Implementation of a Simulation Tool for Monitoring Runtime Thermal Behavior (실시간 온도 감시를 위한 시뮬레이션 도구의 구현)

  • There are excessively hot units of a microprocessor in today's nano-scale process technology, which are called hotspots. Hotspots' heat dissipation is not perfectly conquered by mechanical cooling techniques such as heatsink, heat spreader, and fans; Hence, an architecture-level temperature simulation of microprocessors is evident experiment so that designers can make reliable chips in high temperature environments. However, conventional thermal simulators cannot be used in temperature evaluation of real machine, since they are too slow, or too coarse-grained to estimate overall system models. This paper proposes methodology of monitoring accurate runtime temperature with Hotspot[4], and introduces its implementation. With this tool, it is available to track runtime thermal behavior of a microprocessor at architecture-level. Therefore, Dynamic Thermal Management such as Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling technique can be verified in the real system.

  • High power pulse generating technology is to accumulate the energy for relatively long and then to create a strong force by emitting the energy very fast. High power pulse generating technology has recently been using in various fields like environments, industry, research, military and so on. Numerous studies about high power pulse generators have already been performed and commercialized in various conditions. However, in aspect of their size and weight, it is hard to carry the generators which currently have been developed. For these reasons, din nations like America or Russia, the researches have been performed for Ferroelectric Generators(FEG), which have relatively simple structure and are economical. To realize the ferroelectric generator, in this study, we selected the PZTs which have different physical properties respectively, and then shocked them using explosives. The PZT samples with volumes of $0.31{\sim}0.94cm^3$ were depolarized by shocked and produced the waveform that have peak voltages of 4.28 ~ 15kV. The lowest relative permittivity sample generated much higher peak voltage. And sudden voltage drops which seem to be caused by dielectric breakdown were observed in some experiments using low young's modulus samples. Also, increase in thickness led to increase in peak voltage, but the ratio of the voltage rise did not reach the ration of the thickness increase.

  • Since the average speed calculated with encoder pulses inevitably has time delay, the control performance as well as the system stability is deteriorated. especially at the low speed region. Additionally, the distorted inverter output voltage due to the dead time effects and the forward voltage drops of the VSI (Voltage Source Inverter) causes torque ripples and their effects are more severe at the low speed operation of an induction motor. In this paper, an accurate speed estimation method using Kalman Filter Algorithm is presented to improve the performance of an induction motor speed control with a low precision encoder at low speed legion. The dead time effects and the forward voltage drops of the VSI are feedforwardly compensated to produce an exact inverter output voltage.

  • The catalytic effect of waterworks sludge on NOx removal in $BaTiO_3$pellets and sludge pellets combined packed-bed plasma reactor with plate-plate electrode geometry is measured for the various conditions. NOx removal rate is about 90[%] at $BaTiO_3$-sludge combined reactor used fresh sludge. $NO_2$ and $O_3$ as byproducts are significantly generated in only $BaTiO_3$ packed-bed plasma reactor, however, in $BaTiO_3$-sludge combined packed-bed reactor, $NO_2$ and $O_3$ are completely removed while $CO_2$ as by-products are observed from FTIR spectra. $NO_2$ and $O_3$ seem to react with metallic molecules, metal oxide, and organic compounds that are generally chlorophyll included in sludge. NOx removal rate increases with $O_2$ concentration increasing. Removal rates $NO_2$ and $O_3$ are independent of operating time and repetition measurement times.

  • In this paper we implement main functions of electronic measuring devices, which are essential to design electric/electronic virtual laboratories on the Web. The implemented virtual electronic measuring devices such as virtual analog multimeter(VAM), virtual function generator(VFG), virtual oscilloscope(VOSC) enable the learners to perform the virtual experiments on the Web by simple mouse clicks. In order to show their validity virtual experiments for understanding how to use them are designed. The virtual experiments for measuring resistance(OHM), AC/DC Voltage(ACV/DCV) and DC Current(DCA) by the VAM are illustrated. In addition, the learners can change the frequency of the signal generated from the VFG and measure by the VOSC several types of the signals generated from the VFG such as triangular, pulse, sinusoidal waveforms. The VOSC can measure voltage and current through two channels of it and provide the learners with additional functions such as zooming, trigger, cursor, summing of waveforms. Since the virtual electronic measuring devices have been implemented as forms of Java classes, various types of applications are available according to the structures of virtual laboratories.

