In the present study, we designed a microfluidic platform for generating monodisperse droplets with diameters ranging from hundreds of nanometers to several micrometers. To generate fine droplets, T-junction and flow-focusing geometry are integrated into the microfluidic channel. Relatively large aqueous droplets are generated at the upstream T-junction and transported to the flow-focusing geometry, where each droplet is broken into smaller droplets of the desired size by the action of pressure and viscous stress. In this configuration, the flow rate of the inner fluid can be made very low, and the ratio of the inner- and outer-fluid flow rates in the flow-focusing region can be made very high. It has been shown that the present microfluidic device can generate droplets with diameters of approximately $1\;{\mu}m$ (standard deviation: <3%).
Aging effect of sands showed insignificant result in comparison with that of clay, so that it has not been studied so far. But, as penetration resistance increase has been observed with the lapse of time after deposition and disturbance, aging effect of sands has been actively investigated by field tests, and recently many researchers are performing not oかy field tests but also laboratory tests on sands, so aging effects of sands have been also examined by laboratory tests. In this study, to observe the aging effect of undrained static shear behavior for Nak-Dong River sand, undrained static triaxial tests were performed with changing relative density$(D_r)$, consolidation stress ratio$(K_c)$, and consolidation time. These tests showed that modulus within elastic section increased as consolidation time increased, and in addition, phase transformation point strength$(S_{PT})$ and critical stress ratio point strength $(S_{CSR})$ also increased. But pore water pressure ratio$(u/{p_c}')$ decreased as consolidation time increased, so with this various result, aging effect of static shear for sands can be observed as well.

It was known that the aging effect of sands is insignificant in comparison with clays, and hence the study on this effect had seldom been performed prior to the early 1980s. However, field tests for this effect have been actively carried out since it was investigated that penetration resistance of reformed sands increased with the lapse of time. Recently, the aging effect of sands has also been examined in laboratory testings. In this study, undrained static triaxial tests were performed to evaluate the effect on the Nak-dong River sands, with different .elative densities $(D_r)$, consolidation stress ratios $(K_c)$, and consolidation times. As a result of the tests, it was proved that the undrained cyclic shear strength $(R_f)$ increased with the aged time on the sands. The in situ range of Rf on the sands, which is applicable to the magnitude of earthquake in the Nak-dong River area, was proposed by using the test results.
The flame length in coaxial diffusion flame configurations was investigated when the kerosene fuel flow rate, temperature of the oxidizer stream, and inert gas concentrations in the oxidizer stream were varied. The diffusion flame was photographed using a Schlieren camera under each of the experimental conditions and the obtained images were then digitized to measure the flame length. The measured flame lengths were proportional to the kerosene fuel flow rate and increased with increasing temperature of the oxidizer stream. In addition, increases in the inert gas concentration in the oxidizer stream resulted in stretching of the flame. In particular, the flame was further elongated in the oxidizer steam diluted with helium gas. Inert substitutions in the oxidizer stream that can adjust the viscous drag are believed to be one of the important mechanisms that affect the length of the coaxial diffusion flames.
Holdup characteristics of bubble, wake and continuous liquid phases were investigated in bubble columns with viscous liquid media. Effects of column diameter(0.051, 0.076, 0.102 and 0.152 m ID), gas velocity($U_G$=0.02~0.16 m/s) and liquid viscosity(${\mu}_L$=0.001~0.050 $Pa{\cdot}s$) of continuous liquid media on the holdups of bubble, wake and continuous liquid phases were discussed. The three phase such as bubble, wake and continuous liquid phases were classified successfully by adapting the dual electrical resistivity probe method. Compressed filtered air and water or aqueous solutions of CMC(Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) were used as a gas and a liquid phase, respectively. To detect the wake as well as bubble phases in the bubble column continuously, a data acquisition system(DT 2805 Lab Card) with personal computer was used. The analog signals obtained from the probe circuit were processed to produce the digital data, from which the wake phase was detected behind the multi-bubbles as well as single bubbles rising in the bubble columns. The holdup of bubble and wake phases decreased but that of continuous liquid media increased, with an increase in the column diameter or liquid viscosity. However, the holdup of bubble and wake phases increased but that of continuous media decreased with an increase in the gas velocity. The holdup ratio of wake to wake to bubble phase decreased with an increase in the column diameter or gas velocity, however, increased with an increase in the viscosity of con-tinuous liquid media. The holdups of bubble, wake and continuous liquid media could be correlated in terms of operating variables within this experimental conditions as: ${\varepsilon}_B=0.043D^{-0.18}U_G^{0.56}{\mu}_L^{-0.13}$, ${\varepsilon}_W=0.003D^{-0.85}U_G^{0.46}{\mu}_L^{-0.10}$, ${\varepsilon}_C=1.179D^{0.09}U_G^{-0.13}{\mu}_L^{0.04}$.

The aim of this study was to develop a method for measuring the slumping resistance of resin composites and to relate it to the rheological characteristics. Five commercial hybrid composites (Z100. Z250. DenFil, Tetric Ceram. ClearFil) and a nanofill composite (Z350) were used to make disc-shaped specimens of 2 mm thickness. An aluminum mold with square shaped cutting surface was pressed onto the composite discs to make standardized imprints. The imprints were light-cured either immediately (non-slumped) or after waiting for 3 minutes at $25^{\circ}C$ (slumped). White stone replicas were made and then scanned for topography using a laser 3-D profilometer. Slumping resistance index (SRI) was defined as the ratio of the groove depth of the slumped specimen to that of the non-slumped specimen. The pre-cure viscoelasticity of each composite was evaluated by an oscillatory shear test and normal stress was measured by a squeeze test using a rheometer. Flow test was also performed using a flow tester. Correlation analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between the viscoelastic properties and the SRI. SRI varied between the six materials (Z100 < DenFil < Z250 < ClearFil < Tetric Ceram < Z350). The SRI was strongly correlated with the viscous (loss) shear modulus G' but not with the loss tangent. Also. slumping resistance was more closely related to the resistance to shear flow than to the normal stress. Slumping tendency could be quantified using the imprint method and SRI. The index may be applicable to evaluate the clinical handling characteristics of composites.

Polymeric gel electrolytes based on polyacrylronitile blended with poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoro-propylene)(P(VdF-co-HFP), which were reinforced with glass fiber cloth(GFC) to increase the mechanical strength, were prepared for the practical use in secondary battery. Test cell consisting of $LiCoO_2$ as a cathode and mesophase pich-based ca.bon fiber (MCF) as an anode material showed a capacity of 110 mAh/g based on the cathode weight at 0.2C rate at room temperature. Over $80\%$ of initial capacity was retained after 400cycles, indicating that GFC is suitable for a reinforcing material to increase the mechanical strength of gel based electrolytes.
Ohmic heating is a food processing operation in which heat is internally generated within foods by the passage of alternating electric current. The process enables highly viscous paste foods such as Kochujang, and fermented soybean paste to be heated very fast. In order to develope the novel pasteurization process of paste foods, static Ohmic heating system was built, and heating characteristic during Ohmic heating under various conditions were studied. Electric conductivities of Kochujang and fermented soybean paste at room temperature were 1.865 S/m and 2.510 S/m, respectively and increased linearly with increasing temperature. Specific heating rate was highly dependent on the frequency. The highest heating rate was achieved at 5 KHz for Kochujang and 20 KHz for fermented soybean paste. Uniform heating throughout the sample was achieved during Ohmic heating with low frequency electrical currents, however above 5 KHz frequency, surface temperature was several degrees higher than the bulk.
