 영상의 경우 약 5 초 정도의 시간이 걸렸다. CDMA 1X(Code Division Multiple Access 1st Generation) 모듈을 사용하여 영상을 전송하는 경우, 256 byte/see 정도에서는 안정된 전송 결과를 보여주었고, 1 Kbyte/see 정도의 전송의 경우 중간 중간에 패킷이 손실되는 결과를 관찰할 수 있었다. 반면 무선 랜의 경우 이보다 더 큰 패킷을 전송하더라도 문제점은 발견되지 않았다. 결론 : 현재의 PACS는 유선과 무선사이의 인터페이스의 부재로 인해 유무선 연동이 되지 못하고 있다. 따라서 이동형 JPEG2000 영상 뷰어는 PACS가 가지는 문제점인 휴대성을 보완하기 위하여 개발되었다. 또한 무선망이 가지는 데이터 손실에 대하여서도 허용할 수 있는 범위에서 재전송을 가능하게 함으로서 약한 연결성을 보완하였다. 본 JPEG2000 영상 뷰어 시스템은 기존 유선상의 PACS와 이동형 장치간에 유기적인 인터페이스 역할을 하리라 기대된다.

  • 최근 경제성장과 함께 생활수준의 향상으로 인하여 홈 게이트웨이는 디지털 홈 가전기기에 초고속 통신망 접속 기능을 제공하며 각종 기기들을 하나로 네트워크화 하는 중요한 기능을 담당하게 된다. 전력선 통신은 전력선을 매체로 하기 때문에 신규선로의 포설 없이 가전기기 및 정보화 서비스 모뎀들의 네트워크화에 용이할 뿐만 아니라 커버리지 확장에도 뛰어나서 디지털 가전, 원격검침, 전력설비 감시제어, 국가 재난 감시 시스템 등의 기본 통신 방식으로 가장 유력한 기술로써 디지털 가전을 포함한 유비쿼터스 전기설비 네트워크 구성에서 필수적 기술로 채택되고 있기 때문에 지능형 홈 네트워크, 전력IT 부가 서비스, 설비감시 네트워크, 유비쿼터스 네트워크 관련 기술에 대한 파급 효과가 매우 크며, 디지털 가전의 기본 통신 방식으로 가장 유력한 기술로써 디지털 가전 구성에서 필수적 기술로 채택되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 전력선통신모뎀을 이용하여 가전기기의 전력 소비를 감지할 수 있는 센서를 내장한 전력선 통신기반의 전력 감시 모듈을 개발하여 실시간 원격 모니터링을 통해 소비전력 패턴을 작성한다. 그리고 전력감시 모듈에 연결된 가전기기의 소비전력 패턴 분석을 통해 전력소비 이상 유무를 감지할 수 있는 알고리즘을 개발, 탑재하여 이상 유무를 판단하고 전력소비가 급증할 시 자동으로 전력을 차단하여 화재나 누전의 위험을 방지한다. 이에 본 연구는 전력감시 및 이상전력 차단기능을 갖는 저전력 전력선통신 모뎀 개발에 관한 것이다.

  • With the advent of Ubiquitous environment, wired-wireless combination network is being studied very actively in which mobile nodes having multi-hop communication capability connect wired internet network easily, and shares the information. The study of wired and wireless combination network between MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network) and wired network is being focused only on the configuration of heterogeneous network interface. The proposed algorithm establishes independent multi-paths between source node and destination node to prevent data loss when errors happen in route. As the result, it shows that the reliability of the combination network can be improved by making data transmit continuously on the route error.

Image Transmission Using Designed Source-Channel Combined Coder for Mobile Communication Systems (이동통신 시스템을 위한 소스코더와 결합된 채널코딩방법에 의한 영상전송)

  • In this paper, we present the efficient image transmission system using designed source-channel combined coder in W-CDMA mobile communication system. In proposed schemes, we decompose the wavelet transformed hierarchical band-images into some types of different size blocks which have different properties in error sensitivity. The RS(Reed-Solomon) coder with different coding rate is used for each decomposed source blocks which has different importance. In addition, we combine retransmitted error frames in Truncated Hybrid Type I ARQ. The proposed algorithm shows efficient image transmission methods because it is not much degraded in PSNR compared with the existing not combined source-channel coder in erroneous wireless channel.

  • According to the shut-down of Analog TV service on 30th. December, 2012, UHF Digital Dividend Band (698~806MHz) could be used for Mobile service such as LTE(Long Term Evolution). In the condition that this band is allocated for LTE service, Interference evaluation between LTE and adjacent DTV service was carried out, using LTE-A system-level simulator which was developed for simulation of IMT-Advanced technology. If LTE service be commercialized in this band, this study proposes the coexistence condition through the interference evaluation such as the effects not only to DTV receiver from LTE terminal but also to LTE base station from DTV transmitter. It is expected that the coexistence condition by these studies will be applied to network algorism for IMT-Advanced system in this band.

