The generalized Hoek-Brown (H-B) function provides a unique failure condition for a jointed rock mass, in which the strength parameters of rock mass are deduced from the intact values by use of the GSI value. Since it is actually the only failure criterion which accounts for the rock mass conditions in a systematic manner, the generalized H-B criterion finds many applications to the various rock engineering projects. Its nonlinear character, however, limits more active usage of this criterion. Accordingly, many attempts have been made to understand the generalized H-B condition in the framework of the M-C function. This study presents the closed-form expression relating the tangential cohesion to the tangential friction angle, which is derived by the non-dimensional stress transformation of the generalized H-B criterion. By use of the derived equation, it is investigated how the relationship between the tangential cohesion and friction angle of the generalized H-B criterion varies with the quality of rock masses. When only the variation of GSI value is considered, it is found that the tangential friction angle decreases with the increase of GSI, while the tangential cohesion increases with GSI value.

In this study, UV curing and crosslinking process was introduced for synthesis of acrylic foam tape that can be applied to the the automotive assembly process. Polymerized adhesive are laminated to baseform and varying the thickness of specimens were prepared. To measure basic mechanical properties, stainless steel was used. And in the test peel, dynamic shear and t-block were used. The acrylform adhesive show better results compare with typical adhesive and the properties depand on external factors - thick, wetting time -. To analysis functions of acrylic foam adhesive used to automobile production, evaluate the adhesive properties on the various plastic substrate. In PP and PE are categorized low surface energy materials, their properties have not been expressed. But dynamic shear tests show that some properties could be expressed by the difference break mechanism.
In this research, polymeric anionic surfactants having various molecular weights and acid values were synthesized using a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The CSTR has an advantage of higher production rate and more constant product properties compared to batch and semi-batch reactors. The polymeric surfactants were made using butyl acrylate as a hydrophobic group and acrylic acid as a hydrophilic group. The synthesized polymeric surfactants were ionized with alkali solution and were used as an anionic surfactant. To investigate the properties as a surfactant, the properties of the synthesized surfactant, such as acid value, critical micelle concentration (CMC) and molecular weight, were measured. The results showed that the acid values of the polymeric surfactants were 60 to 380 and a number average molecular weight were 8,000 to 13,000 g/mol. Also, it was found that the CMC was around 0.01 g/ml, which showed similar level values with ordinary surfactant. To prove the performance of the polymeric surfactant, acrylic emulsion PSAs were synthesized using the acquired polymeric surfactant. The results showed that the maximum peel strength of 21.24 N/25mm when acid value was 150 and molecular weight was 8,500 g/mol. The values of peel strength and initial tack of acrylic emulsion PSAs using polymeric surfactant synthesized in this study showed much higher than those of reference PSAs synthesized using ordinary anionic surfactant, SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) and SDS/TRX (Triton X-100).
For soil improvement, sand mats or sand compaction piles are often constructed on soft marine clays. In such cases, some amounts of sand and clay are inevitably mixed. Sand or gravel often exists in the weathered soils near the slope surface. This research investigates the effect of mixing sand content on consistency limits and shear strength of clays. Firstly, sand was mixed with kaolinite or bentonite at 0, 9, 17, 23, 29, 33, 50% and then liquid and plastic limits were measured. Both plastic and liquid limits decreased as a sand content increased. The water content of clay-sand mixtures with different sand content increased by 10% or 20% step by step and then their undrained shear strength was measured using a portable vane shear device called Torvane. For all cases, undrained shear strength of clay-sand mixtures decreased rapidly until reaching a certain value. Their state changed from undrained to drained state gradually as the sand content increased, which caused their undrained shear strength to decrease. On the other hand, a series of direct shear tests were also conducted on such clay-sand mixtures to investigate the effect of sand content on cohesion and angle of internal friction. It was found from clay-sand mixtures that their cohesion decreased but angle of internal friction increased as the sand content increased.
It is crucial to decide reasonably the parameters necessary for design through research on the characteristics of rock in order to analyze stability of rock structure. This article has conducted both pressure meter test, uniaxial and triaxial compression test to the areas of andesite or tuff located in local regions such as Yeosu, Gwangju, Yangsan, Busan, and Daejeon and has comparatively analyzed previously proposed estimative formulas. According to the result of estimating the deformation modulus through using the damping coefficient suggested by Nicholson & Bieniawski, when RMR is less than 60, it is desirable to use the result of the pressure meter test considering the damping coefficient. If the RMR value is over 60, however, the formula suggested by Kim Gyo-won has been proved to be the most applicable. Moreover, according to the result of comparing the RMR, adhesion, and angle of internal friction, both the adhesion and angle of internal friction best correspond to the formula proposed by Tsuchiya. Comparatively analyzing the relations between the rock deformation modulus and RMR and also suggesting the formula of calculating the shear strength parameter to use the RMR value, this study did not include the deformation modulus and shear strength parameter as factors to decide the RMR index. Since result can differ by several factors, it will be necessary afterwards to suggest practical estimative formulas applicable to the actual spots of Korea.
