  • This paper reports the microstructure and electrochemical properties of Si-Al-Fe ternary amorphous alloys prepared by rapid solidification as an anode for lithium secondary batteries. The microstructure was analyzed using XRD and HR-TEM with EDS mapping. In accordance with DSC analysis, annealing was performed to crystallize the active nano-Si in the amorphous alloy. Thus, nano-Si forms (~80 nm) embedded in the matrix alloy, such as $Fe_2Al_3Si_3$, $FeSi_2$, and $Fe_{0.42}Si_{2.67}$, were successfully synthesized. The electrode based on the Si-Al-Fe ternary alloy delivered an initial discharge capacity of approximately $700mAh^{g-1}$, and exhibited a high Coulombic efficiency of 99.0~99.6% from the $2^{nd}$ to $70^{th}$ cycles.

  • In modern times, X-ray imaging has become a necessary tool for early diagnosis, quality control, nondestructive testing, and security screening. X-ray imaging equipment generally comprises an X-ray generator and an image sensor. Most commercially available X-ray generators employ filament-thermionic electron-based X-ray tubes, thus demonstrating typical analog behavior, such as slow response and large stray X-rays. Furthermore, digital X-ray sources, which have been studied extensively using field electron emitters manufactured from nanometer-scale materials, provide fast and accurately controlled ultra-shot X-rays. This could usher in a new era of X-ray imaging in medical diagnosis and nondestructive inspections. Specifically, digital X-ray sources, with reduced X-ray dose, can significantly improve the temporal and spatial resolution of fluoroscopy and computed tomography. Recently, digital X-ray tube technologies based on carbon nanotubes, developed by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, have been transferred to several companies and commercialized for dental imaging for the first time.

  • A quantum light source is an essential element for quantum information technology, including quantum communication, quantum sensor, and quantum computer. Quantum light sources including photon number state, entangled state, and squeezed state can be divided into two types according to the generation mechanism, namely single emitter and non-linear based systems. The single emitter platform contains atom/ion trap, solid-state defect/color center, two-dimensional material, and semiconductor quantum dot, which can emit deterministic photons. The non-linear based platform contains spontaneous parametric down-conversion and spontaneous four-wave mixing, which can emit probabilistic photon pairs. For each platform, we give an overview of the recent research trends of the generation, manipulation, and integration of single photon and entangled photon sources. The characteristics of quantum light sources are investigated for each platform. In addition, we briefly introduce quantum sensing, quantum communication, and quantum computing applications based on quantum light sources. We discuss the challenges and prospects of quantum light sources for quantum information technology.

  • In this paper, trends on technology of metal and ceramic nanoparticle inks using eco-friendly process were reviewed. There are two types of eco-friendly processes, dry and wet. In case of dry process, gas evaporation process was being used to synthesize the ultrafine nanoparticles. Also, in case of wet process, low temperature process excluding harmful elements such as $Cl^-$ and ${NO_3}^-$ was being used to synthesize the ultrafine nanoparticles. Sizes of nanoparticles were less than 10 nm using the eco-friendly processes, and the nanoparticles were well dispersed into ink solvent. The ink was successfully applied to fabricate directly printed pattern.

  • In this paper, we propose a new automatic taxonomy generation algorithm for the audio genre classification. The proposed algorithm automatically generates hierarchical taxonomy based on the estimated classification accuracy at all possible nodes. The estimation of classification accuracy in the proposed algorithm is conducted by applying the training data to classifier using k-fold cross validation. Subsequent classification accuracy is then to be tested at every node which consists of two clusters by applying one-versus-one support vector machine. In order to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm, we extracted various features which represent characteristics such as timbre, rhythm, pitch and so on. Then, we investigated classification performance using the proposed algorithm and previous flat classifiers. The classification accuracy reaches to 89 percent with proposed scheme, which is 5 to 25 percent higher than the previous flat classification methods. Using low-dimensional feature vectors, in particular, it is 10 to 25 percent higher than previous algorithms for classification experiments.

  • Space radiation environments depend on satellite mission orbit, period, and date, and it can be predicted by simulation. Total Ionizing Dose(TID) can be predicted by Dose-depth Curve which only inform the dose level depending on the shielding thickness. So detail effective shielding analysis considering real structure is necessary to predict part level TID. For this purpose, program is developed to calculate shielding thickness distribution by structure modeling and ray trace from certain point in the structure. Finally TID at certain point in the 3-dimensional structure can be calculated by integration of shielding distribution result and dose-depth curve data. Using this program, TID is analyzed at part level certain point by modeling of equipment box structure in the satellite.

  • A concrete embedded antenna design is proposed for probing the durability of a building at an industrial scientific medical band of 902~908 MHz. The proposed antenna is designed with a stacked slot patch structure for lower impedance variation to a dielectric constant of concrete, as a dielectric constant difference is derived from the moisture content. The proposed structure has a wider bandwidth when a parasitic patch structure is used, which reduces antenna performance degradation resulting from the moisture content of concrete. The measured voltage standing wave ratio of the proposed structure is less than 2 and the beam width is approximately $80^{\circ}$, whereas the gain is greater than 7 dBi. The proposed antenna is fabricated with a rectangle-type concrete block, which is simulated and measured for return loss and antenna gain.

  • For the implementation of the crosstalk canceller, the filters with large length are needed, which is because that the length of the filters greatly depends on the length of the head-related impulse responses. In order to reduce the length of the crosstalk cancellation filters, many methods such as frequency warping, common acoustical pole and zero (CAPZ) modeling have been researched. In this paper, we propose a new method combining these two methods. To accomplish this, we design the filters using the CAPZ modeling on the warped domain, and then, we implement the filters using the poles and zeros de-warped to the linear domain. The proposed method provides improved channel separation performance through the frequency warping and significant reduction of the complexity through the CAPZ modeling. These are confirmed through various computer simulations.

  • In the binaural synthesis environments, wide varieties of the head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) that have measured with a various direction would be desirable to obtain the accurate and various spatial sound images. To reduce the size' of HRTFs, interpolation has been often employed, where the HRTF for any direction is obtained by a limited number of the representative HRTFs. In this paper, we study on the distortion measures for interpolation, which has an important role in interpolation. With lhe various objective distortion metrics, the differences between the interpolated and the measured HRTFs were computed. These were then compared and analyzed with the results from the listening tests. From the results, the objective distortion measures were selected, that reflected the perceptual differences in spatial sound image. This measure was employed in a practical interpolation technique. We applied the proposed method to four kinds of an HRTF set, measured from three human heads and one mannequin. As a result, the Mel-frequency cepstral distortion was shown to be a good predictor for the differences in spatial sound location, when three HRTF measured from human, and the time-domain signal to distortion ratio revealed good prediction results for the entire four HRTF sets.
