<도서관문화> 4월호 특집란에서는 지난 몇 년간 도서관의 디지털화 과정에서 전자책 도서관 구축이 꾸준히 확산되고 있는 현 상황과 관련하여, '전자책'의 생산자, '전자책도서관'의 운영자와 이용자 등 각각의 입장을 통하여 '전자책' '전자책도서관'의 현황과 향후 과제를 알아보는 지면을 마련하였다. 현장 사서들에게 유용한 자료가 될 수 있기를 바라며, 편집실의 자문에 도움을 준 '북토피아'(www.booktopia.com)에 감사드린다.

As information technology has developed, the function of a library has been expanding gradually. The traditional library has changed into the electronic library so that users can directly access the library from remote sites and get electronic information without visiting the library. The purpose of this study is to build a model on the basis of the elements that are identified from the existing electronic libraries, and then to survey the current state of electronization in Korean university libraries. The electronic library model consists of four elements : OPAC, commercial online databases, CD-ROM databases, electronic books and journals, access to OPACs of other libraries, and access to other information resources through Internet.

도쿄공업대학전자도서관(TDL:Titech Digital Library)은 1999년 4월에 서비스를 시작했다 TDL은 이공학 분야의 다양한 정보자원과 이용자를 명쾌하게 연결시키는 게이트웨이 기능의 실현을 목적으로 한 전자도서관 시스템이다. 본고에서는 우선 도쿄공업대학부속도서관에서 TDL의 도입 이전에 시도해 온 여러 가지 전자적 정보 서비스에 대해서 되돌아보고, 이어서 TDL 설계의 구상(Concept), 그 구상을 실현하기위한 시스템의 기본기능에 대하여 실제 서비스 전개 상황을 삽입해 가면서 설명한 후, 마지막으로 금후의 과제와 전망에 대해서 언급한다. The purposes of this study are to investigate the perception and satisfaction of parents about e-books and to suggest ways to improve library e-book services. A user survey of one hundred twenty parents is carried for library use, computer use, and e-book user / non user behavior, library e-book service evaluation, selection of children's e-books and so on. Based upon the results, proactive library e-book service promotion such as public relations and e-book user education, easy access to e-book collections, recognition of e-book services at libraries, positions for e-book librarians and their professional continuing education, and self-evaluation of library e-book services.

최근 국가 정보화 프로젝트의 일부분으로 전자도서관시스템이 개발되고 있으며 각 대학과 기업은 나름대로 전자도서관 구축에 힘쓰고 있다. 이 글에서는 최근 전자도서관 구축에 이용되는 요소기술들을 살펴본다. 특히 다양한 전자도서관 기반 기술들 가운데 현재 도서관 분야에서 적용이 가능한 기술들을 중심으로 언급할 것이다. 그리고 현재 국내에서 개발되어 운영되거나 판매되고 있는 제품들을 소개하고자 한다. 다만 여기에서는 제한된 여건상 모든 제품들을 소개하지 못하고 대표적인 제품들만을 소개하기로 한다.

전자책은 장서 및 예산 규모면에서 이미 공공도서관의 중요한 서비스 영역으로 자리잡았으나 도입 방식 및 서비스 측면에서 아직 개선이 필요한 많은 과제들을 안고 있다. 본 연구에서는 도서관에서 전자책이 차지하는 규모를 살펴보고 국내외 전자책 구입 방식을 파악하여 향후 개선 방안을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 연구 결과 국외 도서관의 경우 상용전자책 구입시 도서관에서 전자책을 직접 보유하지 않는 ASP 임대 방식을 채택하는 사례가 높고, 도서관의 사명을 견지하며 다양한 방법들을 통해 개선점을 찾아나가고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 국내 도서관의 경우 전자책을 영구적으로 소유하는 방식을 따르고 있고, 카피수, 무상 유지보수 기간 등 기본적인 조건들이 기준이나 체계없이 독립적으로 적용되고 있어 개선이 요구된다고 할 수 있다.

Digital library system is an area of multimedia data production system which can differentiate itself from the traditional libraries. While the major role of the traditional libraries is servicing the customers, digital library system is a total system which produces new-formatted knowledge from the existing and new information, and servicing the knowledge to the customers. Thus digital library system must incorporate open and standardized document formats such as SGML, and make the knowledge shareable among the other digital library systems. In order to do show the efficient implementation for the effective digital library system, a technical alternative will be introduced as performing the Digital Library Pilot project.

The pandemic, which came unannounced, has caused people to feel the limitations of physical books and spaces, and discussions on library digital capabilities and sustainable library services are spreading. The e-book service of public libraries is at the stage of expanding to the autonomous district level and seeking to revitalize the service. In this study, a user satisfaction survey was conducted on the Gangdong district Library in Seoul to identify the current status of public library e-book services and suggest improvement measures. Based on the analysis results, improvement measures were derived in three aspects: expanding e-book content, strengthening user support services, and improving the e-book system management system.