A study on the application of dichroic mirror for the improvement of luminance and luminous efficacy in an AC Plasma Display Panel (AC-PDP의 휘도와 효율 향상을 위한 Dichroic Mirror의 응용에 관한 연구)

  • A new application of dirchroic mirror for the improvement of luminance and luminous efficacy in an AC-Plasma Display Panel (PDP) is suggested. Only about half of the Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) generated in the reflective PDP cell is used for the excitation of the phosphor. We are suggesting an idea of adopting a dichroic mirror which can reflect the VUV toward the phosphor which otherwise is absorbed by the front panel. The optical constants of the thin films of dirhroic mirror were determined from the photometric measurements through an iteration process of matching calculated and measured values of the reflectance and transmittance in the VUV wavelength region. From these results, we could design such a filter whose high reflection zone is centered at 147nm by a computer simulation accurately. The 147nm VUV is radiated from Xenon 3Pl state which is dominantly used to activate the phosphor in the PDP cell. The dichroic mirror was made with an electronbeam evaporator and its reflectance was measured by a reflectometer. We confirmed the usefulness of the dichroic mirror for the improvement of efficiency with experiments done by test panels. The panel with mirror shows improved luminance and luminous efficacy by 20∼30%.

Effect of External Resistance on Electrical Properties of Two-Chamber type Microbial Fuel Cells (이형반응기 미생물연료전지의 전기적 특성에 미치는 외부저항의 영향)

  • The Effects of external resistance on electrical properties such as current density, power density and coulombic efficiency were investigated in two-chamber type MFCs using a ferricyanide as reducing agent. A stable electricity was produced when a constant time elapsed after innoculation of mixed cultures into the anode compartment; voltages from 0.13 to 0.16 V was measured at $50{\Omega}$ of external resistance. When the external resistance was increased, the current density decreased and the power density rapidly increased and then slowly decreased. Big variation of electrical properties was observed in high-current density region due to the concentration loss related with substrate consumption in repeated experiments changing the external resistance. The maximum power density ($175.8mW/m^2$) and coulombic efficiency (46.1%) were obtained at $100{\Omega}$ of the external resistance which is nearest with the internal resistance ($134{\Omega}$) of MFC system.

A Study on the Noise Reduction Method for Data Transmission of VLBI Data Processing System (VLBI 자료처리 시스템의 데이터 전송에서 잡음방지에 관한 연구)

  • KJJVC(Korea-Japan Joint VLBI Correlator) was installed at the KJCC(Korea-Japan Correlation Center) and has been operated by KASI(Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute) from 2009. KJNC is able to correlate the VLBI observed data through KVN(Korean VLBI Network), VERA(VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry), and JVN(Japanese VLBI Network) and its joint network array. And it is used exclusively as computer in order to process the observed data for the scientific purpose KJJVC used the VSI(VLBI Standard Interface) as the VLBI international standard at the data input-output specification between each component. Especially, for correlating the observed data, the data is transmitted with 1024Mbps speed between Mark5B high-speed playback and RVDB(Raw VLBI Data Buffer). The EMI(Electromagnetic lnterference), which is occurred by data transmission with high-speed, cause the data loss and the loss occurrence is frequently often for long transmission cable. Finally it will be caused the data recognition error by decreasing the voltage level of digital data signal. In this paper, in order to minimize the data loss by measuring the EMI noise level in transmission of the VSI specification, the 3 methods such as 1) RC filtering method, 2) lmpedance matching using Microstrip line, and 3) Signal buffering method using Differential line driver, were proposed. To verify the effectiveness of each proposed method, the performance evaluation was conducted by implementing and simulations for each method. Each proposed method was effectively confirmed as the high-speed data transmission of the VSI specification.