Purpose: Considering the rising frequency of earthquakes in Korea, it is crucial to revise the rainfall thresholds for landslide triggering following earthquake events. This study was conducted to provide scientific justification and preliminary data for adjusting rainfall thresholds for landslide early warnings after earthquakes through soil physical experiments. Method: The study analyzed the change in soil shear strength by direct shear tests on disturbed and undisturbed samples collected from cut slopes. Also, The study analyzed the soil strength parameters of remolded soil samples subjected to drying and wetting conditions, focusing on the relationship between the degree of saturation after submergence and the strength parameters. Result: Compaction water content variation in direct shear tests showed that higher water content and saturation in disturbed samples led to a significant decrease in cohesion (over 50%) and a reduction in shear resistance angle (1~2°). Additionally, during the ring shear tests, the shear strength was observed to gradually decrease once water was supplied to the shear plane. The maximum shear strength decreased by approximately 65-75%, while the residual shear strength decreased by approximately 53-60%. Conclusion: Seismic activity amplifies landslide risk during subsequent rainfall, necessitating proactive mitigation strategies in earthquake-prone areas. This research is anticipated to provide scientific justification and preliminary data for reducing the rainfall threshold for landslide initiation in earthquake-susceptible regions.

A TSL (Thin Spray-on Liner) which consists of polymers has a higher initial strength, faster construction time and higher waterproofing performance than the conventional cementitious shotcrete. Main supporting mechanism of TSL is the adhesion and tensile strength which is distinct from the conventional shotcrete. Even though highly in demand due to its outstanding characteristics, TSL is not yet well-known support material. In this study, to evaluate contact behavior of TSL, numerical analysis was performed with comparing result from laboratory tests. From the analysis, cohesive behavior at the contact surface between TSL and rock can be evaluated by using combination of cohesive and the damage model. In addition, results show that the cohesive stiffness controled slope between force and displacement, the fracture energy controled level of force at the contact.
When drilling investigations for Rock Slopes are not possible, it is often difficult to calculate the Ground Design Constants required for the Limit Equilibrium Analysis. Therefore, the outcrops or partially cutted Rock Slopes were analysed using JRC and JCS that can be easily and conveniently measured. In particular, the effect of the JRC on the Safety Factor or the Rock Slopes was analyzed intensively, and the results were presented as a relationship formula and Table. When the Rock slope was stable, the JRC increased by an average of 9.0% as the slope height increased, and increased by an average of 29.8% as the slope angle increased. JRC was more sensitive to slope angle changes. The Cohesion corresponding to JRC was calculated from JRC-Fs formula. JRC and Cohesion showed a nonlinear relationship, and the Cohesion was about 8.0% more sensitive to slope height changes than slope angle changes.
In this study, a large-scale direct shear test was performed to evaluate the shear characteristics of the pile-soil interface according to the fines content and confining pressure conditions as a reasonable evaluation method of the pullout resistance performance of pile considering the soil conditions. It was found that the shear stress was greatly generated under the conditions of high normal stress and low fines content. In addition, the maximum shear stress was found to be rather large under the conditions of the same normal stress and fines content, when pile surface had high roughness. The internal friction angle decreased at the pile-soil interface, when the fines content in the ground increased. On the other hand, the cohesion decreased under the condition of high fines content. And the internal friction angle and cohesion were large regardless of the fines content in the model ground, when the roughness of the pile surface was high.
In order to lower the surface energy of unsaturated polyester(UPE) resin, small amount of siloxane-ester copolymers were incorporated. The copolymers were synthesized by a condensation polymerization using ethylene glycol and hydroxy termintated polydimethylsiloxane as diols and maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride as dibasic acids. The modified UPE resin surface was characterized by dynamic contact angle (DCA), peel strength measurements of pressure sensitive adhesives and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(ESCA). As the copolymer content in the blend and PDMS content in the copolymer are increased, both advancing and receding contact angles against water are increased. The strength required to peel-off the pressure sensitive adhesive tape from the modified UPE resin decreased dramatically with the addition of the copolymer. ESCA results indicated that polydimethylsiloxane segments are predominated at the outer surface of the modified UPE resin.
