Broad-Band Design of Ferrite Absorbers in Cross-Shaped Projection Type (십자돌기형 페라이트 전파흡수체의 광대역 설계)

  • The remarkable progress of electronics and radio communications technology has made our life abundant. On the other hand, the countermeasure of EMC becomes more important socially according to the increased use of electromagnetic waves. It had been required that the absorbing ability of an electromagnetic wave absorber is more than 20 dB, the bandwidth of which is required through 30 MHz to 1,000 MHz for satisfying the international standard about an anechoic chamber for EMI/EMS measurement. From November of 1998, however, the CISPR11 has accepted the extended frequency band from 30 MHz to 18 GHz in the bandwidth of EMI measurement. In this paper, we proposed the cross-shaped type and tapered cross-shaped type absorbers satisfying the above requirments and carried out broadband design using the equivalent material constants method. Futheremore, the results have been compared with FEM, and FDTD.

  • According to the increase of occupation density of microwave frequency band on use microwave environments have been congested extensively. For shielding unnecessary electromagnetic wave of preventing the electromagnetic wave reflection a good conductor a low resistive material or a lossy material is mainly used. As a method to measure the absorbing characteristics of microwave absorber the fundamental microwave measuring method can be used. There is however a big problem in measuring errors since the wavelength of microwave is very short especially as in the case as microwave absorber for RADAR. Therefore this research aimed to a converting adaptor of 20mm${\Phi}$ coaxial tube from a Type-N connector to 20mm${\Phi}$ coaxial tube and to use it for designing microwave absorber and evaluating absorbing characteristics. Furthermore the measurements of absorbing characteristics and material constants have performed and reviewed which were carried out by using the coaxial tube in the short type and by using rectangular waveguide respectively As a result the validity of the measured values have been confirmed.

  • In this study, the ferrite/rubber composite microwave absorbers mixed Ni-Zn ferrite and $Ni_2Y$ ferroxplana were prepared in order to control matching condion. The variation of the material constants($\dot{\varepsilon}$, $\dot{\mu}$) and microwave absorbing characteristics were investigated with various ferrite mixing ratio. The material constants of ferrite/rubber composite microwave absorber could be controlled by variation ferrite mixing radio. The matching frequency and thickness could be controlled with various ferrite mixing ratio.

Microwave Absorbing Properties of Silver-coated Ni-Zn Ferrite Spheres Prepared by Electroless Plating (무전해 도금법에 의해 제조된 은 피복 Ni-Zn Ferrite Sphere의 전파흡수특성)

  • The present investigation provides an electromagnetic radiation absorptive composition which comprises silver-coated ferrite microspheres dispersed in silicon rubber matrix for the aim of thin microwave absorber in GHz frequencies. Ni-Zn ferrite spheres with $50{\mu}m$ size in average were prepared by spray-drying and sintering at $1130^{\circ}C$. Conductive silver layer was plated on ferrite spheres by electroless plating. Conductive Ni-Zn ferrite sphere with uniform silver layer were obtained in the concentration of 10 g/L $AgNO_3$ per 20 g ferrite spheres. For this powder, electrical resistance is reduced as low as $10^{-2}\~10^{-3}\;\Omega$. The most sensitive material parameters with silver plating is real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity. The conductive Ni-Zn ferrite spheres have large values of dielectric constant. Due to this high dielectric constant of microspheres, matching thickness is reduced to as low as 2 mm at the frequency of 7 GHz, which is much thinner than conventional ferrite absorbers.

  • In this study, the magnetic(static and high-frequency) and microwave absorbing properties have been investigated in Ru-Co substituted M-hexaferrites($BaFe_{12-2x}Ru_xCo_xO_{19}$). The powders and sintered specimens were prepared by conventional ceramic processing technique. With the calcined powders, the composite specimens were prepared using the silicone rubber as a matrix material. The substitution ratio of Ru-Co to obtain in-plane magnetic anisotropy, thus having the minimum coercivity, is much smaller (about x=0.3) than the previously reported Ti-Co substituted specimen. Owing to this low substitution, the specimen has a large value of saturation magnetization($M_s$=65 emu/g). Ferromagnetic resonance behavior and microwave absorbing frequency band is strongly influnced by the coercvity which can be controlled by Ru-Co substitution ratio. It is found that the M-hexaferrites with planar magnetic anisotropy by doping Ru-Co in both sintered and composite form have superior microwave absorbing properties in GHz frequency range.

  • A wide band design method of an electromagnetic wave absorber using exponentially tapered ferrite which has very wide band frequency characteristics is proposed and discussed. The wide band electromagnetic wave absorber can be designed by the proposed equivalent material constants method for the regions varying spatially in the shape of ferrite. Furthemore the wide band ferrite electromagnetic wave absorbers with taper which have not only excellent reflectivity frequency characteristics but also the band width of 30MHz to 2150 or 2450MHz under the tolerance limits of -20dB reflectivity were designed.

  • A wide band design method of an double layerred electromagnetic wave absorber sintered ferrite which has a flat and an anti-grid shape layers is proposed and discussed. The wide band electomagnetic wave absorber can be designed by the equivalent material constants method for the each layer, As a result the wide band ferrite electonmagnetic wave absorber with the band width of 30MHz to 3670, 3680 or 3690MHz were designed under the tolerance limits of -20dB reflectivity.

  • The goal of this research is to get a measuring system for absorption characteristics over the frequency band with 30MHz to 1, 000MHz concerning the ferrite electromagnetic wave absorbers, for example, grid-type and sintered flat type, etc. It is, however, very difficult to measure the absorption characteristics as in low frequency as in 30 MHz. In this research, therefore, we propose a standing wave method using parallel striplines, fabricate the measuring system, and measure the characteristic of ferrite microwave absorbers using the proposed mea-suring system.
