이 논문에서는 신축 후 약 2년이 경과한 전원주택에서 벽난로 가동 중에 벽난로로 인한 화재가 발생하여 전소된 사례에 대해 법원을 통해 소방서, 경찰서, 화재보험관련 조사기관, 주택을 시공한 건설회사와 벽난로를 시공한 벽난로제조업체로부터 제공받은 자료들을 분석하여 벽난로 옆 벽체의 목재기둥에 남아 있는 저온장기발화의 화재패턴을 근거로 벽난로 옆 벽체의 목재기둥에 벽난로 화실(火室)의 열이 전도되어 화재가 발생하였음을 입증하였다. 그리고 벽난로 옆의 목재기둥이 저온장기발화를 한 이유는 굴뚝에 환기를 위한 공기창을 설치하지 않았기 때문임을 화재시뮬레이션을 통해 입증하였다.

The idyllic housing is dreamed by citizens today. The government has promoted the rural activation and satisfied citizen's needs about idyllic housing through the advanced rural village development project. Jecheon city aims to develop idyllic housing area in Baegun. This study investigated the resident' consciousness and actual conditions of idyllic housing in Baegun by field study. The aim of this study is to suggest data of idyllic housing policy by analysis idyllic housing of actual condition and resident' consciousness of demands. The idyllic housing of resident is aged sixty five or more from Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Second, they want to be maintenance of life convenience facilities, improvement of traffic, necessity of medical institution. Third, it is necessity of variety program to solve conflicts between residents and immigrants and to make community of residents.

Contemporary Suburban House is a kind of 'Urban House in nature' that urban middle class peoples elect voluntarily to raise life quality and make their own identity. Therefore, 'The Relationship with Nature' is an essential item in the design of Suburban House. But in the site plan of Suburban House, 'The Nature' as outdoor space is only the rest of the indoor space. The outdoor space is hold in common visually but not actually. 'The Nature' is not a labour ground as the case in rural society but a background of village. The plan of Suburban House is based on the urban apartment plan. So in plan, 'The Nature' is also an object for contemplation as the case in urban house. The outline of the plan as a border line between indoor space and outdoor space is controlled uniformally and 'The Nature' is linked only visually in the direction the resident wants to see.

This is on-going project planned from June to August, 2003 for the development of sub-urban housing of 108 buildings on 30,000 pyung lot located in Dochuk-myun, Kwangju-si, Kyunggi-do. The Site is consist of 10 different building sizes ranging from 45pyung to 65pyung on 180 to 220pyung lot. Buyers can customize their types and functions based on given sizes. Most sub-urban housing until now was based on typical planning and had no regard for its characteristics of diverse location. To solve these problems, I designed each types according to its locational characteristics and gave each lot flexible shape to have identities. To take advantage of its undulation, I put playground and sports facilities like swimming pool and tennis court at the approach. Central square to the center and park and observatory to the top

'지금 살고 있는 내 집에서 그냥 노후를 보낼까? 아니면 한적한 전원주택으로 옮겨 볼까? 편리한 시설을 갖춘 시니어타운에 들어가는 것도 좋을 것 같은데${\cdots}$'. 은퇴하면 어디서 살지 고민하는 중장년층이 많다. 특히 활동 반경이 축소되고 환경에 대한 적응능력이 떨어지는 노년기엔 사는 곳에 따라 삶의 질이 매우 달라질 수 있다. 건강하고 행복한 노후를 보내기 위해서는 주거 계획을 잘 세우고 주변 환경을 잘 활용하는 것이 필요하다.

여든이 넘어도 현역보다 더 정열적으로 저술 활동을 하고 있다. 경기도 용인의 한적한 전원주택 단지에 터를 잡고 저서 40권을 채우기 위해 분주하다. 과학저술가이자 저널리스트 현원복(81)씨가 그다. 지금까지 38권의 과학교양서, 한국 과학자 인물백과 등을 펴냈고, 지금도 노벨상 관련 책을 쓰기 위해 자료를 모으고 있는 중이다. 한국의 1세대 과학지가이자 과학저술가인 그를 요인의 자택에서 만났다.
