Progressive transmission using optimum bit-ordering of DCT coded image (DCT 부호화 영상의 최적 비트 정렬에 의한 점진적 전송)

  • Progressive transmission using optimum bit-ordering of discrete cosine transform(DCT) coded image is proposed to reconstruct a better image in a few bits among all the coded bits at the receiver. It is to transmit the bit gradually to reduce the distrotion of the reconstructed image most by transmitting one more bit. To do this, the power transfer factor(PTF) which is the squared value of difference between the reconstruction level of embedded quantizer and another reconstruction level made by transmitting one more bit is defined. And then, the transmission order of bits is obtained by sorting the PTFs of the coded bits. As a results, the proposed method can reconstruct image having less distortion and better quality at the same bit rate than the conventional zig-zag scan.

  • Materialized views have received much attention for query performance improvement. They need to be refreshed whenever their underlying data sources are updated. They could be recomputed from scratch or they could be incrementally refreshed by reflecting only those portions of updates that affect them. With emergence of XML as the standard for data exchange on the Web, active research is under way on effectively storing and retrieving XML documents. In this paper, we describe a performance study on the incremental refresh of XML materialized views for the case where XML documents are stored in a relational DBMS, and XML materialized views are maintained with incremental refresh. We describe implementation of a prototype XML storage system that supports XML materialized views and their incremental refresh, and report the performance results obtained with the implemented system through a detailed set of experiments on the incremental refresh of XML materialized views. The results show that the XML view maintenance with incremental refresh outperforms the ordinary view recomputation.

  • 실체뷰는 질의 처리 성능 향상을 위한 수단으로 널리 연구되어 왔다. 이러한 실체뷰는 하부 데이타가 변경되었을 경우에 일관성을 유지해야 하는데, 그 기법으로는 뷰를 하부 데이타로부터 재생성하는 방법과 변경 내용 중 뷰와 관련 있는 것만 반영하는 점진적 갱신이 있다. 최근 XML 이라는 웹 문서 표준이 대두되면서 여러 응용 분야에서 이를 활용 하려는 노력이 진행 중이다. 본 논문에서는 XML문서를 대상으로 하는 XML 실체뷰를 지원하는 XML 저장 시스템의 구현과, 구현된 시스템을 대상으로 실체뷰를 재생성하는 방법과 점진적으로 갱신하는 기법의 성능을 비교 평가한 결과를 기술한다.

Optimum Bit Allocation for Lossless Laplacian Pyramid Coding (비 손실 라플라시안 피라미드 부호화의 최적 비트 배정)

  • In the transmission of image using the lossless Laplacian pyramid coding, the image quality of the last hierachy is almost same regardless of the bit rate of each hierachy. However, at the higher hierachy with low resolution, it is varied according to bit rate of each hierachy. In this paper, optimum bit allocation to achieve better image at the higher hierachy and minimize the distortion at the last hierachy was proposed. More efficient progressive transmission was shown to be possible by experimental results of higher PSNR and better image quality at the hierachy with low resolution.

  • With the prospect of an increasing shortage of energy resources, there has been a growing interest in renewable alternative sources of energy. An increasing effort is being directed towards resolving the problems of extracting energy from the world's oceans, as they represent a vast potential source of renewable energy. This paper summarizes the extraction and conversion techniques of the ocean's energy resources, namely, energy derived from the ocean waves, tides, thermal gradients, and currents. For each energy extraction and conversion technique, case studies are discussed.

Progressive Image Transmission using LOT/CVQ with HVS Weighting (HVS가중치를 갖는 LOT/CVQ를 이용한 점진적 영상 전송)

  • A progressive image transmission (PIT) scheme based on the classified transform vector quantization (CVQ) technique using the lapped orthogonal transform (LOT) and human visual system (HVS) weighting is proposed in this paper. Conventional block transform coding of images using DCT produces in general undesirable block-artifacts at low bit rates. In this paper, image blocks are transformed using the LOT and classified into four classes based on their structural properties and further divided adaptively into subvectors depending on the LOT coefficient statistics with HVS weighting to improve the reconstructed image quality by adaptive bit allocation. The subvectors are vector quantized and transmitted progressively. Coding tests using computer simulations show that the LOT/CVQ based PIT of images is a effective coding scheme. The results are also compared with those obtained using PIT/DCTVQ. The LOT/CVQ based PIT reduces the block-artifacts significantly.