  • 수중방전은 다양한 라디칼을 직접 물 속에서 발생시키기 때문에 수처리 공정에 다양한 응용이 가능하다. 특히, 최근에 선박평형수 등의 살균이 국제적인 이슈가 되고 있고, 2017년까지는 모든 선박에 살균을 위한 수처리 설비가 의무화된다. 본 연구에서는 염분이 있는 수체에서의 방전공정을 연구하고 이를 수처리공정에 적용할 수 있는 방법에 대해 연구하였다. 해수의 경우 전도도가 53mS로 자유로운 전하의 이동이 가능하기 때문에 일반적인 민물방전의 전원과 전극 등으로는 방전을 할 수 없다. 이에 세라믹과 금속의 이중구조로 되어 있는 모세관전극을 개발하여 전도성이 있는 수체에서의 방전을 이루었다. 전원장치로는 60 Hz, 380 V를 1차측에 인가하여 2차측에서 약 3 kV, 10 kW의 파워가 발생하는 12위상차 교류전원장치를 개발하여 사용하였다. 모세관 내부에 전압이 인가되면 전류가 발생하여 joule heating에 의하여 모세관 내부에 기포가 형성된다. 이 때, 전류의 단락이 이루어지면서 고전압쪽에 전하가 축적되며 기포내부의 E-field가 상승한다. 이후 기포 내에서 방전이 개시되며 각종 라디칼을 생성한다. 방전에 의해 생성되는 산화제로는 오존, OH라디칼, 과산화수소 등이 있으며, 해수에서는 Cl-의 결합에 의하여 Cl2 가스가 발생한다. 약 30,000 J/L의 체적에너지에 대하여 생성되는 총염소의 농도는 2.5 mg/L이다. 수중방전의 적용대상으로 선박평형수, 멤브레인과의 결합, 용존기포부상법을 선정하여 적용가능성을 연구하였다. 먼저 선박평형수 살균처리를 위해 해수의 처리유량을 20 lpm으로 유지하고 대장균, 바실러스, 조류(테트라셀미스) 등을 투입하여 전극 12개가 삽입된 12위상차 플라즈마 반응기를 통과시켰더니, 약 30,000 J/L의 체적에너지에 대하여 1일 후의 살균력이 각각 99.99, 99.99, 99.9%의 살균력을 나타내었다. 이는 국제해사기구에서 권장하는 살균수준인 99.9%를 초과하는 수치이다. 플라즈마를 이용한 해수살균공정의 안정적 운전을 위해 후단에 UF멤브레인을 추가하여 잔류생존 미생물을 제거할 수 있다. 이를 위해 플라즈마가 후단의 멤브레인 운전에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 카올린과 탄산칼슘을 오염원으로 각각 투입하여 멤브레인으로 처리를 하였을 때, 방전 직후 멤브레인에 걸리는 막간압력차가 약 30% 감소하였는데, 이는 막에 형성된 파울링이 방전에 의해 제거된 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 수중방전은 다양한 산화제를 생성함과 동시에 미세기포를 발생시키는데 이는 수중유기물의 부상분리에 적용될 수 있다. 방전모세관전극의 내부직경을 1 mm로 유지하고, 60 Hz, 교류전원으로 방전한 결과 평균입경 44 um의 기포를 발생시켰고, 이는 일반적으로 용존공기부상법에 사용되는 기포의 크기와 일치한다.

Analysis and Measurement of the Magnetic Fields Cause by Operation of Electromotive Installations (전동력설비의 운전에 의해 발생되는 자계의 측정과 해석)

  • The paper describes the variation of magnetic fields caused by the operation of induction motors. The measuring system consists of the self-integrating magnetic field sensor, amplifier, and active integrator. From the calibration experiments, the frequency bandwidth of the magnetic field measuring system ranges from 20[Hz] to 300[kHz] and sensitivity is 0.234(mV/$\mu\textrm{T}$]. The magnetic fields generated under steady state and starting operations of duction motor are recorded by the proposed measuring system, and the fast Fourier transformation(FFT) of the measured data is performed to analyze the harmonic components. A single pulsed magnetic field is strongly caused by direct starting the induction motor, and its peak value is greater than 5 times as compared with the steady state value. The long transient duration and high intensity originates from the large inductance and dynamic characteristic of the induction motor, During the steady state operation of induction motor, subharmonics of magnetic field components, which depend on the pole number of induction motor, are observed. The lower order power-line harmonics can be inferred from the voltage flicker and current ripple which are derived from the torque fluctuation of induction motor. In the case of the induction motor drived by inverter, the harmonics of magnetic field are much more than those caused by direct starting method and are found generally to increase with decreasing the driving frequency.