Interaction Between TCP and MAC-layer to Improve TCP Flow Performance over WLANs (유무선랜 환경에서 TCP Flow의 성능향상을 위한 MAC 계층과 TCP 계층의 연동기법)

  • In recent years, the needs for WLANs(Wireless Local Area Networks) technology which can access to Internet anywhere have been dramatically increased particularly in SOHO(Small Office Home Office) and Hot Spot. However, unlike wired networks, there are some unique characteristics of wireless networks. These characteristics include the burst packet losses due to unreliable wireless channel. Note that burst packet losses, which occur when the distance between the wireless station and the AP(Access Point) increase or when obstacles move temporarily between the station and AP, are very frequent in 802.11 networks. Conversely, due to burst packet losses, the performance of 802.11 networks are not always as sufficient as the current application require, particularly when they use TCP at the transport layer. The high packet loss rate over wireless links can trigger unnecessary execution of TCP congestion control algorithm, resulting in performance degradation. In order to overcome the limitations of WLANs environment, MAC-layer LDA(Loss Differentiation Algorithm)has been proposed. MAC-layer LDA prevents TCP's timeout by increasing CRD(Consecutive Retry Duration) higher than burst packet loss duration. However, in the wireless channel with high packet loss rate, MAC-layer LDA does not work well because of two reason: (a) If the CRD is lower than burst packet loss duration due to the limited increase of retry limit, end-to-end performance is degraded. (b) energy of mobile device and bandwidth utilization in the wireless link are wasted unnecessarily by Reducing the drainage speed of the network buffer due to the increase of CRD. In this paper, we propose a new retransmission module based on Cross-layer approach, called BLD(Burst Loss Detection) module, to solve the limitation of previous link layer retransmission schemes. BLD module's algorithm is retransmission mechanism at IEEE 802.11 networks and performs retransmission based on the interaction between retransmission mechanisms of the MAC layer and TCP. From the simulation by using ns-2(Network Simulator), we could see more improved TCP throughput and energy efficiency with the proposed scheme than previous mechanisms.

  • This paper reports a research to develop a methodology and a tool for understanding of very large and complex real-time software. The methodology and the tool mostly developed by the author are called the Architecture-based Real-time Software Understanding (ARSU) and the Software Re/reverse-engineering Environment (SRE) respectively. Due to size and complexity, it is commonly very hard to understand the software during reengineering process. However the research facilitates scalable re/reverse-engineering of such real-time software based on the architecture of the software in three-dimensional perspectives: structural, functional, and behavioral views. Firstly, the structural view reveals the overall architecture, specification (outline), and the algorithm (detail) views of the software, based on hierarchically organized parent-chi1d relationship. The basic building block of the architecture is a software Unit (SWU), generated by user-defined criteria. The architecture facilitates navigation of the software in top-down or bottom-up way. It captures the specification and algorithm views at different levels of abstraction. It also shows the functional and the behavioral information at these levels. Secondly, the functional view includes graphs of data/control flow, input/output, definition/use, variable/reference, etc. Each feature of the view contains different kind of functionality of the software. Thirdly, the behavioral view includes state diagrams, interleaved event lists, etc. This view shows the dynamic properties or the software at runtime. Beside these views, there are a number of other documents: capabilities, interfaces, comments, code, etc. One of the most powerful characteristics of this approach is the capability of abstracting and exploding these dimensional information in the architecture through navigation. These capabilities establish the foundation for scalable and modular understanding of the software. This approach allows engineers to extract reusable components from the software during reengineering process.

  • Currently, as a consequence of PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System) implementation many hospitals are replacing conventional film-type interpretations of diagnostic medical images with new digital-format interpretations that can also be saved, and retrieve However, the big limitation in PACS is considered to be the lack of mobility. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal communication packet size. This was done by considering the terms occurred in the wireless communication. After encoding medical image using JPGE2000 image compression method, This method embodied auto-error correction technique preventing the loss of packets occurred during wireless communication. A PC class server, with capabilities to load, collect data, save images, and connect with other network, was installed. Image data were compressed using JPEG2000 algorithm which supports the capability of high energy density and compression ratio, to communicate through a wireless network. Image data were also transmitted in block units coeded by JPEG2000 to prevent the loss of the packets in a wireless network. When JPGE2000 image data were decoded in a PUA (Personal Digital Assistant), it was instantaneous for a MR (Magnetic Resonance) head image of 256${\times}$256 pixels, while it took approximately 5 seconds to decode a CR (Computed Radiography) chest image of 800${\times}$790 pixels. In the transmission of the image data using a CDMA 1X module (Code-Division Multiple Access 1st Generation), 256 byte/sec was considered a stable transmission rate, but packets were lost in the intervals at the transmission rate of 1Kbyte/sec. However, even with a transmission rate above 1 Kbyte/sec, packets were not lost in wireless LAN. Current PACS are not compatible with wireless networks. because it does not have an interface between wired and wireless. Thus, the mobile JPEG2000 image viewing system was developed in order to complement mobility-a limitation in PACS. Moreover, the weak-connections of the wireless network was enhanced by re-transmitting image data within a limitations The results of this study are expected to play an interface role between the current wired-networks PACS and the mobile devices.