  • Recently, there has been an increasing need to expand the supply of renewable energy as a solution to greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, as a measure to promote domestic renewable energy investment and gradual expansion, this study analyzed the investment value of renewable energy projects utilizing the unoccupied spaces of public enterprise's facilities and presented a strategic decision-making framework to support efficient national land development and government measures. The NPV was estimated to be 286 million won if the expansion of the facility was not considered, but it is reasonable to postpone the expansion decision because the value of -130 million won was calculated if the expansion was considered. On the other hand, the real-option value was estimated to be 444 million won, taking SMP uncertainty, expansion, and abandonment options into account, and an additional value of 288 million won was calculated from an analysis of the expansion project using the existing NPV analysis.

Obligatory Renewable Service Supply Ratio for Promotion of Independent Power Projects (민간발전사업 촉진을 위한 신재생에너지 의무공급량의 비율)

  • 본 논문에서는 2012년 시행된 신재생에너지공급의무화제도(RPS)에 따른 민간발전사들의 RPS 의무이행 현황을 알아보고 신재생에너지 공급인증서의 발급량 부족 및 거래시장에서의 심한 가격변동을 발전사업자들의 RPS 이행시 장애요인으로 분석하였다. RPS시행 이전에 추진하여 최근 준공한 동두천복합발전소에 대한 RPS이행방안 구성결과 연평균 약 334억원의 의무이행비용이 산출되었으며, 해당비용을 당초 사업타당성 검토 기초자료에 반영한 결과 내부수익률이 계획대비 31.8% 저하됨을 알 수 있었다. 신재생에너지 의무공급량의 비율이 해마다 증가하여 2024년부터는 전년도 발전량의 10%를 신재생에너지로 공급해야 하는데 RPS 의무공급 대상자로의 편입 초기부터 10%의 의무공급량을 이행해야 하는 신규 발전소의 경우 의무이행비용 과다로 사업성은 더욱 낮아지므로 의무공급량의 비율을 기존의 12단계에서 17단계로 완화하는 방안을 제시하였다. 즉, 동두천복합발전소의 이행비용을 기준으로 최초 2%부터 매년 0.5%씩 점진적으로 10%까지 높였을 때 내부수익률은 6.23%로써 처음부터 10%의 비율로 공급할 경우 산출한 내부수익률 4.18%보다 약 49%의 사업성 향상 효과를 얻을 수 있어 제도개선이 민간발전사업 촉진에 기여할 것으로 판단된다.

  • The view can provide the user an appropriate portion of the database through data integration and filtering. Views can be materialized for query performance improvement, and in that cse, their consistency needs to be maintained against the updates of the underlying data. They can be either recomputed or incrementally refreshed by reflecting the relevant updates. Since XML could represent the structural information of the documents, for the XML materialized views, new techniques that differ from the previous ones for incrementally refreshing the relational views are required. In this paper, we propose a framework of XML materialized view management where the XML view derived from the underlying XML documents are materialized and incrementally refreshed against the updates of the underlying documents.

  • 2011년 1분기에는 예기치 못한 일본 대지진과 중동사태 등으로 세계경제는 큰 타격을 입었으며 그로 인해 신재생 에너지 개발과 에너지 효율적인 경제구조 확립, 부품 소재 산업의 경쟁력 강화와 공급처 다변화의 중요성이 대두되었다. 이에 따라 한국 경제는 그 전략을 점진적으로 세워야 한다는 지적이 나왔다. 그러므로 우리는 이 시점에서 세계경제를 분석하고 한국 경제의 중장기적인 계획을 세워 보아야 할 필요가 있다. 다음은 삼성경제연구소에서 발표한 "2011년 세계경제 및 한국경제 전망"의 주요 내용을 정리 요약한 것이다.
