  • This study would verify the validity of two transmission technology, 'Clear QAM' and '8VSB'. 'Clear QAM' and '8VSB', the transmisson technology, have been suggested as the concrete alternatives in the situation that half of subscriber of multi channel tv service have been still out of benefit from digital convert. In this study, we have shown that the introduction of 'Clear QAM' and '8VSB' should ease economical burdens and information minority group without extra set-top box. But there is another concern that it should negatively affect on the contents industry by a devaluation of the multi channel tv service or by an infringement of copyright. In these reasons, it is still difficult to solve the related concern, though the government have to set up the politic goal for the related industry as well digital convert. This study suggested that Korea Communication Commission consider above-mentioned technology temporarily, and reconsider 'Clear QAM' around the completion of the digital convert project.

  • Many massively multiplayer online games(MMOG) use client-server architectures that have enormous server-side bandwidth requirements. In this paper, we propose a region-based hybrid game architecture that combines the advantages of client-server and peer-to-peer architectures, so that only critical events changing game state are processed by the server. In this hybrid architecture, the central server divides the game into regions and assigns a player as a regional server to distribute important updates for that region. Thus, the central server sends state updates to the players through the regional servers. All players in the same region directly exchange updates without affecting game state. This division of labor greatly reduces server bandwidth significantly and enables it to serve larger number of concurrent players. Our experiments show that the region-based hybrid architecture with three-level hierarchy scales better than the client-server architecture, saving considerable bandwidth at the central server while requiring enough bandwidth of players acting as regional servers.

  • Recently, it is studied actively that DVB-S2 for mobility standard(DVB-S2M) is combined with DVB-H, DVB-T and conventional DVB-S2 standard for continuous satellite broadcasting and internet service. Especially, overcoming deep fading by tunnel is main subject. For overcoming deep fading, DVB-S2M proposed cross layer system is consist of upper layer and physical layer. Thus, this paper proposed optimal upper layer coding system fixing the physical layer coding under the simulation results by coding methods, train speed, data rate, interleaver size and IP packet size.

  • This paper proposes low latency handover procedure for seamless connectivity and QoS support between wired (e.g. Ethernet) and wireless (e.g. WLAN, WiBro(802.16-compatible), CDMA) networks by the mobile-assisted and server-initiated handover strategy. It is assumed that the server decides the best target network considering network status and user preferences. In this procedure, a mobile terminal associates with the wireless link decided at the server in advance and receives CoA as well. When handover occurs without the prediction in wired networks, the server performs fast binding update using physical handover trigger through the MIH (media independent handover) function. As a result, a mobile terminal does not need to perform L2 and L3 handover during handover so that this procedure decreases handover latency and loss.

  • Streaming video service over wireless and mobile communication networks has received significant interests from both academia and industry recently. Specifically, mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) is capable of providing high data rate and flexible Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms, supporting mobile streaming very attractive. However, we need to note that streaming videos can be partially deteriorated in their macroblocks and/or slices owing to errors on OFDMA subcarriers, as we consider that compressed video sequence is generally sensitive to the error-prone channel status of the wireless and mobile network. In this paper, we introduce an OFDMA subcarrier-adaptive mobile streaming server based on cross-layer design. This streaming server system is substantially efficient to reduce the deterioration of streaming video transferred on the subcarriers of low power strength without any modifications of the existing schedulers, packet ordering/reassembly, and subcarrier allocation strategies in the base station.

  • The efficient node energy utilization in wireless sensor networks has been studied because sensor nodes operate with limited power based on battery. Since a large number of sensor nodes are densely deployed and collect data by cooperation in wireless sensor network, keeping more sensor nodes alive as possible is important to extend the lifetime of the sensor network. Energy efficiency is an important factor of researches that efficient routing algorithm is needed in wireless sensor network. In this research, I consider some methods to utilize more efficiently the limited power resource of wireless sensor networks. The proposed algorithm is the sink first divides the network into several areas with hop counts and data transmission based on cluster ID. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been examined and evaluated with NS-2 simulator in terms of lifetime, amount of data and overhead.

  • As underwater environment monitoring system's interest has increased, the research is proceeding about underwater acoustic sensor network. Underwater sensor network can be applicable to many fields, such as underwater environment monitoring, underwater resource exploration, oceanic data collection, military purposes, etc. It is essential to define the PHY-MAC protocol for revitalization of the underwater acoustic sensor network which is available utilization in a variety of fields. However, underwater acoustic sensor network has to implement by consideration of underwater environmental characteristics, such as limited bandwidth, multi-path, fading, long propagation delay caused by low acoustic speed. In this paper, we define frequency of adjusted PHY protocol, network topology, MAC protocol, PHY-MAC interface, data frame format by consideration of underwater environmental characteristics. We also present system configuration of our implementation and evaluate performance based on our implementation with test in real underwater field.

  • Sensor network applications need synchronized time extremely such as object tracking, consistent state updates, duplicate detection, and temporal order delivery. This paper describes reliable time synchronization protocol (RTSP) for wireless sensor networks. In the proposed method, synchronization error is decreased by creating hierarchical tree with lower depth and reliability is improved by maintaining and updating information of candidate parent nodes. The RTSP reduces recovery time and communication overheads comparing to TPSN when there are topology changes owing to moving of nodes, running out of energy and physical crashes. Simulation results show that RTSP has about 20% better performance than TPSN in synchronization accuracy. And the number of message in the RTSP is $20%{\sim}60%$ lower than that in the TPSN when nodes are failed in the network. In case of different transmission range of nodes, the communication overhead in the RTSP is reduced up to 40% than that in the TPSN at the maximum.

  • A novel c-DSDV routing protocol is proposed in clustered mobile ad hoc networks. Clusterheads that manage members in their own cluster construct a higher layer backbone to which the DSDV concept is applied. Each clusterhead maintains its own global routing table by exchanging Update Request (UREQ) messages with its neighboring clusterheads. A number of entries in the table is as small as a number of clusterheads unlike a number of nodes in DSDV Since a UREQ message travels from one clusterhead to all its neighboring clusterheads that are at most 3 hops away, the topology convergence range by each UREQ message is at least 9 times as wide as that of DSDV and CGSR, greatly improving accuracy of routing information. However, overhead in c-DSDV is similar to that of DSDV because only clusterheads initiate UREQ messages. Delivery ratio increases by about 32$\sim$50%.
